AIBU to hate working?

Started a new job two weeks ago. Perfect hours for me. Lovely people. Great location. Basically my perfect job. But I still hate it.

I hated my old job. The one before it and the one before it. In fact, I've hated every job I've ever had. And despite the fact that this is the best one I've had and it's perfect for me, I still hate it.

I'd much rather just be at home. I also have a problem with authority and being told what to do. An attitude that basically isn't compatible with being an employee! I hate knowing that on the days I work I have to stick to a routine and get up at a certain time, etc. I hate having any obligations or plans. I can't explain it but the routine that comes with being employed upsets me.

Should add I'm on ADs for anxiety after a breakdown last year. Also have a three year old.

I think I must just hate working, no matter what I do.

Me too, with the addition to wanting variety in my life.
I couldn't get up at the same time, same commute, same people, same job with only small differences.
Life's too short and for living.
Is there something you can do self employed, be your own boss and then you don't have to answer to anyone, and your life can have as much variety as you like.

crimsonlake · 15/04/2021 17:33

Same here, hate authority but on the surface very compliant, I should be my own boss but a bit late in life for that now.

HelloMissus · 15/04/2021 17:34

I hate being employed.
However, I don’t hate work. I run my own company and I’ve never been so happy or made as much money.

Umbivalent · 15/04/2021 17:36

You can change your attitude.

MissMarplesGoddaughter · 15/04/2021 17:46

I hated work too.

All those endless pointless meetings, nodding and smiling and agreeing with the boss......
Having to manage people who used every excuse under the sun not to work. Then having endless work in progress and action planning meetings with them.....
Writing policies and procedures on every aspect of the work and then updating them annually.....
Dealing with all the complaints and problems....

Going home every night feeling just sucked dry......

The only thing that kept me going was planning my escape and marking every day off the calendar.

doctorhamster · 15/04/2021 18:10

I completely relate op. I loved the 13 years I spent as a sahm. I'm working full time now and I loathe it. We don't even need the money but I do need the pension.

LunaLula83 · 15/04/2021 18:16

I hate working too. I love to be home, running around doing chores, popping in on people, im very sociable and love to organise my own time. Now im working from home cooking and people come to me to pick up their orders. I'm so happy

WorkPhobic · 15/04/2021 18:19

I'm only 25 so I've got a long long time of working still. I like writing stories and I'm actually currently trying to write a book but don't feel like I can give up my job yet. It'll put too much of a strain on finances.

absolutely hate working too!
i think it is the routine and the feeling of Having no choice- I felt the same in highschool too. after leaving school I had many jobs and many courses that I quit because I couldn't handle being there 5 days a week. it's only since having children and working part time I can handle it. still hate it but I can tolerate it. people and routines exhaust me.

HelloMissus · 15/04/2021 18:27

OP I’m a novelist turned screen writer who now owns my own production company (TV).

W1ndSwept · 15/04/2021 18:50

I was taught to "take pride" in every job & that is what I've tried to do. I've been employed in lots of different types of job & had multiple jobs at the same time

I'm financially independent

I could not afford to live by working only 10 hours a week !

I am not a "stay at home" person & my job provides me with greater choices for hobbies & travel

However, I hope to retire before state pension age & I have put things in place to do this.

I do sympathise with people that do jobs that they don't enjoy

Jesus OP as we say in Ireland "you're still a baby!" Age 25 with 10 hours a week. And you say you hate work...you've hardly done any work to hate Confused

Oh, wow! That's amazing. Screen writing is a complete dream of mine. I always said, one day, I'd send my script off to the BBC. Most of my inspirations are screen writers. Very envious!

I know, I know! I have been working for eight years though. And haven't enjoyed a single day. And doubt I ever will.

@ThatOtherPoster

Could you have ADHD? That often goes along with a hatred of routine and having anxiety. Just a thought.

And possibly you’re just in the wrong job?

I have been the same all my life. I’ve always worked and it’s always been a battle. Even now I have the job I aimed for, and a job I’m good at and suits me completely, I still resent it and have to force myself to do it.

I was diagnosed with ADHD two months ago.

W1ndSwept · 15/04/2021 19:46

10 hours a week
I work 12 hour shifts

Right, and your point is?

I was like this op, now I work for myself and I much prefer it! I’m very motivated but LOVE planning my own life. I come and go as I please and control my hours totally. I highly recommend it!

Well...with that attitude...no Hmm

grapewine · 15/04/2021 19:59

To be honest, you're lucky only having to work two days a week. Would that still cut it if you went self-employed? If so, that's what I'd suggest.

OverTheRubicon · 15/04/2021 20:02

I wrote earlier to say I sympathise, but actually, if you're 25 years old and doing 10 hours a week and have for 8 years, then you're barely working enough to hate it. Many people have to commute as long or longer than you actually work for. What do you do with the rest of your time, is there a big unspoken time use that makes 10 hours so onerous?

W1ndSwept · 15/04/2021 20:04

10 hours a week doesn't pay the bills unless you are a millionaire !

You think self-employment is a viable alternative for a 25 year old who gets triggered by being told what to do for 10 hours a week in a salaried role?
Arrierttyclock · 15/04/2021 20:13

Urgh I hate it as well. I'm pregnant with my first and have absolutely no plans fo go back- I'll keep my options open in case I really want too and in that case I'll pay the mat leave back but I can't wait to get out of a place where I'm treated like a child day in day out

I've only just started doing 10 hours. This is my fourth job. The three prior were all 42.5 hours a week. I'm only doing the ten hours now because I have a three year old to look after and as per my OP, I had a breakdown last summer and I claimed ESA afterwards.
