To think nothing terrible will happen if fat me wears swimming attire on holiday?

Assuming we're ever allowed on holiday...

I used to be a size 10 but this has crept up to a size 14-16. I do a lot of exercise but eat too much. None of my clothes fit and I feel quite self conscious.

We're off to the beach over the half term and summer holidays and I've been stressing over what sort of cover-up to wear. It then occurred to me to wonder what would actually be so terrible if I just wore a normal swimming costume or tankini (I've never been a bikini person). Will the fish jump out of the sea in fright? Will ladies faint? Will small children run away in terror? Will everyone turn and laugh at my wobbly bits? Probably not.

AIBU in thinking it will be fine, or is there some terrible consequence I haven't thought of yet?

It isn’t healthy to be obese which I’m sure you know. You could easily lose half a stone by the half term holidays and more by summer. I say this as someone in the same predicament. There is nothing like actual weight loss for boosting your confidence x

We all know that being obese isn't healthy but who on earth is suggesting that the OP is??

Also, losing half a stone by the half term holidays may be easy for you but definitely NOT for the majority of people, you're expecting someone to lose 7lbs in under 4 weeks, for some people this may be doable with crazy crash diets but the weight comes straight back on as soon as you stop the diet and that isn't sustainable.

On top of which, not everyone can lose weight easily at all... try having a physical disability that restricts your mobility and a seriously under active thyroid (or as in my case, I've not got one at all), losing weight is almost IMPOSSIBLE without medical intervention.

So, as I said at the top of my post, we know it's not healthy to be obese but it's also not healthy to be the obnoxious person who goes around fat shaming people!

Some of us may be carrying more weight than we'd like to be but we can't all just nip off to the gym to get rid of it and we don't need to have it pointed out at every turn.

The best weight to get rid of is the fat shamer!

If you’d RTFT you’d see that it was the OP who said she was obese and if you’d read my post fully, you would see I’m in the same predicament I.e. obese and needing to lose weight for summer. I was trying to encourage the OP by saying she could ‘easily’ lose 7 lbs by half term. That probably wasn’t the right word but just under 2lbs a week is def doable and not a crash diet. OP didn’t mention any limiting health conditions. Oh and I don’t find it that easy or I wouldn’t be obese. I just know that it is already affecting my health and it can affect health in many ways that doesn’t show up until the damage is done.i have had physical and mental health conditions that affect my weight and I have a lot of compassion for people who have chronic long term conditions. I didn’t put it in my first post as so many people had already said , but of course, whatever size you are, you should accept and love yourself and not give a shit what other people think.

Do what makes you happy, I've put on a stone and half over the last year as so many people have, think about your mental health and please don't stree/worry, so many of us are in the same boat, enjoy the beach xx

No one will bat an eyelid!! How are you a 14 at 85kg? I’m taller and lighter than you and an 18. Like genuinely, which stores?
