My theory is that voters don't care.

OP posts:
romdowa · 28/04/2021 09:23

They all lie. Doesn't matter what party or what country. They are all the same, once they get into power anything said previously no longer counts and they will do anything to stay in power.

countryatheart · 28/04/2021 09:24

I don't think he is lying.

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 28/04/2021 09:26

I’m not remotely bothered about who paid for doing up the flat, as long as it wasn’t the taxpayer. The money is in any case a comparative flea bite.

IMO the vast majority of politicians who rise much above mere MP level, lie, cover up and obfuscate. The truly honest MPs, who I know do exist, are unlikely to get anywhere if they lack the streak of ruthlessness/ recklessness (and IMO Boris has more than his fair share of both, with flamboyance thrown in) that’s needed to survive in the shark-infested waters of Westminster.

I suspect that much the same could be said for politicians virtually anywhere.

maggiethecat · 28/04/2021 09:27

I care that under that veneer of bumbling, cheerful fool is a really unpleasant entitled man with very low morals and poor judgment. Who will lie or do whatever it takes to hang on to the job.

Wait until the effects of his poor judgment come to roost.

Blacktothepink · 28/04/2021 09:29

I care very much, but I know plenty who don’t ☹️

C130 · 28/04/2021 09:29

@Rillington

He was never ever fit to be a prime minister. He's a bumbling fool. I don't believe a word he says.
This.
PattyPan · 28/04/2021 09:30

I care but I’d never vote Tory anyway. Can’t believe anyone except for him would think he’s suitable for leading the country when every word that leaves his mouth is just total bullshit.

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 28/04/2021 09:30

Might add, the original House of Cards novel (by Michael Dobbs) is a cracking read for anyone who relishes a dodgy-politician story, ditto the brilliant original TV version (not the later American one.).

RunnerDown · 28/04/2021 09:30

He is a psychopath. If people don’t care about him lying and let him off with it he will financially and morally bankrupt this country.
The thing I care most about however is the fact that he gave away millions of taxpayers money to his cronies to make ppe during the first lockdown. What they produced wasn’t up to standard and may have cost nhs workers their lives. He ignored legitimate companies who knew what they were doing. And then there is track and trace which has also cost lives due to its lack of effectiveness.
There is also
Money given to Jennifer Acura
£2.5 million spent refurbishing a press room
Hundreds of contracts given out to mates with no tendering process which have failed to deliver
The disaster that is brexit and the real possibility of peace breaking down in Northern Island
His comments and callousness about people dying of COVID
His stealthy privatisation of the NHS . His reluctance to give them an adequate pay rise ( because he wants the NHS to collapse)
He is not doing his best for the U.K. .He is doing his best for Boris. If you can’t see how corrupt he is I despair. He should be in prison

DollyParton2 · 28/04/2021 09:31

Nith “ridiculously high death rates” yes for a time... but when this all plays out ours won’t be ridiculously higher than a lot of Europe.
We are now 13th for death rates per 1 million/ population and we will fall lower and lower in that ranking as this carries on. Cast scorn at his mistakes sure- but with the rest of the world in awe at our vaccination rollout- be willing to praise the good too.

BettysCardigan · 28/04/2021 09:31

This thread is kind of terrifying, and explains a lot really.

What he's done, over time, is lower the barriers of what we find acceptable. He's told so many lies, over years, that we have been taught to have no expectations that he will ever do the right, good, or honest thing. That's how he's done it.

Those of you on this thread who don't seem to mind that our nation is run by someone who is literally content to let thousands of people die while he funnels money to his political friends, have let yourselves fall for it, hook line and sinker.

JediGnot · 28/04/2021 09:32

@Chloemol

No, they all lie regardless of which party they are
That's what rich newspaper barons who like avoiding tax want you to think
YonderTweek · 28/04/2021 09:33

I care and also think he should be in prison. But he'll get away with it all as usual. It really pisses me off.

