Is there something you want but just can’t bear to buy?

I’ve posted before about how I am a self confessed shopping addict. I’ve put myself on a semi ban, and I’m allowed to buy necessities for myself or replace makeup items that have ran out but I am not to buy things just because I want them. I have saved almost £1000 in a month, which is frightening! The big “f**k it” purchases (maybe £300) combined with impulsively buying makeup, a new top here and there, chocolate, extra luxuries in grocery shop REALLY mounted up. So last night (I had been drinking) I ALMOST fell into the trap and bought myself a very expensive pair of trainers. I didn’t give in and I still haven’t. The guilt of spoiling how well I’ve done and how much I’ve saved would stop me even enjoying them. I’ll just stick to admiring them from afar. Are there any items you lust after, and technically could afford, but just can’t justify buying?

Le Creuset large cast iron casserole, actually I might have bought one but can’t decide on the colour!

Horse.

I have also started re-directing the money I would spend on things I impulse buy to my savings account for holidays. So I saw a lovely pearl necklace (£75.00) and instead put that money into the holiday savings.

Since lockdown 1 I have now saved £3550.00 that way!!!! It is terrifying because this would have been frittered on other things.

(I am hoping for a lovely luxury holiday when possible. I have ruled out this year, but hopefully 2022. )

@Cottagepieandpeas, thanks! When I win the lottery I’ll buy one for both of us.

I don’t do the lottery either. 😋

I'm terrible at spending money on what I consider to be expensive non-essentials, my OH used to say There's plenty on the bank and we can't take it with us! My attitude I think comes from having very frugal parents, we never wanted for anything but there were few frills.
Last year, just before covid my OH died very suddenly and now I'm in the position of saying What do I do with it all now, it's not fun going places alone!

Dubarry boots.

I've actually saved up money for them but just can't bring myself to actually pay that much for a pair of boots. Seems like such a luxury.

They’re worth every penny!

I don't lust after stuff.
I could easily afford lots of things but buying overpriced rubbish or a fortune on cosmetics brings me no pleasure.
I earn twice as much as I need to live.

For those lusting after a KitchenAid, have a look at the Kenwoods. They are just as good and really pretty (mine is stripey) and will save you £££.

For the sodastream, it’s not just the money, it is Saving The Planet. So you should definitely get one.

Defo a Dyson hairdryer. Or a shark hoover.
Or to pay to haven't hair extensions back in... (Pointless as still not really going out anywhere)

I don't think twice about dropping money on nice meals out or for kids etc but then when it comes to myself I'm like.... Do I need a new 25quid jumper?

@bridgetreilly I agree with the kenwood kmix (mine is striped too! Think it's the firecracker).

Airwrap - if you have fine hair, it's not worth it! I sent mine back.

iPhone 12 in purple. I upgraded from my XR and the only visible difference is the selfie camera has portrait mode. Other than that, save the money and buy a purple case

An Apple Watch. I have a perfectly serviceable FitBit. Also a new iPhone, though mine is now over 6 years old, so I really will have to replace it soon.

I also second the Vitamix. Been considering one of those for years.

@LindaEllen

I've wanted some GHDs for years and years and have never been able to warrant treating myself when my £30 straighteners I've had since I was a teenager still work.

I don't think the newer ones are worth it as they're not built to last. I purchased mine for around £100 back in 2004 and they're still going strong. Really, really good investment for me.

Loads! And lots of the things are on this thread!!
I've saved lots during lockdown but I've splurged lots too on expensive jewlery (which I adore & it brings me pleasure & I do wear it a lot)
But i'd love a tire cedron candle or two
I need an implant & new crowns
I bake a lot & would get a lot of use from a kitchen aid mixer but keep resisting even though I'd love it

I really resent buying work clothes. £££ on a dress I'll wear to one party then keep in the wardrobe forever? No problem! But I begrudge every pound I have to fork over for boring work clothes.

I can highly recommend black. I wanted the white ones but DH is right, the black is wearing so well. We have four and they still look brand new.

I am not sure this counts because I know I am going to have to buy it on payday.

DS' school jumper, we bought them just before lockdown, hoping it would last him the year and he has shot up, think he wore it for about 2 weeks if that. I think even if he lost it, I might feel a bit better.

A Samsung fold. Technically I could afford it but couldn’t ever justify spending £1600 on a phone. Especially as I barely use mine! (Always use iPad for browsing etc). Don’t even work out of the house anymore so it would really be a waste,

I recently visited the apple store with the intention of upgrading my 6S to a newer phone as the battery was woeful. They told me to just replace the battery instead for £49 instead of spending £450+ on a new handset. Was good advice.

I fell into a spending habit last year. I now try to look just the first day of each month, and that’s it. Also trying to wear the clothes I have and throw out (charity shop) the okay clothes so I just wear my nicer clothes, and not just save them for best/going out.

Absolutely loads of stuff. I do buy the make up and skincare I want, usually Estée Lauder, but other than that I’m super stingy with myself.

It’s probably my upbringing. It’s not that I can’t afford it, money thankfully is not an issue, it’s just that I cannot bring myself to spend on unnecessary frivolities.
