To never wear a mask again!

Now fully vaccinated.

There’s no point to me wearing a mask anymore and I’m seeing more and more people who may or may not be fully vaccinated not wearing them so why should I bother with the discomfort of wearing one?

WIBU to totally abandon them with glee?!

@Whatisthisfuckery

You’ve gotta laugh at the covid lovers.

I’m worried about having the jab. You must have the jab to protect yourself and others.

I’ve had the jab so I think I’ll stop wearing my mask. No, you can’t do that, you can still pass the virus on.

Whether the so-called vaccine prevents transition of covid very much depends on whether people are being good little sheepies or not.

I thought everyone had stopped calling other people sheep around the time the third wave hit and people finally got it into their skulls that protecting ourselves and others against a potentially fatal virus is a good thing? Haven't seen that phrase used in months.

RampantIvy · 28/04/2021 22:52

Can I suggest that people who naively think that just being vaccinated means that covid is a thing of the past have a look at the Swiss Cheese Model which explains in an easy to understand way why vaccines alone aren't the answer.

Basically we need the vaccine and masks and widespread testing and effective contact tracing and socail distancing and meeting people outdoors or in well ventilated areas and practise good hygiene to prevent the spread of covid.

@Boom45

I'm looking forward to ditching the masks but while ever public health experts are asking us to wear them I'll keep mine on - it was never really for my safety anyway.
I can't bloody wait to ceremoniously burn mine but will wait until told we don't have wear them. It's selfish not to. Bloody pensioners are the worst for rule breaking now they've had both jabs. They don't give a shit and think I'm alright Jack!
firstimemamma · 28/04/2021 22:54

How will you do anything op? Today alone I went into NatWest, Aldi and a few other places. They all insist you wear a mask, as do most places I believe. If you just say you've had your vaccinations and don't fancy it, they ask you to leave. I hate masks and just think the whole thing is ridiculous but I wear mine because I need to do stuff! I know there's online shopping etc but would you honestly be happier avoiding so many places constantly? Also with places like the GP you can't really avoid masks.

ittakes2 · 28/04/2021 22:54

Wow - you do realise that the mask wearing is not to protect you but to protect others? It was never to protect you - you would need a medical grade mask to protect yourself - it was always about everyone protecting each other. And now you are vaccinated you don't care about others? Nice.

Ethelfromnumber73 · 28/04/2021 22:56

@tttigress

I get the impression some people want this mask/lockdown situation to go on forever.
Yeah, that'll be the ones refusing to wear masks Hmm
Honeyroar · 28/04/2021 22:56

We get a lot of 70+ yearvold ladies coming into our cafe muttering about how they don’t understand why they need a mask or to track and trace anymore because they’ve had both their jabs. I point out that our 20 year old servers haven’t even had their first jab yet.

MiaMc · 28/04/2021 22:58

Well this just epitomises the selfish attitude we’ve seen from so many people throughout the crisis.

You think YOU’RE ok now you’ve had the vaccine so it doesn’t matter anymore?
You thought you were just wearing a mask and distancing just to protect yourself.
It was and needs to continue to be a collective effort to keep on top of it.

www.theguardian.com/uk-news/2021/apr/28/single-dose-of-covid-vaccine-can-nearly-halve-transmission-of-virus-study-finds
Vaccines reduce the transmission they don't stop it.

nocoolnamesleft · 28/04/2021 22:58

I had the second jab in January. I'm still wearing a mask. I am lower risk to others, I am not no risk to them. Other people don't know I'm fully jabbed, so don't know I'm lower risk to them. Why worry them. Masks are a minor irritation, no more than that.

KizzyMoo · 28/04/2021 22:59

I've not had any jabs yet and work with the public so would hope everyone that can wear a mask is wearing one.

Northernsoullover · 28/04/2021 22:59

Did 'sheep' come up again? Yawn, it is getting quite boring now. The thing that name callers don't understand is that you are equally a sheep. Following a different flock.

