My theory is that voters don't care.

OP posts:
Waxonwaxoff0 · 28/04/2021 08:41

All politicians lie. I did not and would not vote for Boris but I am not shocked that he lies. Even the ones I would vote for lie I'm sure.

LizzieSiddal · 28/04/2021 08:44

Yes I care very much. Those who don’t care, one day will unfortunately very much care because something he lies about will affect you or your family and you’ll wished you’d paid more attention.

DodoApplet · 28/04/2021 08:45

@Rillington

He was never ever fit to be a prime minister. He's a bumbling fool. I don't believe a word he says.
I don't believe a word he says either, but to dismiss him as a fool would be to underestimate him. He's an utterly ruthless individual who, for the sole purpose of advancing his own career, allied himself to a bunch of exceptionally rich and powerful men who didn't like the way the EU was trying to clamp down on some of their tax avoidance schemes. The buffoon thing is a well-rehearsed act to get less discerning voters to roll their eyes at the mention of his name and say "Oh, he's such a scallywag, isn't he!". That this ploy clearly works is depressing beyond measure.
DenisetheMenace · 28/04/2021 08:47

Yes, precisely what Dodo said. Very dangerous individual.

Nith · 28/04/2021 08:47

@Chloemol

No, they all lie regardless of which party they are
Admittedly many of the Tories are pretty bad, but even they don't show the breathtaking cynical depths of corruption that Johnson shows.
Nith · 28/04/2021 08:48

@Shouldittcnow

Oh damn I voted wrong.

Yes I care! A lot!

You can change your vote.
Bluntness100 · 28/04/2021 08:48

Honestly I’m not sure how much of this is mud slinging and how much is he did lie. It’s really bloody hard to tell, one things for sure, believing the accusations without question would be a bit stupid. It’s not like the peoole making the accusations are good people never known to lie and who don’t habe am agenda.

Quincie · 28/04/2021 08:50

Will we ever get a good and honest PM - the job is so funless with Social Media and the papers out to cause a downfall at the first opportunity - who would put their family through that? Hence we get T May, D Cameron (now exposed), Boris, and the US gets Trump and Biden.

No one would take on these public roles if they had any sense. Look at the threats and misogyny against women MPs. Horrendous.

Disfordarkchocolate · 28/04/2021 08:51

I care but so many Conservative voters are happy to be sucked in by his jolly buffon persona and happy to ignore his actions.

bishbashbosh99 · 28/04/2021 08:51

Honestly no, finding it all quite boring. We will never actually know who's lying as they've all got ulterior motives. Not saying I'm all for boris, defo not but sick of the pathetic shit stirring from all sides.

DollyParton2 · 28/04/2021 08:52

To me this entire situation says far more about Cummings than it does Boris. Cummings a man who was given so much opportunity by Boris and was a close friend. He’s now so bitter he’s sold his old boss/ friend out - scheming, vindictive, bitchy, sociopathic.
Who on earth would want to be PM during an unexpected, unplanned for pandemic? The most stressful situation this country has faced in +50 years. Of course meetings were heated. Emotional. Of course he would have said things in the heat of the moment under intense pressure he didn't mean but regrets. Don’t we all do this???
To me: yes, this is nothing significant but I just want stability and this row over “he said she said...” is childish, pathetic and not helpful.

ClarkeGriffin · 28/04/2021 08:52

I care, but it's not as if we have any decent replacements in any party is it? All of the leaders are liars, all politicians are liars. They are all out for themselves, certainly not for the little people.

Corruption is at the heart of every politician. If they weren't corrupt, they wouldn't be where they are, and they would certainly never advance high.

frumpety · 28/04/2021 08:52

DH and I were talking the other day about this and wondering what Boris would have to do, for voters to turn against him ? We couldn't think of anything that wouldn't illicit sympathy and support from the people who voted him in.

Pyewackect · 28/04/2021 08:54

He’ll still win the next election and with a majority.

Iwantacookie · 28/04/2021 08:54

Yes I do. But what can I do? I didnt vote for him and would rather shit it my hands and clap than vote for him.
The biggest problem is they have noone to be accountable too.
Just seen a Facebook post that says "the uk is a place where a Caterpillar cake gets more scrutiny than a Tory mp" cant really argue with it.

Sittingonabench · 28/04/2021 08:54

It’s not that I don’t care but I’m hardly surprised which probably lessens the impact. Some stuff is disgraceful and the rest is corruption of levels I had expected of him.

poorbuthappy · 28/04/2021 08:57

I will go to my grave being 100% astonished of the lies told during the Brexit campaign and there being zero consequences to those who blatantly lied.
Lying is just the norm now. Well for those in power who can get away with it - see the Post Office scandal for further details.
Untouchable self serving bastards.
Our systems and infrastructure mean jack shit anymore.
We need a revolution.

tadpole39 · 28/04/2021 08:58

He lied about the NHS being safe,it’s being sold off to US contracts as we speak. Wait til you have to pay for your cancer care,childbirth etc. I guarantee you’ll care then .

osbertthesyrianhamster · 28/04/2021 08:58

Obviously voters don't as they keep voting Conservatives in.

ThetaSigma · 28/04/2021 09:00

Boris has a very carefully cultivated public image that means nothing sticks. His bumbling persona means that any alleged corruption is just put down to his “cheeky chappy” ways - like a political Del Boy.

He truly is a politician for the social media age - all front, no real substance, just telling people what they want to hear based on what’s politically expedient. He’ll win the next election with a decent majority, depressingly. He’s many things but he’s certainly not a fool.

frumpety · 28/04/2021 09:00

Corruption is at the heart of every politician. If they weren't corrupt, they wouldn't be where they are, and they would certainly never advance high.

If that were true and I am fairly sure it isn't, does that mean you should just expect and accept it ? No censure or accountability, ever, regardless of what they do ?

ShitzandGiggles · 28/04/2021 09:04

As long as Boris is doing the best for Britain, or what I think is best for Britain, and putting our country first, I don’t much care about how he does it. Presumably SNP voters feel the same way about Nicola.

Bubblebu · 28/04/2021 09:05

he seems to me to be a classic example of someone whose personal life (historic and current) was a very obvious blue print and (for want of a better word) red flag as to exact how he would and has run his position as prime minister.

anyone who says "what he does in his private life is irrelevant" is wrong. How can that be said when the whole expenditure / who pays? question about the redecoration of accommodation so blatently conflates his private life and his public office right in front of people's eyes?

YouAreTheStorm · 28/04/2021 09:05

@harridan50

Right now at this moment no. We need to get out of this mess without backstabbing political drama, And I cannot stand him
Don't be ridiculous. Covid doesn't give politicians to behave however they like.
Frazzled2207 · 28/04/2021 09:07

Yes but what annoys me more is how the BBC seem to gloss over it time and time again, as if it isn't really happening
