AIBU coffee run

Please settle a light hearted argument...

Our coffee machine is broken, my partner has got in the habit of making a 10 minute walk in the morning to the local french bakery to grab a coffee.
I've asked if he will get me one he says he doesn't want to carry two back...

AIBU to think this is selfish?!
I want a coffee!!

@Starstella21

Tbf he does usually make me tea and breakfast in bed each morning
I think that does change things somewhat.

CrazyTitsLiz · 16/04/2021 10:12

@RoaryMouth

Depends how good the coffee is.

HollowTalk · 16/04/2021 10:12

OP: AIBU to think my husband's selfish?
Virtually everyone: Yes, he's really selfish
OP: This is why I hate MN! I'm not coming back

KoalaOok · 16/04/2021 10:15

If he drinks his on the way back and doesn't want to be rushed back so yours would be cold I think that's fair enough.

Rukaya · 16/04/2021 10:17

Virtually everyone: Yes, he's really selfish

except those of us with any sense who know you can't possibly make that determination on such little evidence, and its typical hysterical MN style to all start shreiking he's the worst man since Pol Pot.

Regularsizedrudy · 16/04/2021 10:18

..does he only have one arm?

SleepingStandingUp · 16/04/2021 10:19

Well it's the classic drip feed isn't it.

DP walks to the shop daily to buy coffee but refuses to bring me anything back. Aibu to think he's an arse?

Everyone says yes

Oh well I forgot to add this is after he's made me tea and breakfast and dressed the 7 kids who he takes with him to the shop so I can bathe and he also brings two coffees back for our elderly neighbour and he walks the other neighbours 3 dogs at the same time and as soon as he's back he scrubs the floors and cleans the windows but it's the fact he didn't bring me coffee that annoyed me and I can't believe you all think he's an arse

abc4321 · 16/04/2021 10:20

I'd double down with "that's no problem if you can't carry two, just get mine".

Though I can understand there's a difference between holding a coffee in your hand wandering home and needing a bag or holder for a second one (which ends up slopping everywhere).

borntobequiet · 16/04/2021 10:20

Get an emergency cafetière and make your own. Much nicer.

fromdownwest · 16/04/2021 10:21

I would make a list of his finances and then make sure you have an emergency secret fund of cash.....

Sorry MN auto reply kicked in!

LTB

Seriously if he only wants to carry one then he can drink his in the street and carry yours home.

IEat · 16/04/2021 10:24

Definitely selfish
I’d make dinner but not furbhim and when he asks I’d say I don’t want to carry two
Tit for tat

wesowereonabreak · 16/04/2021 10:26

I'd check local delivery options, it's very possible either chains or local coffee shops deliver in your area, many started a service with covid.

He IS being a twat, all he needs is ask the barista to pour your coffee in a tight flask, no one is expecting him to carry 2 disposable paper cups for 10 minutes - coffee would be rank by the time it reaches you anyway.

YouJustDoYou · 16/04/2021 10:34

It would happen once for me, then I wouldn't be arsed to cook for him one evening "because it was too much work", then just may be he might see what do we coming from.

YouJustDoYou · 16/04/2021 10:35
  • he might just see
JudgeJ · 16/04/2021 10:42

@sirfredfredgeorge

Carrying two coffees for 10 minutes is really annoying, I'd certainly not want to do it, and probably would tell my partner they should just have a walk with me.

I may well do it, but it would not be something I'd want to do at all.

My late OH was dreadful carrying drinks, he couldn't manage a couple of cups in Costa, it was a shaking thing, the tales of his disasters were legendary, started with knocking over a full tea tray at his first Head's house!
Don't be too hard on him, I'd hate to have to rush back with a couple of coffees. In the larger picture you paint of him it's a minor thing really.
The90swereadecadeago · 16/04/2021 10:51

Yikes. My DP would ask if I wanted one and bring one back if I hadn’t replied just in case I’d missed the message - I’d do the same.

duodunical · 16/04/2021 10:56

'Lighthearted' was mentioned in the OP to be fair.

Scbchl · 16/04/2021 11:03

So bad. Neither myself or my husband would ever consider getting ourselves one and not the other person.

ImAlrightThanx · 16/04/2021 11:05

Thats horrible.

ChronicallyCurious · 16/04/2021 11:06

Starbucks is a 15 minute walk away from us and my DP walks there and back every weekend to get us coffee. I don’t see his issue?
