Will you be spending 3 hours queuing to get into IKEA and another 2 hours trying to pay?

I'm desperate for some fabric so Dunelm or John Lewis for me

I am going to wait a week until my children are back at school however want to go primark to get some basic tops and some trainers.

peak2021 · 11/04/2021 10:30

@theneverendinglaundry I wonder if charity shops will all re-open as yet, given how much they rely on volunteers to staff them.

Please avoid Primark if you can. No-one should need to go there, fast fashion is the second largest cause of climate change.

Pyewackect · 11/04/2021 10:31

@insancerre

I won’t be in any shops as I’m working I’ve not really missed shops
Me too. Same goes for restaurants and pubs. I won’t be beating a path to their door any time soon.
singsingbluesilver · 11/04/2021 10:31

The shops will be packed tomorrow so not a chance. I can wait a bit longer. I wonder if the supermarkets might be quiet as people drift away to the other shops? Poor old Debenhams will probably be rammed as people try to bag deals in there - but I already bought online from them. Debenhams going is the absolute death knell for out High Street - there really is nothing else left to go into town for now.

I apreciate that some people may be desperate for some things and need to shop, but I just don't see it as a fun activity. But I suppose there will be whole families wandering around shops. Nit for me, but each to their own. At least it will leave the footpaths a little quieter and I can enjoy walking in a bit more peace and quiet.

Mumoblue · 11/04/2021 10:31

Not going out until Friday but the first place I will be going is Clark’s to get my son some shoes. He’s walking now and only has soft baby shoes, which are almost too small for him.
Can’t come soon enough! He’s currently obsessed with wearing his shoes so I keep having to hide them because I don’t want him wearing shoes that are too small.
I couldn’t figure out baby sizes so I’ll be glad to get his feet measured.

0nlyMe · 11/04/2021 10:32

I have a haircut booked for myself and dd.
I really want to go primark so I can get some new pjs in a bigger size. I have a c-section booked in a few days, but I can’t bear the thought of waiting in a queue. Not to mention I physically couldn’t stand for long, so I doubt I will go tmrw.
Excited about taking my car to get washed as well! Grin

CeeJay81 · 11/04/2021 10:32

It's going to be a week or so before I have a chance to go to the closest proper town(18 miles away). only have a small selection of mostly independent shops where I live, but I'll be going for a wonder down our weekly market on Wednesday, there's usually dozens of stalls, atm there is about 5. I'm in Wales and we are opening up to England now too. I work in an essential shop, so it'll be interesting to see how much busier we get.

LadyIsabellaWrotham · 11/04/2021 10:33

Might scoot up to local charity shop during lunch break walk - there’s an old film I fancy watching with the DC and I’d rather spend a quid on a charity shop DVD than three quid fifty on Amazon Prime.

Catswithflamingos · 11/04/2021 10:34

Charity shops!

ilovesooty · 11/04/2021 10:34

None. Working in the morning and at support bubble for her birthday in the afternoon. The likely crowds don't appeal either.

8bitgame · 11/04/2021 10:35

None. I'll be working and have zero desire to go to any shops especially tomorrow when they will likely be rammed. I have no desire to contribute to cases going back up or to wade through COVID soup just to buy something I could get on line if I needed it.

Laquila · 11/04/2021 10:35

You guess entirely correctly, @Neonprint!

LadyIsabellaWrotham · 11/04/2021 10:35

Primark queue is going to be horrendous but I fancy trying their MN fave sports socks, and getting some cheap T shirts for DS so I might try the Tooting branch first thing one morning.

raskolnikova · 11/04/2021 10:35

I live in a small town, the most exciting shop is a second-hand children's shop which I like to browse around. Looking forward to that. I imagine a lot of parents have a lockdown's worth of clothes and toys they are ready to donate now too.

BunnyRuddington · 11/04/2021 10:36

Beauty Salon had it booked for weeks. Super shallow meGrin

Ellieboolou33 · 11/04/2021 10:36

Next to get a refund on a tracksuit my husband brought me for Christmas- 3 sizes too small and I don't wear tracksuits!

LadyIsabellaWrotham · 11/04/2021 10:38

And John Lewis changing rooms will be open. Hallefuckinglujah.

Echobelly · 11/04/2021 10:38

I might pop into Topps to return a pack of tiles I didn't need, but that's it.

We need some stuff from Ikea, but we'll be giving it a wide berth for the next few weeks!

SnowAllSpring · 11/04/2021 10:40

None. I don't give a toss about shopping and going to IKEA or Dunelm is my idea of a punishment, not a treat.

CeeJay81 · 11/04/2021 10:41

@raskolnikova sounds like where I live lol. We have 3 charity shops I almost forgot about. Last time they didn't open until much later, I'm hoping they are open tomorrow. I bet everyone will be racing down there with all their old clothes etc, me included, house is full of stuff to donate.

Shinyletsbebadguys · 11/04/2021 10:41

In a somewhat unsubtle hint from the universe after nearly a year if being unable to work i start my new job tomorrow. Possibly an unsubtle hint that just because more money is on the horizon to go a bit careful Grin

Although I will have to go next weekend , the amount of ankle showing under ds1 trousers has rapidly increased from " Meh its lockdown" to

" Scruffy ragamuffin" raised ayebrow level at my rubbish mothering.

He will have to claim they are a new form of shorts for a week.

Vates · 11/04/2021 10:42

None as it will be very busy. I never enjoyed browsing shops anyway (apart from hmv when they were still around). I am very much get in, get stuff and get out when it comes to shopping.

DrMadelineMaxwell · 11/04/2021 10:42

And Wales, op....

It's well timed here as it is the first day back after the easter hols, so I'm back in my classroom for a training day, and dd is back in her school (as our town takes their training days in July on a town celebration day instead). I also expect the shops to be insane and am avoiding them for this week at least.

TookHerForADrinkOnTuesday · 11/04/2021 10:43

I’m getting a pedicure and I am beyond excited!

Waxonwaxoff0 · 11/04/2021 10:44

None tomorrow as I'll be working. I'll be getting my nails done and going to the pub next week though.
