Tens of thousands of people protested in London yesterday, why isn’t it in the news?

What is going on with the news these days? Whether or not you agree with anti restriction protests, surely the public have a right to be informed about a protest that large? I’m feeling increasingly uncomfortable with the censorship. Anyone else?

It was on the news

RBKB · 25/04/2021 06:51

Perhaps it didn't make headlines because everyone thinks they are morons? Their first moronic protests were on the news. I expect they all think the vax contains a chip...BEEP BEEP!!!

Langsdestiny · 25/04/2021 06:53

It's on the news. I think there should have been more mention of their virulent anti semitism though.

cariadlet · 25/04/2021 06:53

Even if it hadn't been on the news, there are protests in London every weekend, for all sorts of different causes. Most don't make it onto the news

There's so much happening in the world that only a certain amount will make it onto the tv screen. News editors have to choose what to feature and how much airtime to give to different stories. That's not the same as censorship.

Lindy2 · 25/04/2021 06:53

I'm not interested in idiots like that. I'm quite happy not to see morons on the news. People being stupid isn't particularly newsworthy.

Ostryga · 25/04/2021 06:54

Some were wearing yellow stars. Middle class white people of course.

That I cannot wrap my head around, their sheer stupidity, awful, disgusting behaviour.

PermanentTemporary · 25/04/2021 07:00

Just read about it on my newspaper website. If this is censorship it's not very good. Alternatively it's not censorship, it's a minor story. I get that some people disagree with restrictions and there's a lot of suffering re job losses.

Merename · 25/04/2021 07:01

I’ve just been on bbc website and not seen it. What was going on with antisemitism at it?

SquirmOfEels · 25/04/2021 07:01

Most protests in London go unreported. But that's not true for this one.

SKY and others did report on demonstrators heckling shoppers (in masks) and there are also numerous reports of the arrests and the eight police officers injured.

Lesserspottedmama · 25/04/2021 07:08

Clearly I need to diversify where I get my news from. BBC news have said nothing about it. Seems like an awful lot of people to write them all off as morons and idiots. I would be interested to hear their points of what they feel so strongly about now things are starting to lift.

@Lesserspottedmama do you mean this protest?

Tens of thousands of people protested in London yesterday, why isn’t it in the news?
borntobequiet · 25/04/2021 07:12

Literally millions marched against Brexit and it was barely mentioned by the BBC.

ConfusedAdultFemale · 25/04/2021 07:13

Well tbh I’m glad I’ve not seen it in the news, I’m sick to the back teeth of reading about protests. Quite happy for folk to protest if they want but there really isn’t any need to keep it on the front page all the time. Gets as tedious as reading about Brexit and covid.

SquirmOfEels · 25/04/2021 07:13

news.sky.com/story/oxford-street-shoppers-heckled-over-face-masks-as-thousands-protest-covid-rules-in-london-12285712

"People out shopping in Oxford Street were met with calls from the crowd to "take your masks off", as many protesters carried signs featuring the usual, disproven, scientifically impossible conspiracy theories about vaccines"

Apparently there was also a gathering in Bristol

@borntobequiet

Satire surely?
sandgrown · 25/04/2021 07:17

Perhaps the terrible situation in India was more newsworthy.

Ostryga · 25/04/2021 07:18

@kirlali

Why were they wearing yellow stars?
Because they think wearing a mask and being vaccinated is akin to millions of Jews being slaughtered.
joystir59 · 25/04/2021 07:20

It's always been thus and campaigners and protest marchers get used to it. Are you aware for e.g. there is an annual Reclaim.the Night march to.protest against male violence to girls and women? Takes place in London and other major cities around the UK and has been going on for years and stops the traffic never ever gets mentioned in the news. Ditto Million Womrn Rise annual.protest march in London. Ditto weekly Women in Black silent protests at the Edith Cavill statue on parliament Square. Just to name a few that have been happening for ten years at least to my knowledge.

ConfusedAdultFemale · 25/04/2021 07:21

@kirlali only articles I can find about protestors wearing yellow stars are the ones about the protesters in Prague

It was on the news but as it’s a bunch of ridiculous idiots most will have ignored it.

PermanentTemporary · 25/04/2021 07:24

We all have areas of gullibility. I've been caught out by 2 scams in 2 years. I like to bet on the Grand National too, and I buy the odd lottery ticket. None of that is sensible. These people sound scared. You'd have to be in an extreme state to listen to Lawrence Fox on politics.

Ostryga · 25/04/2021 07:24

Added 2 photos somehow that aren’t relevant Confused

Herja · 25/04/2021 07:27

This was definitely on the bbc website last night. They were talking about the various mayoral candidates there and also some tv presenter I don't know.

I has been covered by the media, bbc included.
