Particularly as porn has become so much more mainstream in the past few years, I'd have thought that people would be concerned about premature sexualisation of children. Also I'm surprised that so many women are fine with it given that the humiliation and degradation of women is the central theme of pornography. You only have to look at the titles to realise that.

"smallwhitecat - I'm sure I read something regarding a male escort and how good his business is, he based his reasons on the fact that many women are not settling down right off and are in better jobs, and can afford to splash the cash!"

It's funny how people always have these apocryphal stories about male escorts or porn or whatever with the underlying theme that women do it too (so we can't complain about what men do to women).

Here's an interview with a real male escort (a heterosexual) who reckons only 5% of his clients are women, and most of those are encouraged into it by their husbands -

It's the Financial Times so there's nothing scary on the end of the link.

turqoise - I agree with you, there is alot more tolerance for the sexy people. however I think its just that they want to talk to younger people rather than cherie blair.

However, saying that it is true the more you say the more you get.

policywonk · 14/11/2007 23:03

Gosh, mobile, you make such a cogent argument.

I have reported your stupid little post.

normabutty · 14/11/2007 23:04

at mobile, bit harsh

onebatmother · 14/11/2007 23:05

mobile for crying out loud - has she touched a nerve?
Just wondering re the malice..?

Elizabetth · 14/11/2007 23:05

You don't use male escorts do you Doodledootoo? That's what I was talking about.

Mobileislostinthefreezer, you're not helping the pro-porn side by flinging out insults. It makes y'all look like your arguments are weak.

well put E!

ELF1981 · 14/11/2007 23:07

My arguements are not weak E.

Not my fault that I haven't got lots of evidence saved on my computer to back up my arguement.

LuckyUnderpants · 14/11/2007 23:07

agree with mobile.

Elizabetth · 14/11/2007 23:07

"but that does not give you an automatic right to tell people what they like (which you used to) is wrong"

Actually you're wrong. Everybody has a right to their opinions, including me. I'd prefer it if you didn't try to make an exception in my case.

OverMyDeadBody · 14/11/2007 23:07

sex is a basic human urge. a human need. we all experience basic animal needs and urges to have and enjoy sex.

so it is not surprising in the least that entire industries are born of that instinct.

instead of fighting against the whole idea - why not try to shape it in the way you feel would be most fair and useful to everyone?

like the women who make porn for women. like the lesbian porn makers (real lesbians, not dopey fake lesbian stuff for blokes)

sex is not going away. it is perfectly freakin natural and healthy. and porn is an expression of sexuality... as wel as a complicated and wide ranging genre/area. what is the point of saying its all bad? isnt that just prudish?

i cant be dealing with exploitation. or misogyny. or abuse. but i am very of prudishness. personally, i think prudishness has as much a part to play in abuse and exploitation as people who listen to their natural human urges and are more 'sexual' than others. isnt the demonisation of sexuality as much to blame for exploitation as misogyny?

and what is the opposite word for misogyny? man hating? because i despise that as much as i despise the hatred of any group of people based on one characteristic in common.

minorityrules · 14/11/2007 23:08

women have always used their bodies to attract men, not because of porn. Fashion through ages has emphasised the waist, bust and bum (bustle anyone?)

women want to be in relationships and have a basic desire to have children (majority)

To get into a relationship they need to attract the man (all species do it) So they flaunt what is seen to be desirable, once they get the man, they stop trying to be desirable

Women today have taken it further, I think feminism is to blame, not porn

Feminism is a good thing and women are equal to men and should be treated equal, unfortunalty women have taken this to the extreme and are sexually agressive, flaunting all and being sexually promiscuous, but then giving it all up when settled

onebatmother · 14/11/2007 23:09

overmy
arent' those nearly naked and very chilly birds out to attract men whose standards have been set by the pornos they've seen?

Elizabetth · 14/11/2007 23:09

"Not my fault that I haven't got lots of evidence saved on my computer to back up my arguement."

At least I base my arguments and opinions on facts.
