How many times do you wear a bra before washing?

AIBU - to wear once only? It’s costing me a fortune in underwear as they wear out/ grey quickly

Too many 😂 I wash a sports bra every time because it’s sweaty but I definitely don’t wash my other bras every time....or maybe not even every week 👀😂

I didn’t know bras being smelly was a thing so all I can commit to is before they smell 😂 also everyone comparing a bra to pants/socks Im interested to know what the hell is going on with your boobs?? 😧

woodhill · 18/04/2021 12:13

@RampantIvy

I don’t like the thought of hanging dirty clothes up with my clean ones.

Neither do I, so I don't. I would sling a pair of jeans over the bannister to wear again the next day. Unless you have a very mucky job or have a job that has strict protocols around infection control I don't believe that a pair of jeans, trousers or a skirt needs to be washed after one single wear.

I use a chair in bedroom, works fine or hung on wardrobe door. Never put back in wardrobe
Roominmyhouse · 18/04/2021 12:18

Another every 2/3 wears here. My sports bra only gets washed once a week but it’s only worn for an hour twice/three times a week.I hang my bra on the door handle to ‘air’ it overnight. Bras cost too much to wash too often and it wrecks the elastic. I’m a 34G and don’t really sweat much around the boob unless it’s really really hot.

Frazzled2207 · 18/04/2021 12:20

@cariadlet

Once if I've done enough exercise to get really sweaty. Otherwise they last about a week. Knickers are the only items of clothing that I would automatically change daily.

@GalleryGirl

Up to 2 weeks if I'm going to be brutally honest. Finding bras that fit is a nightmare so I only have 2 and our house currently has no heating so laundry takes 3+ days to dry. That and they just don't get that dirty.
Oh my days! I would move heaven and earth to dry it rather then wear it that long. With all respect that must get smelly on a hot day or after a couple even. Why not use the hairdryer on it?
Iwouldbecomplex · 18/04/2021 12:43

If I've been sweaty I won't wear it again, but otherwise I'll basically wear it until it smells or looks dirty. Same policy for all of my clothes besides knickers and socks which are a one time only wear.

Anda001 · 18/04/2021 14:22

I wash my bras after every wash...but I have a confession I have 30 bras and 41 pairs of knickers. I had a thing about buying underwear a while ago...😊

StarlightLady · 18/04/2021 16:06

May l tweak this question please?

From my experience, few men do, but if you had a male partner, who wore a vest, hiw often would you expect them to change?

Take into account here, that a vest is a much looser fit than a bra.

BertramLacey · 19/04/2021 09:11

if you had a male partner, who wore a vest, hiw often would you expect them to change?

I think the more interesting question is, would men be having a similar conversation to this one? Would they be comparing how often they washed their vests? Would they be calling each other skanky and unhygienic if they didn't change them every day? Would they be worried that another man would notice they'd worn the same vest two days in a row and be judging them for it? (And I know a recent PP was actually concerned about her outwear, but another PP was genuinely concerned people would notice her bras).

It seems to me that this need not to encroach on others by, horror, smelling, and this competitive hygiene is just another way women are socialised not to take up space and to be preoccupied with minor things, rather than dealing with major things.

SunshineCake · 19/04/2021 16:05

I'm not dirty or smelly but change my bra every day. It is underwear. It never crossed my mind to wear it twice. Someone I used to know would turn hers inside out for a second wear Confused.

It isn't in the same category as pants though.
StarlightLady · 19/04/2021 16:59

Doing the clasp up could be a little tricky. Not to mention dig in! What about the seams? 🧐

Blondeshavemorefun · 19/04/2021 17:17

Once

I have clean knickers and bra daily

DangerNature · 22/04/2021 09:55

I like to wear matching underwear (unless on my period then have special pants for that and also tend to swap between sports bras as my boobs kill).

So I change it every day otherwise I’d be throwing that off. If I didn’t wash it after one wear it would either be put it back in the drawer (which I wouldn’t do) or leave lying around for a week which would build up to multiple bras and just look messy. Much easier for me to just throw in the wash.

BertramLacey · 22/04/2021 12:46

If I buy matching sets, I go for the ones that sell bras and knickers separately, with knickers sold in pairs. The fact that matching knickers are sold in pairs does suggest manufacturers expect you to wear bras for two days and knickers for one.

I have huge boobs and a tiny back so only shop at underwear shops as opposed to supermarkets and it’s very rare I’ve seen the likes of bravissimo, curvy kate etc selling multi packs of knickers particularly in any of the ‘nicer’ less plain styles.
BertramLacey · 22/04/2021 14:55

@DangerNature I've never bought underwear in a supermarket. I quite often get stuff from La Redoute, who sell very nice knickers in pairs.

Eyevorbig0ne · 22/04/2021 14:56

Loads

DangerNature · 22/04/2021 16:12

@BertramLacey just had a quick look and yeah I see the multipacks but similar to the multipacks you can get in supermarkets, although I imagine better quality. As I said all of the ‘nicer’ underwear you get from actual lingerie stores doesn’t come in multipacks.

DangerNature · 22/04/2021 16:14

Also I put ‘nicer’ in quotation marks because a lot of those are quite plain. The more expensive and therefore ‘nicer’ underwear in lingerie stores tends to be a specific lace or print with no multipack knickers available to match. Not because I’m not saying you don’t wear nice underwear.

alwaySun · 22/04/2021 16:25

@ShirleyPhallus

I take it off after an hour or so and bleach / boil wash at 90 degrees. Anything else is discusting tbh
I wonder How many bras do you use in one day? Hmm
alwaySun · 22/04/2021 16:28

I change mine every 15 minutes and give my breasts a vigourous rub down with dettol and sandpap
😂

alwaySun · 22/04/2021 16:30

@Ellenthegenerous

carry on you clearly are not doing enough, you filthy discusting slattern. I change mine every 5 mins and then shower top to toe in bleach. I then put a new bra on fresh from the packet.
Only a bra?

Not necessarily.

Pants get stained or worn out or lost at a faster pace than bras, and some people change them twice a day.

StarlightLady · 22/04/2021 17:52

@PerveenMistry - exactly. Plus, I’ve never seen matching knickers which match bras come in packs of 2.

l always buy 2 single matching pairs with each new bra, because l have a shower after work (and before) and don’t want to put dirty things back on.

But if you find yours are getting lost you must have been to some wild parties 😂
