I still wear them because I live rurally and right now, with the ground so wet, you’re not going to be able to walk on muddy farm tracks and field margins in a boyfriend/ girlfriend / mom jean in an obligatory white trainer.

I’m slim with slender legs but with a high bum (I was in fashion before Kim K Grin ) so personally I feel skinny jeans look the best on me. Also, sorry I know it’s dated but if I go into our local city drinking on a weekend evening, I don’t think you can beat black skinny jeans (cropped) a good heel and glam top. I know it may seem dated and I guess in London it would be but not round here. It looks ‘chic’ and put together.

However, in summer months I agree that a lighter washed, looser style Jean looks better for daytime and skinny’s, especially if they’re dark look dated.

I have recently got some slightly looser, stone washed and mud wash skinnies and I turn them up at the ends and I think they look quite on trend. I do have a pair of fitted mom jeans from topshop and have been wearing them round the house and have to say I’m getting used to them (DH surprisingly likes them) I just need the courage to wear them out too Grin

This weekend I’m going to try and get a pair of girlfriend or straight leg jeans and see how I get on with them. I have to say though, the shops are FULL of skinnies still, I’ve actually found it harder to get a more loose style as they just don’t have the selection that skinnies have.

My black skinnies are here to stay though, I think if you’re live in the countryside then they always will be as mom jeans or whatever are never going to look groomed and put together tucked into wellies! Especially if they have all those awful rips in, it would look ridiculous walking around muddy fields in the winter with your knees hanging out!

They’re a classic now, aren’t they? Where I live the school gate mums are still all in skinnies. Surely the idea that women in their 40s should be following the fashion trends of teenagers is really bizarre, anyway.

People wearing skinny jeans now are the equivalent of “moms who insist on still wearing straight leg jeans” 20 years ago.

Which exemplifies perfectly how nonsensical fashion trends are Grin

BrightYellowDaffodil · 21/05/2021 10:51

I love mine, not least because they fit into my wellies without acres of material bagging everywhere.

The fact that this marks me out as not a millennial/Gen Z is an added bonus Grin

Cowparsleyheaven · 21/05/2021 10:51

Mid wash and you live in countryside, not you’re*

AppropriateAdult · 21/05/2021 10:53

Also, I was watching Finding Alice recently and Keeley Hawes was running around in mom jeans and trainers like her teenaged daughter and it all looked a bit try-hard...

Mom jeans on moms is frumpy unless you pair it with a crop top.

ILoveShula · 21/05/2021 11:03

skinny jeans for comparison.

I like the boots

NoMLMbots · 21/05/2021 11:05

Wear what you like @xela21 and what you feel good in. Don't worry about what others chose to wear.

As it happens I wear skinny jeans. I have great legs and they suit me. Whether they were in or not I'd wear them. Baggy jeans etc just don't work with my figure.

DinosaurDiana · 21/05/2021 11:06

Me ✋🏼

Really - why do you care so much? Are you one of those religious followers of fashion? How dull.

Don't like them then don't wear them.

WorraLiberty · 21/05/2021 11:08

I think they're here to stay, as they've become a staple.

A bit like leggings/jeggings. They don't go in or out of fashion, they're just 'there'.

JeanClaudeVanDammit · 21/05/2021 11:09

They’ll have to prise mine off me. I’ve tried the others and they all look shit.

EllaPaella · 21/05/2021 11:10

I still wear my skinny jeans. But I have also been wearing loads of other styles of jeans for several years. I've been wearing boyfriend jeans since at least 2013, Mom jeans for the last 3 years, cropped straight legs in summer as well.
The only style I don't really wear now is bootcut, not since 2008 or thereabouts.
I've been trying a few wide leg jeans recently but can't find any that suit me.

I was in River Island the other day and the only style of jeans they had on display were skinny jeans - about ten different variations of them so I think it's fair to say they are very much still around.

ExConstance · 21/05/2021 11:10

I shall have to keep some as they fit in my wellies, other styles don't.

Fluffycloudland77 · 21/05/2021 11:18

I’m petite, baggy stuff makes me look fat. I knew a woman who looked great in boyfriend jeans but she was 6” taller than me with long legs & a size 12. They fitted her perfectly.

stripeyflowers · 21/05/2021 11:31

I would be wearing them only I've put a bit of weight on so more comfortable in leggings. As soon as I've got back down to my normal weight I will most definitely wear them!

Frauhubert · 21/05/2021 11:43

I think skinny jeans are actually really comfortable. I bought a few pairs of the more fashionable styles, but they are really uncomfortable around my stomach. Everything seems to be high waist right now and digs right into my organs. I am a size 6 so not like i have belly fat. I miss wearing skinny jeans without feeling old and dated :(
I am also wondering what will women do in the winter - boots and knee boots. I am planning ti wear then with ‘smart leggins’, but maybe that’s not in fashion either ?

I’m short and I hate boyfriend jeans on me, high waisted straight legs look good on me actually, I think I read somewhere that they are great for short people as it gives the impression of longer legs!
polkadotpixie · 21/05/2021 13:36

YANBU! I only wear skinny jeans and have no intention of changing that, I look hideous in other styles so I don't care if I look like a 2007 emo kid 😂

OhGiveUp · 21/05/2021 14:14

Thanks @BigWoollyJumpers and @ILoveShula
So they've what we used to call carrot tops back in the 80s then 😂

ILoveShula · 21/05/2021 15:38

I remember wearing drainpipes. Grin
I tend to wear straight leg jeans but I felt a little frumpy in them a few years ago.

Any non-conventional details will date badly. I have kept my bootcuts and straight jeans and as they are mid-rise and were originally dark indigo I will wear them again.

ItsAllAboutTheParsley · 21/05/2021 16:20

Saddo bootcut wearer here. They suit me so I’ve worn them year in, year out. Think that’s what matters - wear the jeans shape that suits you? I have to get curvier shape as huge tum small waist, so shape balances me better otherwise look like a ball of wool with knitting needles stuck in.

Although DP the style king has just appeared in slightly bootcut jeans so must be in fashion for men at least! I could be having a ‘moment’.

So skinny jeans are the mom jeans of the future then...and we are ahead of fashion Grin
