Do you iron all your kids clothes?

Had a 'heated' discussion with DM because she doesn't like the fact that I dont iron my DC2's clothes.

I used to iron DC1's as I had plenty of time on my hands but now with another child, a dog and a partner I just don't see it as an important job anymore.

Their clothes look fine, most things are tumbled and then hung straight up so they don't even look like they need an iron, never have I looked at my kids and thought oh god you can't tell I haven't ironed that and never has anybody beside DM ever mentioned it to me either.

I only iron stuff that needs out. Wouldn't let them go out creased and scruffy but if something doesn't need ironing I won't.

@cupsofcoffee

I find the MN stock response of "I iron nothing" completely bizarre. I don't know anyone IRL who doesn't iron

How do you know? Do you ask everyone just to make sure?

Sadly, yes. I iron more or less everything. I need a hobby.

Thehop · 20/05/2021 19:17

I iron all their stuff, including pants tights and socks but I enjoy it.

My friend irons nothing and her kids always look lovely. YANBU at all to do things your own way.

LawnFever · 20/05/2021 19:18

I don’t even iron all my clothes, waste of time Grin

Kottbullar · 20/05/2021 19:22

I iron most things, it's just part of doing the laundry.

Not for a vast majority of people it isn't!

Not for me it isn't. I wash them, hang them up, sort them and put them away. Ironing doesn't often feature in there
NeedCoffeeToSurvive · 20/05/2021 19:24

I've never ironed my sons clothes, I don't even iron my own unless it's one of those materials that absolutely requires it to be wearable. Don't think we've used our iron since mid 2019 when we attended a funeral and my partner wore a shirt.

If she's that bothered by it tell her you'll drop off all the laundry at hers and she can do it.

hellywelly3 · 20/05/2021 19:24

I don’t iron anything

It really isn't Grin

Laundry is shoving it in the washer dryer, turning a dial and pressing start. Then when the machine beeps, everything gets put away.

Tittyfilarious · 20/05/2021 19:28

I iron most things, especially school uniform but that's because I like how it looks ironed compared to not, I'm not sure anyone else notices if I've ironed it or not though

Pinkylemons · 20/05/2021 19:28

I iron most things. Some stuff like joggers come out if the dryer fine, also underwear and pj’s but all their other clothes I iron.

Winkywonkydonkey · 20/05/2021 19:31

I iron Hama beads, tend to get the plastic melted all over the plate and then abandon it in the cupboard for another year.

I occasionally use my hair straighteners on DD's school collars

bumpdownthestairs · 20/05/2021 19:32

If you meant 'none' of your kids clothes then yes, that's me 🙋‍♀️

Morgan12 · 20/05/2021 19:33

Yes.

Clothes don't look nice when they aren't ironed. I iron everything.

Yes, of course, it's my very first question when I meet someone new personally or professionally. Hmm

I meant my friends and family.

SteveBuscemisRheumyEye · 20/05/2021 19:37

@drpet49 a) simmer down and b) 4 laundry loads a week would equal 2-3 hours of ironing. Maybe I wash my clothes more frequently than you do.

PetuniaPot · 20/05/2021 19:38

No

Archiduchesse · 20/05/2021 19:38

The only things ironed in this house are shirts.

Lol. Exactly!

I don't own an iron. Never have.

Do my friends iron? No idea. I don't even know if my siblings or their partners do! Not a hot conversation topic for me.

TwoZeroTwoZero · 20/05/2021 19:39

I don't iron anything apart from fabric when I'm seeing. It just gets pulled a bit when damp and then hung on the airer tidily. My mum never ironed anything either.

womaninatightspot · 20/05/2021 19:39

I iron some stuff mainly because my dryer died and it still feels damp when it comes in normally.

I miss not ironing...

elfcat · 20/05/2021 19:39

What's everyone's secret to getting no creases?
If I hang it on the line it's dried creased however much I shake them out.
If it's in the dryer it's creased even if it's just as it's finished.
I can't use fabric softener as DH has bad eczema which reacts to it.
I despise ironing but have no choice!

80sPadme · 20/05/2021 19:40

Iron? I think I used one of those once. Grin
