To Think Other Customers Should Let You Go Before Them If You Only Have Say One Item?

Quite often people do & I will myself, especially if I’ve got a big trolleyful, and I find it annoying if people don’t. A woman in Aldi this morning saw that I only had some microwave steam bags but never budged!

OP posts:

Am I being unreasonable?

YABVU and entitled

Just queue like everyone else! Your choice to only buy one thing is no one else’s responsibility

CharityDingle · 11/04/2021 15:02

Had someone very miffed with me in Aldi one time, she figured she had 'booked' her space in the queue by having concealed items under the display at the checkout.
She wasn't happy when I said no to her skipping ahead, on the basis of her 'booking'. Hmm

I don't expect anyone to let me go ahead, I thank them very politely if they do. But I don't expect it to happen automatically

Cottonheadedninymuggins · 11/04/2021 15:03

I used to do it when I used the tills (or still do if I go in Iceland for the odd bit) but now I use scan and go in the various supermarkets there's not really been the need.

Usually letting them go ahead of me was helpful s it gave me longer to get my stuff on the till belt.

ShadierThanaPalmTree · 11/04/2021 15:10

I can't say that I've ever noticed what the person behind me is buying or doing. Most people just go about their own business, especially if in a rush.

SmashedAvocado · 11/04/2021 15:10
  • Not surprised you weren't allowed to JUMP THE QUEUE, you are a very, very rude little girl, with no manners.
I really hope you don't have children as the world needs less rude fuckers like you NOT MORE.*

Totally agree with this. Why do you think you’re more important than anyone else that they should think your time is more important than theirs when they’ve already been queuing?

I’ve done this before but then you get people faffing with getting money out, counting out change, maybe there’s a price issue that means another staff member needs to be called over, faffing with putting it in a bag and instead of it taking an extra minute it takes 3.

Just wait your turn like everyone else.

@Ellmau

I never understand people who buy 1 item at a big supermarket with long queues like Aldi

Maybe they live next door to Aldi, or are passing on their way somewhere, or have just done a big shop and put everything in their car and suddenly remember they've forgotten a vital item and popped back in.

In which case they are unlikely to be in a massive rush anyway.
islockdownoveryet · 11/04/2021 15:16

I do it if they have a few bits and I have a big trolley full but sometimes I’ve let 2+ people go in front and then the 3rd person comes along with just milk and bread and I’m like I have to draw the line or I’ll be here all day . I find this if I go to Aldi especially so that’s why I prefer Asda to scan & shop and never a queue to pay .

EternalOptimist7 · 11/04/2021 15:22

I am NOT ableist! I put this on because I was a bit miffed that’s all. Will ask for the whole damn thread to be deleted.

Mumsnet can you delete this thread please? Wish I’d never started it

TeachesOfPeaches · 11/04/2021 15:24

Don't go to Aldi to buy one item

Winterwarrior · 11/04/2021 15:25

I sometimes let people go first if they only have a few things, but recently I had a very arrogant man charge in with his coffee. I had a massive trolley and my kids with me. Including my small baby. I had already spent 10 minutes queuing at that stage. He was all “ its just a coffee Darlin , I’ll only be a Minute” Hmm and before I could say anything he had pushed past me and was at the till. So in answer to your question- I don’t think anyone should just presume that they are entitled to go first because they only have one thing.

EternalOptimist7 · 11/04/2021 15:25

I have reported the thread.

gottenhaitch · 11/04/2021 15:26

This didn't go the way you wanted it do did it OP

EternalOptimist7 · 11/04/2021 15:27

I think some people have gone over the top tbh.

LadyDanburysCane · 11/04/2021 15:27

I often do let people go ahead of me but sometimes it bites you. I let a chap with a pint of milk go ahead of me at the co op. He then started choosing scratch cards, asked for some cigarettes but they didn’t have any stock of his brand so there were decisions to be made then he had trouble finding his ID..... my basket full would have been quicker!

EternalOptimist7 · 11/04/2021 15:34

Very rude with no manners?! I didn’t just jump the queue!

OP posts:
MadeOfStarStuff · 11/04/2021 15:36

I hope MN don’t delete the thread just because you’re having a strop that most people don’t ageee with you, that’s ridiculous and childish

LadyDanburysCane · 11/04/2021 15:36

@EternalOptimist7

I have reported the thread.

Because people don’t agree with you? Seriously?
Stovetopespresso · 11/04/2021 15:37

of course they should let you through! we all should be politer to each other imo, the world would be a better place! you carry on OP you sound lovely and I will make sure I do the same when I can.
thanks for the post Flowers

OrangeRug · 11/04/2021 15:38

I think it's nice if people do it but I certainly don't expect it.

EternalOptimist7 · 11/04/2021 15:39

I’ve reported it because I just wish I’d never started it or maybe posted on chat instead. There’s disagreeing & then there’s accusing me of having no manners, being entitled & the cherry on the cake ableist!

OP posts:
OrangeRug · 11/04/2021 15:39

OP people will argue about anything and everything on mumsnet.

EternalOptimist7 · 11/04/2021 15:40

Oh & add childish & ridiculous to the list

OP posts:
ChardonnaysPetDragon · 11/04/2021 15:40

Threatening to smash OP's legs was over the top, TBF.

EternalOptimist7 · 11/04/2021 15:43
