To not put a tv in an Airbnb?

Pondering going find the Airbnb route. There’s no tv in the place we’d do it and it would be a right faff putting one in. I don’t watch loads of tv, and I know lots of people watch on tablets etc anyway.

For context, it’s a couples/single adult space in an area of outstanding natural beauty.

YANBU - tv not needed
YABU - get a tv you cheapskate

@saraclara

Well this thread is wonderful. Lots of people sneering at TV while being focused on a screen while using the internet.
Grin The irony

Presumably they are not on holiday!

So it's only unacceptable to watch TV while you're on holiday?

saraclara · 18/04/2021 20:51

When I'm at home, it's easy enough to find things to do that aren't watching TV. I'm surrounded by my own stuff, and there are always things that need doing.

On holiday I'm in someone else's home. I don't have hobby equipment to hand, I don't have jobs around the house, or my own garden to see to.
So having been out all day, and made my dinner, I settle down in front of the TV or my laptop. If an Airbnb had neither a TV or WiFi I'd be struggling to be occupied. A book is okay for a night or two. But I'd quite like to just chill on the sofa in front of a Film or some TV.

A massive thank you to whoever mentioned the indoor aerials. Hadn't considered that. Have ordered one and our Airbnb guests will thank you for that once it arrives!

We put a smart tv in our guest room but getting it connected to the main house aerial was like requesting the moon on a stick. I stuck a Netflix account on there and people haven't complained but we charge a fair whack and I want people to have it if they want it.

Good point saraclara

Big TVs look really ugly and tacky. If you can conceal it within it a nice armoire it could work, otherwise it gives off a creepy hotel vibe

TV hidden in a repro cupboard - very Hyacinth Bucket.

Whenever I stay somewhere cheap I can't stop thinking about the businessmen pleasuring themselves to the smart tv

That tells us rather more about you than we really need to know Wink

Don't ever visit an old peoples' home if large TVs have that effect on you.

MyDcAreMarvel · 19/04/2021 10:19

We do Airbnb without no telly in a self contained flat. 300 bookings on and one person has comented it would have been nice to have a telly.
Well of course they haven’t commented as you have provided a telly” Grin

@safariboot you may wish to roll your eyes less and read more.

OP: “The internet’s a big shit but not dog shit. We can watch Netflix....just maybe not on two screens at once..!”

A TV is one of those things I wouldn't bother checking for when booking an airbnb but might shove something on in the background if it's there. But I always do city breaks where I'd be out in the evening - I think I'd use it more if rural unless there are a load of nice pubs nearby.

I agree, what a weird thing to keep thinking about. It wouldn't cross my mind!

From memory, I've never stayed anywhere with no television. I may not watch it but it is nice to have it just in case I want to. I'd have thought a TV would be a standard provision.
