Will you be spending 3 hours queuing to get into IKEA and another 2 hours trying to pay?

I'm desperate for some fabric so Dunelm or John Lewis for me

I'm so desperate to get some shoes. I have really awkward shaped feet and buying online has resulted in 100% returns.
I really need to try shoes on first but I'm a bit hesitant to go just yet because of crowds.
Yes... I'm a tad worried about crowds after all this.

@cerealgamechanger

Are charity shops opening tomorrow?
Yes I think so.
Ineedaduvetday · 12/04/2021 07:14

I do need to go shopping but will wait a week or two until the crowds die down. Heard lots of people are off to Debenhams as they are having a clear out sale, not sure if true but shops will be packed.

Vivana · 12/04/2021 07:30

Shoezone for me

ToffeePennie · 12/04/2021 07:31

None. I need new knickers and kids need shoes, still not going out, it will be madness!

covetingthepreciousthings · 12/04/2021 07:54

@cerealgamechanger

Are charity shops opening tomorrow?
Yes in England they are allowed to reopen. If you are wanting to take donations it's best to phone ahead first to check they're accepting though.
B33Fr33 · 12/04/2021 07:59

I don't need anything as I get everything online. I will be avoiding all the crowds. Every time people flood like lemmings when something opens and I just don't understand what the appeal is! But then I've avoided shops at weekends since I was a teenager!

zigaziga · 12/04/2021 08:02

@rhowton

I'm off for breakfast with my mum followed by shopping followed by lunch followed by more shopping.
Oh all those meals out sound lovely!
Kissthepastrychef · 12/04/2021 08:06

Please avoid Primark if you can. No-one should need to go there, fast fashion is the second largest cause of climate change.
Oh do shut up. Dd has been wearing the same 4 primark T-shirts since last summer and has now outgrown them. Most of her stuff comes from there and it gets plenty of wear thanks very much. I buy a couple of pairs of sandals every summer and wear them constantly. In fact I just got out last years pair and have been wearing them.
Buying from Primark doesn't contribute to climate change, it's constantly buying new clothes - which you can do in any clothes shop.

BarbaraofSeville · 12/04/2021 08:15

I'm now wondering if all the shops are going to be empty because we're all staying away because we think they're going to be rammed?

But isn't everyone going to the pub or the gym anyway?

supadupapupascupa · 12/04/2021 08:28

Hot tubs today. Long wait for delivery so we need to order ASAP. Next in my list is fabric shop but I will wait until the queues have dues down a bit

I think it will be like Christmas, some will decide to wait as the risks today are no different than yesterday and others will go because they can. I suspect their will be huge crowds.

Agreed. I shop at primark occassionally for myself and my kids. I've got tshirts from there that are 3 or 4 years old. Just because they are cheap doesnt mean I throw them away after 1 wear. Having said that I also like buying from fb, charity shops and boot fairs as well.

Blankspace101 · 12/04/2021 08:48

None, just because you can go doesn’t mean you have to go.

fizbosshoes · 12/04/2021 08:50

I need to go today as my DD needs a school uniform item by Wednesday and the supplier website didnt workHmm

TimeFlysWhenYoureHavingRum · 12/04/2021 09:01

None. Working at home all day but having not had a vaccine yet DP and I won't be going anywhere near the shops anyway!

I'm off to the gym after work. Can't wait 😃

Nothing changing here. Dh has Covid so we're in the worst phase of all. Christ I miss my walks in the beach.

BruceAndNosh · 12/04/2021 15:55

Well, I went to Dunelm at 3pm and ....
no queue to get in
quiet inside
Shorter than usual queue to pay.

Although apparently it was busy first thing this morning.

AND they had the fabric I needed!

I went shopping this morning with my dd 7 and 9. There was a massive queue outside Primark and H and M, and the streets were heaving. It wasn't too bad inside the shops we chose to go in, and we got trainers from Skechers, books from Waterstones and school stuff from Marks. Marks was very quiet. We've already lost Debenhams and John Lewis - fear this will close soon too.

I will go back on my own next week when it's a bit quieter!

BarbaraofSeville · 12/04/2021 16:23

Lots of reports of queues for shops on the BBC website. I went out to Morrisons at lunchtime and the pub I passed was rammed with drinkers at the tables outside.

Morrisons seem to think that Covid has partly gone away, because the one way system had disappeared and all the open counters (salad bar, bakery selection and pick n mix sweets) had reappeared. Looked quite strange.

LovingBob · 12/04/2021 16:50

Rushden Lakes today.
Went to Next to pick something up, not too busy, no queue even though there was quite a bit of sale stuff. Large queue for Primark though, this was 2 o'clock this afternoon. M&S very quiet apart from foodhall but tbf M&S has been open all along and has been easy to buy clothes and household goods from like the supermarkets. I could see people sat outside at the cafes by the lake, bet that was chilly.

alltoomuchrightnow · 12/04/2021 18:14

going back to the chazzas was bliss and I left a carful of donations too
I bought a BNWT Missoni poncho for £7.99! (yes real.. get a lot of good stuff in this particular shop... about 45 minutes from Bicester Village)

Pottedpalm · 12/04/2021 18:21

No queues this afternoon; went to Waterstones, Cotswold Company, browsed a few clothes shops but to chilly to bother trying on. A few shops not open until tomorrow. M&S food quieter than usual too.
We don’t have Primark, thank goodness.

BlowDryRat · 12/04/2021 18:31

I've just got back from a trip to Clarks and Waterstones. Clarks had no school shoes in DD's size but they measured her feet so I could order some online. Waterstones had a few people in there and the DC were able to have a good browse before buying.
