I went into the city this morning to pick up a few things and can confirm almost all the young girls I saw had skinnies on (black or grey though) and I only saw a handful of wide leg jeans.

SallyCinnabon · 22/05/2021 15:04

By young I mean 20s to 30s as well not just teenagers

LunaNorth · 22/05/2021 15:24

I had my hair cut today and all the trendy young things working in the salon were wearing skinnies.

sbhydrogen · 22/05/2021 15:24

I don't want to look like a 20 year old. I'm 32 and have two kids. Skinny jeans are so much more practical.

Littleoakhorn · 22/05/2021 16:19

I have skinny jeans for wearing on cold days tucked into my lovely warm waterproof boots. No one is taking them away from me! I also have slim/ straight leg jeans for wearing with trainers. If wide leg fashions descend to full length as opposed to ridiculous too short clown trousers, then I might buy some trousers but not wide leg jeans.

TheTurn0fTheScrew · 22/05/2021 16:28

I am sure I remember MN threads 15 years ago where everyone was pulling faces about skinnies, and insisting that you'd have to prise their bootcuts out of their cold, dead hands.

I have a couple of pairs of mom jeans, and they feel a bit fresher. I am not young, nor thin, nor fashionable, but I quite like a teeny update now and again. Cold ankles though Grin.

ImInStealthMode · 22/05/2021 16:37

Nobody is taking skinnies away from me. I couldn't give a toss what's 'on trend' and never have done.

I sometimes wonder if designers and fashion magazine creators ever get together and compete for the most ridiculous/hideous things they can get us to wear. 'Look at these chumps actually going outside in silk pyjamas because we told them it would be a thing. Idiots'

I wear things that I like, fit me and suit my shape. I like flares and wore them in the 90s but can't be arsed with damp ankles and shredded hems any more so if I do get a pair they'll be for occasional wear on dry days only.

I think sulking jeans look good on everyone as long as they fit well! Go for it Smile

xela21 · 22/05/2021 18:03

Everyone thats saying mom jeans and similar styles... how are you styling them? Surely there must be another way than just cropped tops..

I want to know this too and how do you wear trainers with them without looking the the band All Saints in the 90s 😂
Heartofglass12345 · 23/05/2021 00:47

Wtf are sulking jeans Grin I meant skinny jeans haha!
Although I could do with a pair of sulking jeans, to warn people not to approach when wearing

love the idea of Mom jeans but I’d just look like sack of spuds in them

The vast majority of people look like a sack of spuds in them IMO. The only people I've seen who look great in them are a size 6 or so and they'd look great in a sack anyway! My sister is a bit of a fashion victim/influencer obsessed type so she jumps on every trend and I don't have the heart to tell her that her mom jeans really make her look like a "mom"! They're so bloody unflattering. Skinnies forever here.

MsTSwift · 23/05/2021 07:36

Aren’t you bored though? It’s good to mix things up or you get stuck in a rut. Am enjoying this move away from the skinny/baggy top/boots look. Bored to tears with that remember wearing it in the reception playground and my eldest now 14! Jean shape affects what you wear on top too so it shakes you up abit .

I can recommend M&S balloon jeans. Both my teen girls were impressed 😁. Nice feeling fresh and slightly with it at 46

MumofPsuedoAdult · 23/05/2021 07:45

Yes because they suit my shape, flares make me look huge. Nothing to do with fashion.

Agree. I tried a pair of Mom jeans, why not, I said to myself? I used to wear them 30 years ago...... BIG mistake. If you have any kind of mum tum, even a small one, they emphasise it 100%..... so just no..... I am sticking to my tummy flattening, pull it in, skinnys, and leaving the Mom jeans to my teenage DD's.

DD is wearing vintage baggy T's, and sweatshirts, with converse. Again, not something I think I can pull off in my dotage Grin.
LimpLettice · 23/05/2021 13:18

I would look exactly like Andy Pandy in those balloon jeans. And they would need to be extremely MC Hammer to go round my diastasis and still balloon on the legs like that. They certainly wouldn't be cool.
