To be shocked at what’s just happened on the school run

So today after picking DCs up from school/nursery a car that was parked up close behind my car put their car into accelerate instead of reverse and ended up pinning me between my rear bumper and their front bumper whilst I was putting bags etc in the boot.

Mum in question did not realise one of my legs was taking the brunt of this until I was shouting to tell her to reverse.
She did apologise at the time, but didn’t get out of the car to ask if I was ok or anything like that!

I’ve got home now and my knee already is swollen and starting to bruise.. I’m also thinking this could have been a much worse accident if this was DS stood in between the car.

Fortunately a parent came over to check if I was ok and he did catch the incident on his dash cam.
So would you put this down as an unfortunate accident or do anything about it? I’m not even sure who or if I would report it too.

I would take the footage to the police, and you probably ought to go and get your knee checked out if you can. That's awful! Are you feeling OK, other than obviously shocked!

ClaudiaWankleman · 28/04/2021 15:37

You should report this to the police. That's very dangerous behaviour. You could have been more seriously injured, or a small child could have been injured, even at head height depending on the car involved.

Aroundtheworldin80moves · 28/04/2021 15:37

Report it, at least to the school. Next time it could be a child. I've seen toddlers get loose in school car parks before. School car parks also seem to attract the worst driving.

ApplePie86 · 28/04/2021 15:37

This is a hit and run...seriously...

MajorMujer · 28/04/2021 15:37

Report it to the police, it is driving without due care and attention, if she did the same to a child she could potentially kill them.

ancientgran · 28/04/2021 15:38

Well it is a very unfortunate accident but I'd still do something about it. It should be reported to the police, it was an accident involving injury so the driver should report it anyway. You also need their details to make a claim on their insurance if this has caused you any issues. I'd get your knee checked out as knee injuries can result in alot of pain.

I hope you are OK, I think it is awful that she didn't even get out of the car.

stackemhigh · 28/04/2021 15:38

YANBU. Did you get her license plate number?

Hope you'r ok Flowers

I think we need to have the starting position that all other drivers are idiots, and protect ourselves.

JocastaNu · 28/04/2021 15:38

I'd report to the police. She has left the scene of an accident.

I hope you are ok. You might find that the pain gets worse over the next few hours as the bruising comes out.

Mydarlingmyhamburger · 28/04/2021 15:38

I’d report this op as it was outside a school. She could have hit a child

JonSnowedUnder · 28/04/2021 15:38

Report. I can't believe she just drove off!

CounsellorTroi · 28/04/2021 15:40

I'm not surprised you're shocked and the attitude of the woman was shocking too. I can't believe she didn't get out of the car to check if you were ok. I am not sure what you should do about it though. Hope someone else has some useful advice.

DonLewis · 28/04/2021 15:41

She didn't get out of the car??? Did she realise she'd hurt you?

Echoing what everyone else has said. Get the knee checked and report to the police.

Hope you're OK. Sweet cup of tea might be the best thing to do first. Flowers

Grumblesigh · 28/04/2021 15:41

That's a hit and run. Report it, to the school and the police.

But first, get your poor knee checked out. You may well need an x-ray. I'm so sorry that happened to you! I hope you are not in too much pain.

EvilOnion · 28/04/2021 15:41

Oh that sounds awful OP, I would get yourself checked out by a Doctor as it sounds like there could be an injury of some sort.

Try to push the what ifs out of your mind about DS, they will drive you mad- I do the same thing but it wasn't him, he is fine!

I'm not sure where you would report it either but hopefully at the very least the woman will learn from her mistake and won't repeat it again. I can't believe she didn't even get it of the car!

osbertthesyrianhamster · 28/04/2021 15:42

Go to the police! Get your knee checked out but this woman committed a crime, hit and run. She could have killed someone or seriously injured you.

PurpleDaisies · 28/04/2021 15:42

Did you tell her to go or was she just yelling sorry as she was driving off?

It sounds like you should get your knee checked, talk to your car insurance company and the police.

Soubriquet · 28/04/2021 15:43

Accident or not this needs to be taken seriously

If she couldn’t see you, an adult, she would have missed a toddler

And your knee would be a toddlers head

Grumblesigh · 28/04/2021 15:43

And just to add, of course it would have been beyond horrible for her to have hit a child. But it's very bad that she did hit you! You count, too, OP!

TheQueef · 28/04/2021 15:43

Didn't get out of the car?!?

Report to the police.

Vooga · 28/04/2021 15:43

Jesus Christ, get it checked and report her. She left the scene of an accident and she hit you, and it was outside a school and could've been a lot worse!

Ihopeyourcakeisshit · 28/04/2021 15:43

I am aghast that she didn't get out of the car!

Pinkpaisley · 28/04/2021 15:43

You need to report the incident.

I also have to ask, was this on school grounds or on the street? Our drop off is on school grounds and they gave an extremely strict rules about people walking between the cars. Drivers have to stay in the car. Children are only allowed to exit on the side of the curb (which means you have to arrange your car seats accordingly). You also aren’t allowed to have things in the boot. It’s all to keep people from getting hit with so many cars coming through in such a short time.

Cocolapew · 28/04/2021 15:44

Tell the police and get your knee checked out.
Hope you're ok, what a shock Flowers

namechangemarch21 · 28/04/2021 15:44

As everyone has said - policy, doctor, your insurance company.

We were in a car crash when I was younger, my mum initially had a sore shoulder but ended up with years of physio. You don't know what will happen with your knee, and the woman sounds like she didn't even realise she'd hit someone. I'm not sure she should be on the road.

Get the dash cam footage, or tell the police where to get it, and look after yourself. Is there anyone who can come sit with you? Its a big shock and will take a while to hit you.

wombatspoopcubes · 28/04/2021 15:44

I really don't understand what the school have to do with it. It's a crime that happened on the street, not some playground kerfuffle.
