Unexpectedly disgusting food

Just been reading the unexpectedly amazing food thread, and thought I'd post about food that I thought would be nice but wasn't.

The slimming world beef stroganoff from Iceland- it looked lovely on the packet, and smelt quite nice while it was cooking- but it tasted awful, really watery with a weird aftertaste

Wensleydale with cranberry- again, it looked nice, but tasted like vomit

@newtb

Marrow bone jelly just like greasy snot. Tête de veau - I've heaved trying to eat it. Heart - of any sort
Why the bloody hell would you want to eat anything called marrow bone jelly in the first place?! And were you really that surprised it was gross?! Same with heart!!
redcandlelight · 09/05/2021 20:56

courgetti - what's the point?

Itsjustricemichael · 09/05/2021 20:56

Seaweed snacks are amazing and yummy and better than crisps. So there.

eatsleepread · 09/05/2021 20:57

Sainsbury's own brand mayonnaise.

SchrodingersImmigrant · 09/05/2021 20:57

@LyingWitchInTheWardrobe

I've just had a look at the Itsu seaweed that you're talking about. I've not tried it but I do like this Kirkland one, Costco sells it as do other online sites. I can easily eat a whole packet of it!

It's never going to replace Wotsits in my snack of choice but, it's a healthy alternative with a wallop of iron which is useful.

I get these and they are delicious!!!

My contribution
As someone said above.
Truffle. Especially truffle oil

Percy pigs-they look yummy They taste like washing up liquid and have the texture of sticky sponge Saying that I can’t bear haribo either
They used to be nice until they took the gelatine out of them.

Totally agree on the herseys, tastes like vomit but has a weird gritty, greasy but dry consistency - it's kind of what I imagine the 'mocklate' from friends to taste like!

TheTroubleWithShoes · 09/05/2021 20:59

Walnuts. I love almost all other nuts, but they're bitter and taste of paint.

Neonprint · 09/05/2021 21:00

Is the idea of pork or beef in your sweets not just fucking disgusting though?

gurglebelly · 09/05/2021 21:01

Anything with parsley sauce - it taste how a dirty rabbit hutch smells 🤢

AlfonsoTheTerrible · 09/05/2021 21:03

Pickled walnuts.
Tinned salmon.
Vegan cheese.

In my opinion pig fat isn't present in enough foods 🤤
redcandlelight · 09/05/2021 21:04

that caramel cheese in norway.
it smelled so nice but was awful

PearlHart · 09/05/2021 21:04

@Talkwhilstyouwalk

Sometimes an apple can look delicious but be flavourless and mushy....what I imagine a raw potato would taste like!

Also, I often find that French patisserie style cakes look amazing but are often very disappointing.

Oh and I can't stand bananas, the taste, the texture, the smell, the feel.....struggle to be in the same room as someone eating one!

Couldn't agree more re bananas - they are truly disgusting!
TheSoapyFrog · 09/05/2021 21:05

Tea and coffee smell lovely but taste disgusting. I also can't stand avocados.
We had goose at Christmas and I was surprised to discover i didn't like it when I really thought I would love it.

gurglebelly · 09/05/2021 21:07

@Sparklingbrook

Totally agree about the seaweed thins! Taste of old fish

I think you are being generous with that review. Grin maybe like licking the slime in a rock pool but drier.

I really love the wasabi ones 😱
MerryGoRoundBrain · 09/05/2021 21:08

Seaweed thins are delicious!!!! Feel free to send it all my way. I also love kimchi and kombucha.
I can’t stand Hershey’s though. Or Percy Pigs - soapy squishy shit.
Another thing I can’t cope with is pumpkin anything. Pumpkin pie, pumpkin soup. Just no!!!

ViperAtTheGatesOfDawn · 09/05/2021 21:08

Morrison's gluten free 'cornettoes' are rank.

M&S Thai takeaway in a box where everything tastes like slimy matter in zoflora sauce.

M&S fish cakes with mushy pea topping Envy < not envy

looptheloopinahulahoop · 09/05/2021 21:08

Jamie's special black lentils. Looked like poo. And once you had decided it looked like poo, well you can guess how I perceived that it tasted Envy

MsMeNz · 09/05/2021 21:10

@ShinySquirrel

Most fruity teas. They smell like orchards and taste of perfumed disappointment.
Oh this is the best line I've heard in ages 😆 I so agree!
CathyorClaire · 09/05/2021 21:10

Chestnut puree or jam. Regularly gifted to us by our French student guests. Regularly binned.

I resisted pickled walnuts for years. Have no idea why. They are literally the mutt's nuts.

BriocheForBreakfast · 09/05/2021 21:10

@hunneylove

Blueberries! They taste of absolutely nothing
My French friend assured me that the blueberries that she picks in the wild back in France taste so much better than supermarket ones.
LindaEllen · 09/05/2021 21:11

@Joinedjustforthispost

The new and improved turkey twizzlers! Even my dog would eat it 🤢
Agree! As a 90s kid I was SO excited. The remakes filled me with sadness.
SeigneurLapindeGrantham · 09/05/2021 21:11

Convent Garden soups taste of nothing to me and the ready meals in Iceland are completely bland.
