AIBU - to wear once only? It’s costing me a fortune in underwear as they wear out/ grey quickly

Worn

ElsasFrozenVerucca · 15/04/2021 11:41

Anywhere from 1/2 a day to a week

AgathaAllAlong · 15/04/2021 11:42

Also every week probably, whenever it starts to need a wash.

Sgtmajormummy · 15/04/2021 11:43

Whenever I have a shower so 3 , maybe 4 times a week.

rookiemere · 15/04/2021 11:44

@Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g they're probably talking about all their hard work and how I should really go up a cup size due to lockdown weight gain Grin

Batshitkerazy · 15/04/2021 11:46

2 days wear before washing

PussGirl · 15/04/2021 11:51

I hardly ever wear a bra but if I do then usually twice - I have two pairs of matching knickers to each bra Smile

bendmeoverbackwards · 15/04/2021 11:51

@ShirleyPhallus

I take it off after an hour or so and bleach / boil wash at 90 degrees. Anything else is discusting tbh

Always more than 1 week. Frequent washing knackers them out and is uneccessary and not good for environment.

I wash with soap everyday so I am clean enough.

I don't wear white bras on a daily basis for this specific reason.

Temp023 · 15/04/2021 11:53

You can’t boil bras, they go grey.
They go grey anyway which is why I will wear mine 3 or 4 days before washing. It is not a problem because I wash myself every day!
Incidentally is there any evidence of anyone being seriously ill or even dying because they did not wash their bra?

This. In summer usually every 30-45 minutes because hygiene.
RosesAndHellebores · 15/04/2021 11:53

How many do people have? I have 3/4 black or Navy ones as I tend to wear black/navy/dark colours in winter and 4/5 white/beige/cream ones that I tend to wear in the summer. Obviously a bit of interchange depending on what I'm wearing.

I think a bra lasts about 4/5 years but two/three seem to wear out together. Always buy the same style!

That made me grin as I started thinking about your bras writing handover notes to each other and planning what to do on their days off, @rookiemere. (I blame lockdown.)

And the sports bras being all snooty and like 'we get washed more often than you, we're special'. Tbf I was this weird before lockdown, so I can't blame that.

How many do people have?

Dunno. Quite a few. Not many matching sets but lots of different colours. I sales shop and just pick up previously expensive ones at bargain prices. I don't care if they match my knickers or not and OH doesn't either. or he's too sensible to say if he does

GiveMeTulipsfromAmsterdam · 15/04/2021 12:06

Two times unless sweaty and then change each day. Bodies sweat so need fresh close contact clothing.

Fabpinky · 15/04/2021 12:08

Months

Fabpinky · 15/04/2021 12:11

And when I do wash them I just Chuck them in the bath tub with me and scrub them with shower gel. The get battered in the washing machine

Plumtree391 · 15/04/2021 12:11

@DelurkingAJ

Every day. Hand wash to keep them in decent shape. Last four years or more like that (and at £70 a pop they ought to!).
Gosh that is expensive; I like good underwear but never paid that much. Still if they last a long time they are worth it.

I used to wash mine by hand every night. Now I put in a bag on a delicate cycle.

Plumtree391 · 15/04/2021 12:12

I thought the same :-).

I wash mine about every 5-7 days.
I've never owned a matching set of knickers and bras because, what's the point?
You surely wouldn't wear a matching Top and trousers/skirts would you?

StarlightLady · 15/04/2021 12:21

How many? About 13, ranging from black to red, milti coloured to pastels. I don’t do white or beige.

I always buy 2 pairs of matching knix (different styles where possinle) with a new bra. But l don’t always match. As mentioned earlier, I wash after one wear.

muddyford · 15/04/2021 12:23

I change mine twice a week. I put them in a bra bag from Lakeland and toss it in the washing machine with the ordinary laundry. I shower every morning so the girls are squeaky clean when they get put away for the day.

3Britnee · 15/04/2021 12:26

@PurpleWh1teGreen

Once. It's underwear.

I will happily wear outer clothes two or three times and unlike most Mumsnetters my bedding can be left for up to a fortnight. But would never wear underwear again.

What exactly do you think will happen to you if you wear it more than once Confused
Tistheseason17 · 15/04/2021 12:27

If it passes the sniff test I wear it 👃
