To think we shouldn’t have another lockdown to protect vaccine refusers?

Everyone over 40 or in high-risk groups has now been offered a vaccine. The overwhelming majority, including me, have gratefully taken up the offer. A small minority have refused the vaccine, as is their right, of course.

Now we are seeing new ‘variants of concern’ and unvaccinated vulnerable people in some areas are now being hospitalised because they have been infected.

Some people are now calling for extended restrictions in these areas to prevent the new variant spreading. Why should responsible people who have been vaccinated be punished by yet more lockdown because idiots in their communities are too stupid or too selfish to get vaccinated?

Whilst you may question a difference in morals, for those who choose not to have it, which I don't.
There are plenty people who can't have it for medical reasons.
Shall we not have restrictions for them as well then, because the results will be the same whether transmitted by a refuser or medical exemption.

You can belittle the knowledge and experience of the scientists on this thread all you like. It doesn’t make you any more knowledgable. Mumsnet has a large audience and of course the experts in any discussed areas will chip in and correct blatant misinformation. You may think we are overrepresented but maybe you are naive to how far reaching this forum is and who is reading your opinions.

I am just pointing out that calling yourself a "scientist" (however vague term that might be anyway...) on a public forum doesn't make you one.

who is reading your opinions.
my opinion is that it's not such an "easy" decision for a pregnant woman to have (or not) the covid jab.
But it's interesting to see how dismissive some posters are about the subject...on a PARENTING forum, no less

I'm 41 and have not been vaccinated, neither has my 51 year old husband, 70 year old mum or stepdad and we are all FINE!!! none of us want "protecting" or worry about "new variants. Only my vaccinated friends and family members have had any trouble

Great ,this th thread was started three years ago though when people were only just started to be being vaccinated and things were still very up.and down
For some inexplicable reason its been ressurected .
Most of us don't worry about new variants now .

Some people are now calling for extended restrictions

People can "call" for what they like. Not going to happen.

This is true but the Covid Cultists are still around, still washing their shopping
and making a general nuisance of themselves.
