How many times do you wear a bra before washing?

AIBU - to wear once only? It’s costing me a fortune in underwear as they wear out/ grey quickly

Once! Would not occur to me no to.....it's underwear!

QueenPaw · 15/04/2021 09:54

Maybe 5-7 times. They're £45 each and need hand washing!

PolarnOPirate · 15/04/2021 09:56

@PurpleWh1teGreen

Once. It's underwear.

I will happily wear outer clothes two or three times and unlike most Mumsnetters my bedding can be left for up to a fortnight. But would never wear underwear again.

Surely outerwear which is exposed to the world gets dirtier than a bra on clean boobs?
Frickssake · 15/04/2021 09:56

Once or twice then wash in shower/ bath

PolarnOPirate · 15/04/2021 09:56

Granted, sports bras I only wear once. But normal bras, 2-3 times between washes.

Re not getting sweaty in the bra area, What about your back and boobs? Not to mention skin shedding on a tight garment.
I only really sweat when I exercise (not much of a sweater) and I change into a sports bra for that. And I don’t think a couple of days of shed skin is going to cause any damage. I exercise every day so change into a sports bra every evening. My ‘normal’ bras are on for about 9 hours a day.
takealettermsjones · 15/04/2021 09:58

What is this bra washing you speak of?

iglpgl · 15/04/2021 10:06

@Angrypregnantlady

A good few days, maybe even a week, I don't have a set rule, just see if it needs washing. Unless you're a very sweaty person then no clothes (bar knickers) need washing after every wear, it's just a waste of water, energy, and clothing.
This.
Thefaceofboe · 15/04/2021 10:06

I take it off after an hour or so and bleach / boil wash at 90 degrees. Anything else is discusting tbh

This.

eaglejulesk · 15/04/2021 10:08

I wear it for a week - and it never smells (but then I use a very good deodorant)

SwedishK · 15/04/2021 10:10

Agree with @Angrypregnantlady. I don't sweat much and I hate wasting water and polluting water, so maybe get 5-7 wears out of a bra. If I'm exercising I wear a sports bra and they get washed after every use since they will be soaked.

Ok - opinion seems split but it seems increasing wears isn’t met with universal disgust!

A whole hour?

Vile.

I change mine every 15 minutes and give my breasts a vigourous rub down with dettol and sandpaper.

Bibidy · 15/04/2021 10:14

Probably about 5 days, unless it's got sweaty.

StarlightLady · 15/04/2021 10:14

Once only then it goes in the wash. The band sits under your armpit and the cups tight on your boobs. Says it all, in my book.

I always wash them in the machine in a delicates bag.

As for them greying, l don’t do white and l don’t do beige. The latter makes my boobs look as if they are made of cardboard. I like my underwear as l like to live my life. In full colour.

You wear it for a whole hour! That's just scuzzy.

You really should set light to it too to properly kill the germs
ILikeTheWineNotTheLabel · 15/04/2021 10:17

Once, but I wear sports bras so they are easy to Chuck in with the wash.

On the odd occasion I wear wired ones though. I handwash those and I generally do a small batch of hand washing once a week. If I’ve only had an underwired one on for a couple of hours or so I might wear it again for a short time before the next hand wash, but not if I wore it for a whole day or needed to wear it for a whole day.

gollymissdolly · 15/04/2021 10:17

2-3 days unless it's been very hot and I feel I've been sweating a lot.
I wear a sports bra for exercise and these get washed after every wear.

CounsellorTroi · 15/04/2021 10:17

A good few days unless it’s hot sweaty weather.

It might not be the same for women with big boobs but mine don't get sweaty.

Skin doesn't really concern me, I'm covered in the stuff, it doesn't smell or itch. I also shake my clothes out in the morning in case there's spiders Grin

rookiemere · 15/04/2021 10:18

2-3 days but usually rotating so they have a day off. Sports bras after one use as they are sweaty.

3JsMa · 15/04/2021 10:18

Never.
They are so saggy now that I just tuck them in my high waist pants. No need for a bra.

doctorhamster · 15/04/2021 10:18

Usually get 3 days wear out of a bra. If we have a boiling hot summers day I'll wash after one wear.
