stopthebloodylights · 16/05/2021 13:09

A couple In Ireland have had quads...Irish child benefits is not means tested AND if you have twins you get 1.5 per child BUT if you have other multiples you get DOUBLE the amount so this couple are taking in 140 x 2 PER CHILD!! That's 1120 in child benefits per month!! 🤣🤣🤣

Christ could you imagine forking out for four of EVERYTHING?! That is insane.
Not sure what the problem is re CB - they're entitled to it, they're not breaking the law and what were the other options? Abort a couple of them to make life easier?
I'd hate to find out people had been discussing my private financial details online.

looptheloopinahulahoop · 16/05/2021 13:58

@stopthebloodylights

Oh god I'm not begrudging!! Wouldn't it be great if the U.K. did similar!!
I thought you could claim for multiple births in the UK.
LadyMacbethWasMisunderstood · 16/05/2021 14:00

This is going to be a massive drain on resources all over Ireland; what with women giving birth to quads so often.

ImprobablePuffin · 16/05/2021 14:01

@ArosGartref

There is no sum of money you could pay me to have 4 babies at the same time.
Preach 🙌
youwouldthink · 16/05/2021 14:01

All children are entitled to free healthcare here in Ireland till 6 years old also, so gp costs are covered

Woeismethischristmas · 16/05/2021 14:03

I had twins can only imagine the horror of quads. I was so sleep deprived I reckon they should be given medals annually in addition to the child benefit.

Tistheseason17 · 16/05/2021 14:03

OP - for someone who does not begrudge them you do come back with answers about their possible situation. They may not have a medical card etc. They may need this money.

Perhaps the AIBU should read - "... the UK does not offer the same appropriate level of benefits that Ireland offers" rather than being negative about some poor woman who has had 4 babies and how it is too much.

flashylamp · 16/05/2021 14:03

@stopthebloodylights

Utter madness meaning if Ireland can do it it's madness that the U.K. can't I should have finished the title I suppose

Sure that's what you meant. With the laughing emoji at the end of the post, just to confirm you were posting in favour of the UK

andivfmakes3 · 16/05/2021 14:04

I've got twins and the cost is eye watering 🤣 quads would have destroyed us financially

Yokey · 16/05/2021 14:05

It's rare. They didn't choose it and couldn't have foreseen it. Let them have their money. They can't hand anything down at all! They probably deserve it.

Limetr33 · 16/05/2021 14:06

@Tistheseason17

They also have to pay to see a doctor if in Rep of Ireland. This will not cover the costs at all.
Actually GP visits for all under 6s are free in Ireland and is due to be extended to under 12s on a phased basis
stopthebloodylights · 16/05/2021 14:07

@Tistheseason17 my medical card response was not in relation to them. I honestly do not begrudge them at all, I'm delighted that they are getting good support!

Yes perhaps my title should have said differently...I didn't really think as I was typing. Thank you

stopthebloodylights · 16/05/2021 14:07

@Yokey of course they deserve it.

bumblingbovine49 · 16/05/2021 14:09

Thanks a seems fine to me. imagine how much help they will.need just keeping them changed and fed as babies, let alone when they get to be toddlers!!

I imagine all of that money and more will go on paying for help and 4 X of everything , clothes, nappies, bottles/ milk (can't see many women breastfeeding quads!)

Moondust001 · 16/05/2021 14:09

"Ooops I misjudged the mood of MN on this one, hurry up and backtrack, I certainly didn't say what I said, didn't mean it like that, and in fact haven't a clue what I am talking about anyway."

Indeed!

OP, you've changed your tune somewhat I think...

I have no problem with it, I can't imagine the upfront costs involved with having more than one child at a time, especially 4! Even having 4 children separately wouldn't incur the same kind of costs because they can all have things handed down.

Yes if we do it for one, everyone will be having quads for the money ( oh wait....)Hmm

Grin you can practically see the skid marks
KinseyWinsey · 16/05/2021 14:12

Fancy that. A country that actually seeks to make sure its children are fed and clothed and well looked after. A country that cares for its people.

Now how many food banks opened in the U.K. last week?

How many footballers had to persuade the government to supply a few poxy sandwiches to children in need?

idontlikealdi · 16/05/2021 14:13

@looptheloopinahulahoop i've got twins and they are just classed as first and second children there is no differentiation.

Blossomtoes · 16/05/2021 14:14

@stopthebloodylights

In which case, why describe it as “utter madness”?
Tistheseason17 · 16/05/2021 14:14

OP - Smile
I would rather have less child benefit and our NHS than their position. My friend had to pay to have her babies and prescription charges (£15Euro max per month) let alone treatment beyond this.

ThisIsStartingToBoreMe · 16/05/2021 14:15

The Irish have always had generous child benefit payments. It's one of the reasons why 4 kids is considered a small family in Ireland.

stopthebloodylights · 16/05/2021 14:16

@Moondust001 I can see why you would think I'm back tracking...my title wasn't phrased right at all..I agree. And no amount of me insisting that I wasn't begrudging is obviously going to convince ppl. But I know my intentions and my feelings and it's certainly not what I think.

qualitygirl · 16/05/2021 14:17

@Tistheseason17 that's odd because all maternity care in Ireland is actually free!! HmmShe must have chosen to go private...and even then you wouldn't do that without insurance
