How many times do you wear a bra before washing?

AIBU - to wear once only? It’s costing me a fortune in underwear as they wear out/ grey quickly

I switch bras around daily and only wash when they start to smell unclean - probably works out at a wash after every 4 wears or so. I’m not particularly sweaty.

gelatodipistacchio · 15/04/2021 11:17

Barely. I have tiny breasts, no folds to collect sweat (and am not particularly sweaty anyway), and my bras all have their own heavy architecture to create the illusion of breasts, so I fear washing them.

I probably would not admit this IRL Wink

Pomped · 15/04/2021 11:17

This is interesting as I don’t wear the same bra every day. I have 3 or 4 which I wear, different colours and fits so depends what I’m wearing. As a result, some might go 3 or 4 weeks without a wash but I will only have worn it 3 or 4 times. Agree that if it’s a hot and sweaty day it would go straight in the wash that night but underwired / padded ones tend to lose shape and elasticity with too many washes and I tend to want my underwear to last at least a couple of years.

PopsicleHustler · 15/04/2021 11:18

2 days maximum as I am large chested and get quite sweaty under my bazookas. However I do tend to go braless when in doors as am always breastfeeding and hate faffing about with bras when needing to nurse my newborn.

As for bedding as someone said above. Duvet cover changed weekly and bed sheet changed every 4 to 5 days. Clothes worn twice max if still ok. But if am out on public transport there is no way I would wear that again sitting on my sofa or bed after having sat on a dirty bus seat or public bench iyswim.

RosesAndHellebores · 15/04/2021 11:19

2 or 3 days as I'm not v sweaty. It's the reason why I always buy three pairs of pants when I buy a bra. Matching obviously.

Wash at 30° with other pale, silky things. They stay white or pastel.

WilsonMilson · 15/04/2021 11:19

Who the fuck is changing their bra every day? You must go through bras like no tomorrow. I wear mine at least a week.

IndiaMay · 15/04/2021 11:21

Until it smells. I have a fair few bras but am a 28GG and cant afford for them to wear out. I could probably go 6 months without washing one (but wear it maybe once or twice a week in that time)

Sleepisoverrated150 · 15/04/2021 11:21

Probably once or twice a week. I know it’s classed as underwear but i wouldn’t put it in the same bracket as knickers. I only wash them when needed and as they cost a fortune I couldnt afford to buy enough to wear once a day, or I could but spending £500 plus on bras seems crazy.

Mistressinthetulips · 15/04/2021 11:22

Two days but I feel the second day is a bit manky. I would also change whatever layer was next to my skin (vest top, T-shirt) every day. Maybe I'm sweatier than most?

MaryMow22 · 15/04/2021 11:24

@ShirleyPhallus

I take it off after an hour or so and bleach / boil wash at 90 degrees. Anything else is discusting tbh
Same Wink
poppycat10 · 15/04/2021 11:25

A few days.

And for those of you who go uuuggghhhh, read this book: www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B089CP57H6/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_d_asin_title_o04?psc=1&tag=mumsnetforu03-21&ie=UTF8

CleverCatty · 15/04/2021 11:27

I'm sure the recommended time is 2-3 days wear. I used to handwash my bras but then thought life is too short so they go on 30 degrees wash with whites.

MrsCremuel · 15/04/2021 11:29

Wash once every two weeks maybe but I rotate between 4 bras depending on what I’m wearing. Bras are not subject to the same, ahem, trials shall we say that knickers are. If I have got sweaty that day I’ll pop it in the wash immediately though. I have big boobs and my bras are expensive. They last longer this way and I don’t feel unclean.

BertramLacey · 15/04/2021 11:31

2-3 days in winter, maybe less in a hot summer. Sports bras I wash once they're sweaty. I wash them in a laundry bag in the washing machine at 40 degrees and they seem to last years. I'm not concerned if the colour changes, it's just when the elastic starts to go that I think they need replacing.

Yes, they're underwear. They are next to my skin. But then so are my trousers and I don't wash them everyday either.

ImAlrightThanx · 15/04/2021 11:31

Depends on how much I sweat. They aren't touching intimate areas. Knickers are the only "wear once" things in my house.
I need to go bra shopping. I currently only own two.

IsThePopeCatholic · 15/04/2021 11:32

Once or twice a week.

LolaNova · 15/04/2021 11:32

Daily as I’m breastfeeding and they get a bit cheesy Envy

In non-BF times I’d get 2 or 3 days out of them on non-hot days but those days might not be consecutive. Obviously in the summer they might only last a day!

randomer · 15/04/2021 11:34

Couple of weeks.

Ohdofuckofdear · 15/04/2021 11:34

Once,I couldn't imagine wearing it any longer.

But if they're wearing out/going grey OP are you washing them on to high a temperature?

EnglishRain · 15/04/2021 11:35

More like daily atm, but I'm breastfeeding so can end up milky and sweaty pretty easily. Prior to breastfeeding times, I'd happily wear a bra 2-3 times before washing.

StarlightLady · 15/04/2021 11:35

@Plumtree391 😂 🤭 😂

DelurkingAJ · 15/04/2021 11:35

Every day. Hand wash to keep them in decent shape. Last four years or more like that (and at £70 a pop they ought to!).

derxa · 15/04/2021 11:37

A year

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 15/04/2021 11:37

@rookiemere

2-3 days but usually rotating so they have a day off. Sports bras after one use as they are sweaty.
That made me Grin as I started thinking about your bras writing handover notes to each other and planning what to do on their days off, @rookiemere. (I blame lockdown.)
BrilliantBetty · 15/04/2021 11:38

If, like me, you wash after about 3 wears but alternate between bras of different styles / colours. Where do you put the bras that are not clean but not dirty?

I somehow can't put them back in the bra drawer, because they've been warn, so they sit on a chair beside my wardrobe. Is there a tidier solution?
