AIBU?

To never wear a mask again!

Now fully vaccinated.

There’s no point to me wearing a mask anymore and I’m seeing more and more people who may or may not be fully vaccinated not wearing them so why should I bother with the discomfort of wearing one?

WIBU to totally abandon them with glee?!

I don’t know anyone who likes wearing a mask but they are one of the contributors to helping bring down the numbers of cases.
The countries who have traditionally worn masks have had the lowest cases so it’s helped.

@Againstmachine

That's just silly.

Not really when you get idiotic posts on here who can't understand why someone doesn't want to wear a mask. Masks are shit.

There's a difference between exemption and "don't want to".

I doubt very much that there are many people who actually enjoy wearing them.

The countries that ‘traditionally’ wear masks are also quite slim and have much fewer Western lifestyle diseases. I don’t think you can link it so definitively

Their ‘tradition’ has never stopped seasonal flu and colds to any discernible level btw.

I'd love to know who these people are who want us to wear masks forever. I have to wear one at work and I have a physical job. I cannot wait to ditch it but I'm prepared to wear it until it has been deemed appropriate not to do so.

I work with lots of people who have family in India. For the last two weeks, seeing them on their phones at lunch, in tears, hearing of relatives in their 20s and 30s getting covid.. makes me feel there are still significant phases that the whole world is going to have to endure. Its not over totally for anyone. The mask thing is not just for the protection of the wearer, and as a few cases of the Indian variant, and the South African variant are now spreading here, you should be a little cautious.

We’ve had to be so cautious this past 14 months, CEV husband so we basically all had to shield. Our sixth form son worked from home and when I dared venture out for a walk on a horrible day with no one else around, did it masked up.

Now my husband is fully vaccinated, I partially am, it’s an absolute delight for our son and I to meet up with our daughter, her husband and our grandchild in the fresh air without masks.

However, I shall be restocking even when our youngest is fully vaccinated because forgetting Covid (wouldn’t that be nice 🙄) the condition that makes him CEV can be set off by any infection and could threaten his life each time. Come autumn, I’ll be donning the mask again when I shop or go anywhere in a crowd: on a purely selfish note, this has taught us a very valuable lesson, he’s been the healthiest this year that he’s been for decades. Usually, almost continuous antibiotics, this year, 2 courses. The sanitiser will be a permanent fixture, too.

Imagine most people can’t wait to ditch the flipping things, though.

For the poster who said 70% were vaccinated. Here are the latest stats.

The total number of deaths now stands at 127,543, and the total number of cases at 4,423,796.

The UK has now administered 34,667,904 first vaccine doses and 15,630,007 second doses, bringing the total to 50,297,911.

This is the equivalent of 29.7% of the adult population, or people aged 18 and over, based on the latest population estimates from the Office for National Statistics.

But....why?! And if you wearing a mask is nothing covid related, then the fact that you are vaccinated makes no difference. 🤷🏼‍♀️

Your workplace is mandating it. That’s not the same.

Perhaps you could supply some links? Or sign up for a maths refresher course? 34 million is well over half the adult population - not 29.7%. The population over 18 is approximately 50 million so those 34 million vaccinations represent 68%.

Nothing wrong with my math qualifications. The figures in the earlier email were from a Sky News report. The link gives the % of fully vaccinated per country. No point looking at figures for just one vaccination. Thankfully as a vaccinator there is still a steady line coming for their vaccination each session

Of course there’s a point. The first vaccination confers 75% protection.

I feel that we should all stop wearing masks, I don't believe that they are effective . People don't wash them fiddle with them, share them etc they give the appearance of safety and make people feel secure but the reality is somewhat different.

Lucky for you you’re protected already. Not everyone is so lucky. You can still be responsible for killing someone or for them acquiring long Covid who hadn’t had the vaccine. Why is it so difficult to wait until everyone is fully protected?

I’ve not had even my first jab yet, and it seems that now in shops older folk without masks get really close. It makes me feel incredibly vulnerable

After all we’ve been through a final bit of solidarity please and then we can exit this mess without additional suffering

Wearing a mask correctly gives protection to those around you. There has been enough information about how to wear them, that there is no excuse for not wearing them correctly.
Many have now been vaccinated but we need to continue with the mask wearing to protect those who haven’t yet or for medical reasons can’t be vaccinated.
