And no I'm not Indian.

OP posts:

Agggh its! @PickAChew* the Polpo cookbook has some lovely dairy-free carb-free recipes; Venetian food is a bit of an outlier as far as the usual idea of Italian food goes.

adviceseekingnamechanger · 16/04/2021 08:36

Yes! Indian closely followed by Thai.

reprehensibleme · 16/04/2021 08:42

Indian, Malaysian Indonesian, Thai. Beef rendang is food of the gods, could eat green papaya salad every day. Indian food is so varied, not all heavy, rich, spicy curries.

UnreasonablyPissedOff · 16/04/2021 08:44

@Slothkin I agree the Polpo cookbooks are great. I love eating in the restaurants & I visit Venice once a year (in normal times)

PickAChew · 16/04/2021 08:48

Ooh, thanks for the Polpo recommendation

Cocomarine · 16/04/2021 08:51

Too hard to choose - thank goodness we don’t have to!

How has Indonesian not been mentioned yet?!

South African Bobotie beats any Indian dish - but then, look where it came from, Indonesia!

Apple pie.
Chicken and ham pie.
Steak pie.
Any pie.

Shortcrust pastry is AMAZING.

But then - there is probably no food in the world to beat a naan.

But a Yorkshire pudding runs a close second.

Hungarian goulash.

Seafood chowder.

See - no way am I picking one cuisine!

Cocomarine · 16/04/2021 08:52

Russian borscht 😋
German sauerkraut 😋
Jacket potato done long and slow, with cheese and tuna 😋

Poorlykitten · 16/04/2021 08:53

Yes! Totally agree. I do like Thai too though.

12BottlesOfVintageChampagne · 16/04/2021 08:56

Just - food. All of the foods.

🐖🐖🐖

Taikoo · 16/04/2021 08:57

No.
Italian.

georgarina · 16/04/2021 08:57

Love Indian. And Chinese. And Japanese. And Mexican. And Mediterranean.

lol

sashagabadon · 16/04/2021 08:59

I love Indian food, I also love Middle Eastern food. I am not a big Chinese food fan

Luckyelephant1 · 16/04/2021 09:01

Agree about Indian food being the best, but most standard Indian takeaways in the UK are shockingly bad and not a true representation of Indian food at all. You need to know where to go or alternatively make it yourself!

JingsMahBucket · 16/04/2021 09:18

@Northernsoullover @Cissyandflora, @SimonJT is right and not being snobby. Most food people think they’re ordering / eating, especially from takeaways are not actually Indian. They’re Bangladeshi or Pakistani as are the owners and cooks in the kitchen. They just call them “Indian” because they know people don’t culturally care enough to know the difference.

JingsMahBucket · 16/04/2021 09:19

And to add to that, a lot of it is “British Indian” food and not actually Indian food.

To me it is but then it is what I have grown up eating. I've recently discovered thai and Malaysian cuisine and am hooked, so many different flavours. I would love to travel around the world eating as many different cuisines as I could.

I listened to a fascinating podcast about the history of curry the other day if anyone's interested. It was on Spotify - the series is called Gastro Pod and the episode was called The Curry Chronicles.

Fgs1 · 16/04/2021 09:40

Nope it's Thai, love a good Thai red curry!

IRelateToViewpointsNotPeople · 16/04/2021 09:41

That was meant as a report, not quote!

FuckyouCovid21 · 16/04/2021 09:42

I've not experienced much Indian food, I've had the odd mild curry and I quite like sag aloo and peshwari (sp?) naan but I hate, hate, hate coriander and it seems to feature a lot, also not a fan of very spicy. I've tried and liked badamee, pasanda but I'm open to trying some different food - any recommendations?

In order of preference, mine would be

Italian
Chinese
Turkish
Indian

PenCreed · 16/04/2021 09:46

I haven't been to Georgia but went to a Georgian restaurant years ago and had absolutely fantastic food. Sadly for the life of me I can't remember where it was.

Was it the one in Angel @ShonkyCat? I've been there once and it was great!

Currently I'm in love with Persian food, Sabrina Ghayour's cookbooks are responsible for this but I keep wanting to get others! I do love Indian food, but DH isn't keen on the spices used for most UK Indian dishes. We have a great Nepalese restaurant near us though, might try and persuade him into it soon... But I'd be sad without Italian/French meals as well.

I just like food, basically.

shouldistop · 16/04/2021 09:51

Mother India's cafe in Glasgow does Indian tapas and it is amazing. You can't book a table and in normal times there are queues down the street.
Dh and I usually get 5 dishes to share between us, a naan and a rice. I love that you can try a few different things without putting all your eggs in one basket.

felulageller · 16/04/2021 09:57

All those foodmiles!
For ethical reasons I try to limit foods flown in as it's such a huge contribution to climate change.
Why the need when we are blessed with such delicious food on our doorstep?
We have some of the highest quality arable farmland in the world.
For some reason we just don't appreciate it!
Aberdeen Angus beef
Line caught salmon smoked or unsmoked
In season fruit like strawberries and apples
All the best dairy- milk, cream, butter from the best dairy cows in the world.
So many tasty cheeses.
New potatoes.
Cakes!
Scotch lamb
Our native herbs.
What's not to love?