ThetaSigma · 28/04/2021 09:34

@ShitzandGiggles

As long as Boris is doing the best for Britain, or what I think is best for Britain, and putting our country first, I don’t much care about how he does it. Presumably SNP voters feel the same way about Nicola.
Abolishing elections? Sending “undesirables” to “camps” for “re-education”? Political opponents going “missing”?

Obviously, none of the above are likely to happen, just keen to know where you’d draw the line.

deydododatdodontdeydo · 28/04/2021 09:34

I'm generally of the opinion that all politicians lie and they're all as bad as each other.
I'm not Labour or Conservative (or anything else).
But Johnson and his current lot are worse than anyone I can remember for a long while.
Papers and media decide whether it's a scandal or not by how they choose to cover it.
I don't think people care generally though.

Piglet89 · 28/04/2021 09:35

@LittleBookOfKalms well said.

RuggeryBuggery · 28/04/2021 09:35

I think there’s apathy because there’s a sense they’re all as bad as each other.
Possibly someone like Jeremy Corbyn seemed ‘different’ but look how he fared.

Also yes Boris is a liar, but we knew that already surely?
And unfortunately it just doesn’t feel like there’s any credible alternative in the labour or Lib Dem’s!

10YellowTulips · 28/04/2021 09:35

I despair at the number of people on this thread who don't care and who don't think its a big deal.
The current government are probably the most corrupt that has ever been. These examples show just how little consideration they have for the ordinary folk and the rule of law.
Literally billions have been squandered on a poor covid response and questionably awarded contracts, further billions on a brexit deal that benefits no one except the super rich. Our covid death toll is far larger than it needs to be, yes, they have to some extent redeemed themselves by getting us early vaccine access but that does not excuse the mistakes. And covid has provided a nice distraction for the disaster that is brexit.

Maverick197 · 28/04/2021 09:37

I care a lot. Every month when I get my payslip and I see the amount of income tax I have to pay it depresses me to think that most of it will go to line the pockets of Tory donors.

I don't understand why people aren't more upset about the billions of taxpayers money wasted on the test&trace system? There never seems to be enough money for schools or nurses' salaries, but there always seems to be millions and billions to the mates of the the clown (sorry I can't even say his name).

SilentPeace · 28/04/2021 09:38

I care. He outright lied about the effect of Brexit on N. Ireland. Lie after lie.

SockQueen · 28/04/2021 09:38

I care, and I don't think they're "all as bad as each other." I think BJ has got away with carelessly, callously lying about so many things for so long, it astounds me that anyone thinks he's fit for power. But I've never voted for him and never will, so I'm not sure what else I'm meant to do about it?

maggiethecat · 28/04/2021 09:39

@BettysCardigan
'He's told so many lies, over years, that we have been taught to have no expectations that he will ever do the right, good, or honest thing'
This

The only thing that separates him from a certain ex President is a very posh education.

ancientgran · 28/04/2021 09:40

@lllllllllll

No, I can’t see that he’s done much wrong, other than try to secure a deal with Dyson quickly to get more ventilators for the UK. It all seems like a massive storm in a teacup!
Didn't he say he'd "fix" a tax problem? That can't be right. Anyway Dyson didn't deliver the goods did he, lots of British based firms didn't get the same sort of support. www.theguardian.com/technology/2021/apr/22/covid-lancashire-firm-wades-into-dyson-ventilators-row
Totalbeach · 28/04/2021 09:40

I care but I 100% don’t think it’ll change or that he will see any consequences from it therefore I don’t waste any energy actively caring.

And I do think basically all politicians lie.

HarveySchlumpfenburger · 28/04/2021 09:40

@harridan50

Right now at this moment no. We need to get out of this mess without backstabbing political drama, And I cannot stand him
But what if it’s the lyingband corruption that got us into this mess?

How you deal with a crisis as PM is intertwined with with the lying and corruption that is second nature to you?
