To not put a tv in an Airbnb?

PutTheCakeDOWN · 16/04/2021 14:34

Pondering going find the Airbnb route. There’s no tv in the place we’d do it and it would be a right faff putting one in. I don’t watch loads of tv, and I know lots of people watch on tablets etc anyway.

For context, it’s a couples/single adult space in an area of outstanding natural beauty.

YANBU - tv not needed
YABU - get a tv you cheapskate

Wow! Now all they need to do is bring back London’s Burning!
RampantIvy · 18/04/2021 11:06

@Burmilla

I must be a dying breed! I'd much rather read than watch TV. My father used to call it "the idiot's lantern".
The two aren't mutually exclusive pastimes.

If it's a room in your house I'd want a TV. Imagine the couple of hours before bed, you're stuck in your bedroom bc the family is downstairs and you don't want to be rude, it's dark out, the internet isn't working well.

If you forgot your book or games you'd have to just sit there.

Big TVs look really ugly and tacky. If you can conceal it within it a nice armoire it could work, otherwise it gives off a creepy hotel vibe. Whenever I stay somewhere cheap I can't stop thinking about the businessmen pleasuring themselves to the smart tv :(

I'd love to know what he would call internet and social media like MN Grin

That's even more perverse than what the business men may or may not be doing

SchrodingersImmigrant · 18/04/2021 12:10

Don't forget the seals!

SchrodingersImmigrant · 18/04/2021 12:15

😁
Yes, yes.

Here is one making sure it stays awake long enough so people can just slowly drift to sleep without a need for something like a TV

We do Airbnb without no telly in a self contained flat. 300 bookings on and one person has comented it would have been nice to have a telly.
We are in a rural area in the Burren with poor WiFi. We just say it on the profile. We are 80 percent booked when open in the summer only. 70 percent in spring and autumn. We close winter.

Doingtheboxerbeat · 18/04/2021 13:26

@SchrodingersImmigrant Grin please don't start me off again , in my head this thread is called "ottergate".

RampantIvy · 18/04/2021 13:46

That's fine. People know before booking. TBH I'm not bothered about TV when holidaying outside of the UK, and I don't expect it. I would miss Wi-Fi because I like to check the weather forecast, when things are open, places to eat, local attractions etc.

What's social media then?

Shouldn't you be doing something much more wholesome? Grin

fakeplantsdontlookreal · 18/04/2021 13:58

YANBU. A local place has 1 bedroom woodland cabins that don't have TV's. They have wonderful views and hot tubs. They are booked solidly all year round by couples wanting a peaceful weekend in the country.

As long as it is clear in your advertising that there is no TV, then it shouldn't be a problem.

CleanAndPaidFor · 18/04/2021 14:02

People might not want to watch The Bill OP. They might want to relax with some french cinema, or an evening of Opera or a documentary on BBC4. Would that be ok with you?

SchrodingersImmigrant · 18/04/2021 14:10

Ottergate lol

PhatPhanny · 18/04/2021 14:13

I dont watch tv on holiday, but my husband does, and we were also on holiday when the attacks happened in London and we watched that, I'd not be put out by no tv, but a lot of people would.

SchrodingersImmigrant · 18/04/2021 14:17

Cabin/yurt/old cottage in the woods to get away from everything. Fine. It's really quite fitting actually.

A room in some side building. Pretty meh. So tv would be expected

Loveistheonlyway · 18/04/2021 14:48

Get a flippin telly fgs, people don't have to switch it on. All this ernest, worthy board game drivel drives me nuts quite honestly 😖

You are wrong.

If there is a telly, it absolutely must be switched on asap and for whole furation of the holidays. No one can escape it's call. Family and books get forgotten. The evil screen claims another victim. No self control can save you. Not even otters can help

lynsey91 · 18/04/2021 15:00

Although we watch a lot of tv at home, if we are going away for a couple of days it really doesn't bother me and DH if there is no tv. We are happy to read, play games, use our phones or tablets.

Any longer than, say, 4 days we would prefer a tv although if the accommodation was really nice and the area was somewhere we wanted to go it would not necessarily stop us booking it

saraclara · 18/04/2021 15:30

Well this thread is wonderful. Lots of people sneering at TV while being focused on a screen while using the internet.
