Tens of thousands of people protested in London yesterday, why isn’t it in the news?

What is going on with the news these days? Whether or not you agree with anti restriction protests, surely the public have a right to be informed about a protest that large? I’m feeling increasingly uncomfortable with the censorship. Anyone else?

Our neighbour went to this. Left a st George flag hanging from her window saying things like 'no muzzles ' 'no ventilation '. Despise her more now since we have people that work in the local hospital who have been dealing with the virus for over a year now. She is spectacularly selfish in other ways also.Angry

Iminaglasscaseofemotion · 25/04/2021 08:55

They don't deserve the media attention, unless it's to shame the idiots.

flumposie · 25/04/2021 08:55

Should say that other neighbours work in the local hospital.

GrammarTeacher · 25/04/2021 08:56

It is in the news. Along with photos of repugnant anti-semitism on the march.

CovidCorvid · 25/04/2021 09:00

@kirlali

Why were they wearing yellow stars?
Because the covid deniers feel as hard done by as Jews in ww2. 🤷‍♀️ They feel persecuted, etc. Bloody idiots.

I saw reports in the news, mainly about the injured police officers who had been attacked by the protest marchers.

Blueeyedgirl21 · 25/04/2021 09:01

I know someone like that @flumposie, since covid it’s all ‘fuck the system’ ‘the system is controlling us’ etc, well ‘the system’ has housed you and your kids for the past fifteen years, paid for your kids school meals, paid you money so you can live and provided you with childcare so you can’t have thought it was that bad !

CoalTit · 25/04/2021 09:02

Why were they wearing yellow stars?
I think they're worried that the vaccine passport will be used to coerce everyone into getting the vaccine by denying work, travel and access to various venues to anyone without it, as Jewish people were denied access to various services and venues in 1930s Germany. They're afraid that the pandemic is being used as an excuse to change society for the worse.

SquirmOfEels · 25/04/2021 09:05

Oh wait, I just checked and Luvvie McTwatface is still pontificating all over Twitter

11 days to the election, so he needs to capitalise on this demo for campaign purposes.

If this thread is anything to go by, his support is falling (when I first looked, about 2/3 thought OP was NBU, now it's 50/50)

Is that what you think too, @CoalTit?

Or they're so spectacularly selfish and entitled that they think not being able to do exactly as they please is the equivalent of living as a minority under Nazi rule.

@Lindy2

I'm not interested in idiots like that. I'm quite happy not to see morons on the news. People being stupid isn't particularly newsworthy.
Then why am I subjected to the latest idiocy from Extinction Rebellion?
Nesbo · 25/04/2021 09:07

The estimates ive seen put the number at about 10,000. Where is OP getting “tens of thousands” from? Is that just spreading disinformation?

EnoughnowIthink · 25/04/2021 09:08

tens of thousands? The news outlets that are reporting are suggesting around 10 thousand.

Just a bit of hyperbole

I wonder if OP will return to the thread?

bumblingbovine49 · 25/04/2021 09:09

@Merename

I’ve just been on bbc website and not seen it. What was going on with antisemitism at it?
iTV are reporting it www.itv.com/news/2021-04-24/covid-thousands-march-against-vaccine-passports-and-coronavirus-restrictions-in-central-london-street-party-protest
frumpety · 25/04/2021 09:09

@CoalTit are they against lateral flow tests aswell ?

LakieLady · 25/04/2021 09:09

@minou123

SquirmOfEels Which did rather leave me wondering if the issue here was the lack of favourable reporting, rather than an absence of reports?

I agree.

I saw Lawrence Fox is also (falsely) claiming censorship.
But his real issue is the main stream media didn't interview him. This has really annoyed him.

Good! The more annoyed Lawrence Fox gets, the more assured I am that things are moving in the right direction.
RoseMartha · 25/04/2021 09:10

Whether it was or wasnt I wouldnt have chosen to read it other than the headline on the news app. I dont actually watch the news on TV. (I think I watched once last year abt lockdown one).

I thought the news app would have had something on those poor people and their families on the missing sub which it didnt and I had to google for an update.

A pp said nearly a million Confused

Odd

Blueeyedgirl21 · 25/04/2021 09:10

Imagine being so thick and void of empathy that you can even begin to extrapolate a link between covid restrictions and the Holocaust . It’s absolutely mind boggling and I am glad that people in my own life who think like this are making themselves known so I can never speak to them, do them favours or make eye contact with them again tbh

Heronsnest · 25/04/2021 09:11

I’m glad they are not getting the attention they so desperately want - just because we are entering a calmer phase now doesn’t mean we are all immune.
The news bulletins from India are heartbreaking

Gladimnotcampinginthisweather · 25/04/2021 09:11

The Police have a method of estimating numbers and the protesters invariably say the numbers were much higher.

ForeverAintEnough12 · 25/04/2021 09:12

Interesting article here on the rise of conspiracy theorists - from Irish perspective but I’d imagine the issue is way worse in U.K. given the larger population. No doubt the types out protesting after doing their own ‘research’.

@cariadlet

I've just read the report of the protest on the Mirror online. What a bunch of stupid selfish twats.

I can understand the frustration with repeated lockdowns (although I don't personally object because they have driven down rates of infection). But the mask refusal is so petty, petulant and unscientific. I find that really contemptible.

Mask refusal is not unscientific. There’s no real-world evidence they are actually protective, and some actual evidence that they are useless.
LakieLady · 25/04/2021 09:13

@hettie

It is/was covered by msm. The telegraph, independent and standard are covering it...Not sure there was a million people there thoughConfused
Ten thousand, according to Reuters.
