And no I'm not Indian.

Love it too but tops for me is Cambodian. I adore loc Lac especially. Quick and easy once you have the ingredients in stick.

LemonSwan · 16/04/2021 00:02

It changes everyday but atm its Turkish for the Baklava

PickAChew · 16/04/2021 00:12

@Gregorsgirl

I have only ever had a few Indian takeaways, mostly not great. I'm never sure of what to order and it all tastes a bit blah. I do enjoy a Chinese takeaway, much more reliable. I mean you just can't really dislike peking duck.
Our only half decent Chinese is basically a case of how do you like your onions. It's fresh but bland. The others are truly seedy.

I do find Indian restaurant food a bit samey - they all have a house style and tend to rely on dairy a lot, which I can't deal with. It's a tasty break from cooking, although I have to veer towards the spicier dishes to avoid too much dairy. I prefer a home style curry or street food. Had a takeaway, this evening, which was great quality but hotter than lava. They include loads of bonus sides which are always the best bit of the meal. And do the best naan I've ever tasted.

Italian is almost all carbs and dairy. I feel ill looking at a menu. Yes, there is Italian which is nothing of the sort but that's just plain cooking to me and doesn't seem to feature in takeaway menus.

TheBullfinch · 16/04/2021 00:17

Nope. Too spicy and smelly.

Italian or French for me.

MarkRuffaloCrumble · 16/04/2021 00:24

Yup, best food I’ve had was on holiday in India. So fragrant and flavoursome. Of course garlic makes everything taste amazing so pretty much all the cuisines on this thread are delicious, but my fave is definitely Indian. I had curry as my wedding meal (not Indian) and it’s the one meal I choose if I have a night to myself and want a takeaway. I buy enough for two meals and have the rest for lunch next day.

Lamb methi, butter chicken, pilau rice, Peshawari naan, onion Bhaji, sag aloo. Mmmm.

Yum.

@PickAChew

This is where I document my Indian recipe book shelf. I have a few more as paperbacks on a shallower shelf and some more on order.
I have most of those 😉
ThanksForAllTheFish · 16/04/2021 00:36

Mexican food for me.
I’m vegetarian so it’s all about the beans, veggies and rice for me. I love the Smokey spicy flavours of chipotle sauce and pineapple salsa is one of the best things I have ever tasted.

I do like Indian food too but more of a chapati with sauce sort of person rather than curry and rice. I do also like a good onion bhaji.

Crystalball765 · 16/04/2021 01:09

Pickachew I just brought Curry Nation in a charity shop today as looks interesting. Could you recommend your favs from there?

BigBlueDog · 16/04/2021 01:17

Indian sweets are rubbish ... but Indian curries are amazing.

steff13 · 16/04/2021 01:25

Mexican is the best, followed closely by Italian.

earthyfire · 16/04/2021 01:40

It's my favourite, the spicer the better.

FaceyRomford · 16/04/2021 02:09

Classic French first by a country mile. TBH I very seldom eat Indian.

HelgaDownUnder · 16/04/2021 03:52

The cuisine of the Mediterranean countries rolls into each other and is universally amazing.

Cissyandflora · 16/04/2021 06:09

Thai is fantastic too. Singapore is wonderful for food- Asian food everywhere. And yes, Indian food is wonderful.
I’m not as keen on English food, there’s nothing as delicious in my opinion.

Immunetypegoblin · 16/04/2021 06:12

Indian food is glorious, but my heart will always belong to Arab cuisine. It's not just grilled meats (although those are definitely feast foods); it is wonderful, rich and varied.

Notjustanymum · 16/04/2021 06:18

Gumbo all the way, and I’m not from the US...

SimonJT · 16/04/2021 06:25

I put YABU as most people I know who “love Indian food” aren’t actually eating Indian food.

redcandlelight · 16/04/2021 06:29

yabu -

(some) indian food seems too hot and too heavy on coriander Envy

austrian food however is delicious.

Everyday21 · 16/04/2021 06:29

Yanbu op. Thai is close second.

MaryIsA · 16/04/2021 06:32

Been to India twice and absolutely loved the food. Your average Indian takeaway not so much.

During lockdown a local Indian chef who used to just do private dinner parties staring delivering Thalis with roti, it was amazing.

I love Thai for the freshness and herbs and vegetables. Persian was a revelation as was Georgian food.

Love Italian, french...(but get bored in France after a week and crave some spice).

Japanese food is my favourite.

Chinese food though, even after being there a few times, I’ve just never quite got it. I think I need to go with someone who knows about food.

MinnieMountain · 16/04/2021 06:32

I need to get that Dishoom book. Madhur Jaffrey’s book is my favourite so far.

We had Indian food at our wedding too @MarkRuffaloCrumble.

SpringItIsThen · 16/04/2021 06:33

If you're speaking for everyone then YABU!
If you mean "to you", then why would you be unreasonable? Any food can be the best to you.

And no I'm not Indian.
Does it matter if you are? You can still speak for your country's food as the best. Or, is it because on MN, one should only be self-deprecating about oneself and one's country? Got it!

AbsolutelyPatsy · 16/04/2021 06:36

we had a take away greek recently, we really should have had an indian

ineedaholidayandwine · 16/04/2021 06:38

I agree OP Grin
Closely followed by Chinese and Italian cuisine

Cissyandflora · 16/04/2021 06:40

That sounds a bit snobby. I love Indian food. I’ve travelled around India. Ate a lot there. Cook a lot of it here too.
