Doyou care about Boris Johnson's constant lying?

Kendodd · 28/04/2021 07:24

My theory is that voters don't care.

OP posts:
BettysCardigan · 28/04/2021 09:08

Of course I care, I'm enraged and disgusted by it on a daily basis right now.

But I'm Scottish so I have no chance of swaying who the PM of the UK is.

Bearnecessity · 28/04/2021 09:08

Many conservative voters are not sucked in by the buffoon persona of Boris but they have got the intelligence to see past it which is why the empty mud-slinging doesn't stick.

Peanutbutterandbananatoastie · 28/04/2021 09:09

@ShitzandGiggles

As long as Boris is doing the best for Britain, or what I think is best for Britain, and putting our country first, I don’t much care about how he does it. Presumably SNP voters feel the same way about Nicola.
Is giving people who give you money, or sleep with you, government contracts doing what’s best for Britain? Or would picking the best person for the job be better for Britain?
amusedtodeath1 · 28/04/2021 09:10

I care, but I'm not surprised. I tend to assume that all Politicians are lying all the time, or at least only telling us the good bits. It's what politics is about. The fact is the system makes it impossible to get elected if you don't lie/omit stuff.

Boris Johnson should never have been in a position to be PM IMO. I just wish Labour would get their shit together, because right now I can't see a viable alternative.

How can you think he is doing the best for Britain when you look at the history of the past year? We have ridiculously high death rates from Covid which are directly attributable to appalling decisions he and his government have made. And we will be paying for years for the billions of government money he's funnelled to his mates on ludicrously expensive PPE, Track & trace and similar deals.
greenlynx · 28/04/2021 09:11

I care but BJ doesn’t care about my opinion as I don’t vote Tory and I’m in safe Labour seat.
“They all are lying” is such a poor excuse. We don’t accept lying on a personal level from our friends and colleagues so why do we accept it from politicians whom we’ve put in position of trust?
And with trust goes responsibility, all politicians knew the rules, those who didn’t want to follow them could choose different careers.

adeleh · 28/04/2021 09:12

No, all politicians don’t lie. When did Caroline Lucas lie, for instance. You make things so easy for the corrupt ones by dismissing their actions like this.
And Johnson goes so far in his dishonesty. I care very much about it. I care even more that so many seem to have given up any ideals of integrity in public life. And the idea that we should be reassured about what happens behind closed doors beggars belief. You mean the PPE deals that have emerged? The £37 billion channelled to Tor finders like Dyson, who never did produce a ventilator, while ignoring e-mails from firms that were offering to produce equipment at cost and had actual experience in producing it?
This is why he keeps getting away with it.
We deserve better.

KateWinsome · 28/04/2021 09:13

Yes, I care that he was elected PM as a known liar and will remain PM having lied in Office. And people will accept that because our standards have become so low.

VaVaGloom · 28/04/2021 09:13

@Kendodd sadly I think you are right at the momen but something will stick eventually and he will get sacked (as he has been previously)

The US got rid of Trump.

CornishYarg · 28/04/2021 09:14

@IpanemaChic

The dyson ventilator example matters because companies with years of experience who could have provided ventilators were passed over to give a prominent Brexitier business because it looked good.

Yes I care.

Absolutely this. The "I was just doing whatever was necessary to try to secure more ventilators during a crisis" line is yet another outright lie.
worriedatthemoment · 28/04/2021 09:14

No as it doesn't directly affect me at all ,especially when its from supposedly reliable sources that won't actually put their name to it and provide proof.
I can say someone said something , doesn't make it true or I could forget to add the context of how they said

Whammyyammy · 28/04/2021 09:14

No, don't care, and he'll still get my vote

Demelza82 · 28/04/2021 09:15

Anecdotally I can tell you that the working classes that love Boris and vote for him in their droves couldn't give a shiny shit.

Angry
BettysCardigan · 28/04/2021 09:15

@Overdueanamechange

No I don't care. I'm more interested in actions than words behind closed doors. I'm not interested in how much his flat cost to refurb, as long as the tax payer doesn't have to pay it. I don't care what deal he made with Dyson to get life saving equipment. I'm not interested in who he snagged on the family sofa.
Taking money from an unknown source is an action.

Doing favours for your rich tax-evading friends is an action.

Shagging on the sofa is an action.

DrRamsesEmerson · 28/04/2021 09:15

I care. I care that he lies to Parliament. I care that he thinks rules are for the little people. I care that corruption is becoming normal in our government (Jenrick ought to be in prison, not still a Secretary of State). I care that rule breaking has no consequences any more.

I've worked in Westminster for 20 years now. They really aren't all like that, but they will be if this carries on much longer - what's the point of honesty and playing by the rules if lying and cheating bring all the rewards.

worriedatthemoment · 28/04/2021 09:16

Also many have short memories and seem to think labour have never lied or done anything wrong.
There all crap thats the issue

4cats2kids · 28/04/2021 09:16

Yes, but I’ve never liked him.

Silverfly · 28/04/2021 09:16

I agree with earlier posters who say there is a difference between acceptable political behaviour (eg making manifesto promises that they don't necessarily stick to), and telling barefaced lies.

I care.

worriedatthemoment · 28/04/2021 09:18

@Silverfly no i disagree I vote based on a manifesto so therefore they have lied to get my vote,

worriedatthemoment · 28/04/2021 09:19

@BettysCardigan what he does on a sofa is nothing to do with us and again you have no idea if its actually true , just because someone says it , who has sold her story to a paper

BagORats · 28/04/2021 09:19

@Disfordarkchocolate

I care but so many Conservative voters are happy to be sucked in by his jolly buffon persona and happy to ignore his actions.
Or the labour alternative with Corbyn at the helm was unthinkable to an awful lot of people, so they voted Conservative.

People who vote differently to you are not gullible idiots, they just have different opinions

MaudesMum · 28/04/2021 09:20

I care about the gaslighting, by which I mean the blatent denial of promises and claims that he (and others) made over Brexit in particular. Our country is likely to be poorer and more divided as a result, and the total lack of taking responsibility infuriates me. I care that all politicians are now being tarnished with the same brush when it comes to corruption, and that this contributes to a lack of engagement in politics which can only be a bad thing.

Viviennemary · 28/04/2021 09:21

Not really. Labour are no better.

EerieSilence · 28/04/2021 09:21

@Overdueanamechange - don't you really care that a Tory supporter financed his flat refurbishment and that said supporter went on winning some very lucrative contracts?
Does it mean you don't mind corruption by politicians?

Whammyyammy · 28/04/2021 09:23

@worriedatthemoment

This, and the fact Labour don't seem interested in doing anything constructive, just running down the opposition.
