To Think Other Customers Should Let You Go Before Them If You Only Have Say One Item?
EternalOptimist7 · 11/04/2021 13:30
Quite often people do & I will myself, especially if I’ve got a big trolleyful, and I find it annoying if people don’t. A woman in Aldi this morning saw that I only had some microwave steam bags but never budged!
Am I being unreasonable?

Yes it's nice if they do but I don't think you can go around expecting it and get annoyed if they don't.
Who knows? That person who has just one item may hold up the queue if, say, there was no barcode on the item; or they started fishing around in their bag for coupons or loose change to pay for it and then I would hastily regret my kind action

I usually do, but on some occasions three or four people with one or two items have turned up, each one just as I was about to put my stuff through, so I’ve given up and put my stuff through after the third one as I’d been there a while! The fourth person probably thought I wasn’t selfish!

It’s nice if someone does let someone go in front if they only have 1 or 2 items but they don’t have to.
I lined up for 25 minutes the other day with 3 items while 2 people in front of me had a trolley full each, yes it would have been great if they had let me go in front but they didn’t...it was fine I survived and lived to tell the tale

If someone allows you to go ahead it is done as a courtesy, they are not obliged to.
If I have a full trolley, I have just started unloading it on the checkout as the person in front has finished and someone comes up with a couple of items/small basket then I will offer to let them go ahead since it won't hold me up and actually gives me more time to unload and organise my shopping.
If however I'm pretty much done and just waiting for the person in front to move from the end of the till then you will have to wait like everyone else, especially if there are self scan machines that are empty - if you're in that much of a rush then you can use the self scan machine, if you don't want to do that then you will have to wait in a queue like everyone else.

I'll let one or two people with only the odd item ahead of me in the queue. But when the third person comes up I won't let them ahead of me as I figure I've been generous enough. They tend to glare at me and probably think me rude.
You've no idea what else went on before you got there.

@Honeyroar
That's me too! Would be there all day, so I stick to just letting 2 people go through now.
StrawBeretMoose · 11/04/2021 13:44
I usually ask if that's all they've got and if they say yes let them go in front. Just in case their partner comes running along to join them with a full basket!
I don't expect it from others and I wouldn't ask. It's a nice thing for people to offer but you don't know what the person in front of you has got on their shoulders.

I always let someone through if I notice. But sometimes if you're loading up the belt you just don't notice. Or you might even glance at them and they think you've noticed, but your mind is somewhere else. Most people have something going on in their lives that they're stressing about, to a greater or lesser extent. So it's nice if they do but I'm not bothered if they don't.