SoupDragon · 28/04/2021 22:59

I haven’t seen anything recorded that a fully vaccinated person transmitted the virus. Has anyone else?

You clearly don't read the news then.

Susie477 · 28/04/2021 23:00

I live my life on the basic principle of ‘don’t be a prat’.

Wearing a mask costs me nothing and may benefit others. That being the case, I will continue to accept the trivial inconvenience of wearing one in enclosed public spaces until the consensus of expert scientific & medical opinion is that they are no longer necessary to help prevent transmission of covid.

Hankunamatata · 28/04/2021 23:00

www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/vaccines/effectiveness/why-measure-effectiveness/breakthrough-cases.html

Assuming CDC is good enough source for you. Basically no vaccine is 100% some people will still catch covid even with both vaccine and some will get ill and die, some will be asymptomatic spreaders.

Embracingthechaos · 28/04/2021 23:01

From what I've heard from friends, family, and news, it sounds like the UK is getting pretty close to knocking this whole thing on the head. Your vaccination programme has been brilliant.

Grooveisintheheartnahnahnahnah · 28/04/2021 23:02

@WhenISnappedAndFarted 🤣Your username..is that, that old thread? Still makes me laugh.

Op, I get it, it’s all really quite confusing, I do believe some people would like to wear masks forever, I can’t wait until we’re back to seeing one another’s faces and smiles

Embracingthechaos · 28/04/2021 23:03

Posted to soon!

I meant to finish by saying you should hang on just a bit longer and keep being cautious. You could be very close to the end of all of this.

Skysblue · 28/04/2021 23:04

Oh wow, you’re vaccinated! Great! Except:

  • You can still catch the virus and die - like that resident in the Kentucky nursing home who died last month, she was fully vaccinated with Pfizer. It’s around 90% effective, not 100%. (Unless you had the Astra Zeneca, in which case it’s more like 60% effective, depending which research you listen to).
  • You can still pass on the virus. It works like this. You breathe it in... Then you breathe it out. Then someone else breathes it in. Now, the fact that you’re vaccinated does mean that there’s a chance you’ll produce antibodies and kill the virus before you breathe it out onto someone else. But you might not. Or your vaccine might have worn off. Or the virus may have mutated again to evade that vaccine. But sure bet someone else’s life on that, why not, I’d hate your face to be a bit itchy.

Masks annoy everyone, the rest of us don’t have magic faces that love masks. Shop around. Find one that fits you better or is more breathable. But don’t think this is over for you because it’s not.

@Grooveisintheheartnahnahnahnah What exactly is confusing?
The vaccine doesn't mean that you are totally safe or immune - there are still people who have not been vaccinated - so continue to wear a mask so you don't pass on a virus that could kill someone!

Christ.

TinaYouFatLard · 28/04/2021 23:06

God I fucking hate the masks.

At what point will the lockdown fanatics permit us to dispose of them? Covid is not going away ever.

RaspberryCoulis · 28/04/2021 23:06

@Boom45

I don't believe the masks make one blind bit of difference unless you are face to face with someone for an extended period. In supermarkets, shops, walking from the door to your table in a cafe - completely pointless.

I couldn't give two hoots what the experts want, or what the government wants, or that the anxious want us all wearing masks forever.

My reasons for continuing to comply with the bastarding masks are two-fold:

  1. I don't want to be harassed by the Covid militia in Tesco's when I'm doing my shopping
  1. There's a fairly hefty fine.

The very SECOND though that you don't have to wear the things any longer I'm having a bonfire.

themalamander · 28/04/2021 23:08

@Susie477

There's a book series (which The Expanse TV show is based on) which has 2 very minor characters (only in it for a few pages) and they are part of a religion which boils down to, "humans can be better, so let's do that."
Made up religion in a sci-fi book and it only gets one line but it's my favourite religion!

Gobbeldegook · 28/04/2021 23:09
