Cashier came and moved me to another till

For context, I’m abroad, if it makes a difference.
This morning I was queuing up in the supermarket (biggish queues) for picnic things whilst Dp and toddler Dd waited in the car.
One of the cashiers/staff came to me and gently guided me over to another till where there were less people. I just stood there feeling humiliated. She obviously thought I was pregnant.
As she did a changeover with another woman on the till, I saw them looking over at me and the other woman looked at me and shook her head in surprise to the woman who moved me.
Then the one lady in the queue was looking back at me.
The whole thing was very humiliating and I felt like shit all day.
I was wearing a long oversized, striped shirt and denim shorts (quite hot here) I have big boobs and am desperately trying to lose weight (size 16, used to be 10) years of fertility treatments then pregnancy.
I didn’t tell Dp as felt so ashamed, now I feel disgusted with myself when I eat anything.
Cannot believe I’m so fat now that I’m being mistaken for being pregnant.

I really don’t see the connection between moving queues and being pregnant?

I feel your pain op. My daughter's friend saw my wedding photograph and exclaimed that I used to be beautiful! I laughed because it's true! But now I'm thinking of ways to lose weight and look younger!!

I almost said something earlier today when at the vaccination centre the lady checking in asked if it was my 2nd vaccine, I'm only 42!

I'm having my second vaccination next week and I'm 41. It's really bizarre to jump to the conclusion that she was insulting you by asking

I used to work (abroad) in a shop where local factory workers often didn't speak the languge. We physically guided them in queues because they didn't react when we were talking to them when they for example queued to a counter from a wrong side we went and guided them to the end of the queue. Some understood when we pointed, some didn't so we moved them the few steps.
None of them guys were pregnant.

@SchrodingersImmigrant I speak the language, nobody else was being directed, she walked specifically up to me to take me to the priority queue.

I almost said something earlier today when at the vaccination centre the lady checking in asked if it was my 2nd vaccine, I'm only 42! Angry I told myself it wasn't because I looked older but not sure why she said that otherwise.
Later on she asked of people were having their first, Its not nice (or flattering) but you just have to ignore and get on with your day 😁

Huh? My bf is healthy 40yo and got his second jab last week. Of course she could have asked if you are having your first or second. But I seriously wouldn't read anything into it.

I think judging by your (over)reaction you were probably looking anxious and stressed. They were doing you a favour moving you out of an obviously traumatic environment as quickly as possible. How long have you had social anxiety?

@Tempusfudgeit ??? I was stood in the queue with everyone else waiting to pay, feeling pretty happy and relaxed on a sunny day, about to go on a picnic!

I think they just distribute people in the queues evenly sometime or because of upcoming breaks. I wouldn’t bother but losing weight is not a bad idea anyway.I myself desperately need to do it.

I’m 40 and had my 2nd vaccine on Thursday. Everyone in the queue was asked whether it was first or second - it was part of the procedure.

I honestly think they were discussing it I was pregnant and the other cashier thought not. Then it was really awkward when the cashier who came to get me was passing my food through. The whole thing was odd and awkward.

The staff were discussing you and whispering about you whilst staring at you, and were discussing whether you were pregnant or not??? And then one of them slowly guided you (against your will) to another checkout???

I'm sorry what??? Confused

Fair enough, Shouting-, you were there, after all. But take heart - the other cashier thought the first one had fucked up, clearly. So you can’t look massively pregnant to everyone.

People make mistakes. Try not to worry.

I am confused by @swapsicles comment. When my DH and I went for our second covid vaccinations, they KNEW we were there for the second one. You would have been called up for it; they would know, so why would they ask?

Just in case if someone doesn't have a card I would assume. Machines make mistakes

@littlepattilou No, not against my will. I wasn’t sure what she was doing, then felt fairly humiliated as I stood behind one other woman in the priority queue, whilst the cashier who came to get me talked with the one on the till and they were both looking at me.

Honestly, I’m not a dramatic, paranoid person, this was very clear and made me feel shit. I’m working hard on losing weight but being thought of as looking pregnant is really hard.

Well ok the. I don't think anything will change your mind even if they didn't really think you were pregnant. As pp said. We weren't there

Well if you feel uncomfortable about your appearance and want to lose wait, just use this as motivation. Though as others have pointed out, there’s no confirmation that they thought you were pregnant so you could be upset over nothing

I don’t want to be dismissive of your feelings but this has happened so many times to be before but never when I was pregnant.

If you had less items, if it was particularly busy or if they were swapping shifts are all reasons they might open a separate till.

How many people were behind and in front of you?

What’s humiliating about looking pregnant?

For what it’s worth, I was congratulated on my pregnancy when I was just under 9stone

Was the other women on the priority till pregnant?

My sister was once mistaken for being pregnant whilst working in a bar by a rather presumptuous male. She was about 21 & honestly looked like a model. Not remotely pregnant but he kept pointing at her stomach & asking. Bizarre! Sometimes people just cock up because, well, human error! Perhaps this lady wasn’t very perceptive. It was probably no reflection on how you look at all - I’m sure you look absolutely gorgeous. Perhaps she thought you had a beautiful glow like a pregnant woman? It could honestly have been absolutely anything at all - please try to not worry yourself too much over this. I’ve actually called a woman a man before and vice versa (‘kids, move out of the way of the man on his bike’ only to realise said man was a woman). Sometimes people just make bloody silly mistakes but it’s them, not you!
