To think this utter madness- child benefit

A couple In Ireland have had quads...Irish child benefits is not means tested AND if you have twins you get 1.5 per child BUT if you have other multiples you get DOUBLE the amount so this couple are taking in 140 x 2 PER CHILD!! That's 1120 in child benefits per month!! 🤣🤣🤣

To those of thinking I'm begrudging them I AM NOT!! I'm amazed quite frankly that the Irish child benefits is so generous!! Fair play to them!

Pickledpenguin · 16/05/2021 13:33

Is it more that they get that amount or more cos we are not means tested for child benefit in Ireland that bothers you OP? Also 1120 in euro gets you a LOT less than if you got that in sterling so you cannot compare like with like in that regard either.

MintyMabel · 16/05/2021 13:33

Oh god I'm not begrudging!! Wouldn't it be great if the U.K. did similar!!

You called it utter madness.

stopthebloodylights · 16/05/2021 13:34

Utter madness meaning if Ireland can do it it's madness that the U.K. can't I should have finished the title I suppose

Stop backtracking. You described it as utter madness. It's too late to pretend you weren't being spiteful.
Notashandyta · 16/05/2021 13:34

They're gonna need it! Happy for them!

motogogo · 16/05/2021 13:36

It's quite generous but with quads they will need home help which doesn't come cheap. 4 children 1 every 3 years works out far cheaper than all at once because you can pass things on and can be in childcare before the next arrives.

stopthebloodylights · 16/05/2021 13:36

@KrisAkabusi why would I be spiteful??

NursieBernard · 16/05/2021 13:38

Sounds like a good system that actually acknowledges the extra costs from having multiples.

Thatisnotwhatisaid · 16/05/2021 13:39

I wouldn’t like to buy a quad pram or two double prams, not to mention 4 sets of nappies, wipes, clothes, perhaps formula, food as they get older, high chairs and all the other equipment babies require. Poor sods.

Melitza · 16/05/2021 13:40

I hope it helps make their lives easier.

The Irish state pension is much more generous too.
The rich people running the UK don't like giving money to us commoners!

jmh740 · 16/05/2021 13:40

It's it 210 a every 4 weeks per child so 840 a month?

stopthebloodylights · 16/05/2021 13:41

@Thatisnotwhatisaid yes and lidl Ireland are providing them with a years worth of nappies etc for free...isn't that amazing!! @NursieBernard isn't it a great system!!

OP posts:
Tistheseason17 · 16/05/2021 13:42

They also have to pay to see a doctor if in Rep of Ireland.
This will not cover the costs at all.

Yes. It’s a good system. RoI also has the right idea on Carers’ benefits.
partyatthepalace · 16/05/2021 13:44

I think they’ll need it just to buy in help and stay sane

partyatthepalace · 16/05/2021 13:46

And you have to remember the ROI health system isn’t great (even compared to the NHS) and costs you direct as well as via tax.

stopthebloodylights · 16/05/2021 13:46

@jmh740 280 per child per month =1120

@Tistheseason17 not all have to pay I thought I read on here that if you have a medical card then you don't pay and if you have health insurance then you can claim some of that payment back.

OP posts:
ArosGartref · 16/05/2021 13:47

There is no sum of money you could pay me to have 4 babies at the same time.

qualitygirl · 16/05/2021 13:50

@partyatthepalace last I checked Ireland was rated 13th in the world and U.K. was 30th.

The Irish system is free for those who need it just like in the U.K. we have a two tiered system...I wish ppl from the U.K. would understand that!!

Miasicarisatia · 16/05/2021 13:51

@Twickerhun

That sounds very reasonable to me.

The state needs families to invest in our kids welfare and wellbeing. Saves money in the long run of kids are given a good start in life

I agree and would add that as increasingly people are choosing not to have children governments will have to start incentivising people to have families

I imagine in the UK, quads are pretty rare. If a family qualify for Universal credit then there are special rules for multiples to ensure thy get adequate financial support. No specifically with child benefit but with other benefits.

Omg, 964.78 Pound sterling equivalent per month, so £11.5k a year versus £3,283.80 a year in UK!

Do you want our €70 GP visit charge too?
Glittertwins · 16/05/2021 13:56

But they'll need it. We got no extras for twins here - can't exactly pass down from one to the other either
