At a risk of being sent to the Tower, whilst I think it is sad that Prince Philip has died, am I alone in being amazed at the constant repetitive TV about his life.
It’s just going over snd over same old stuff. And I’d like to watch some normal TV !

IABU - YES
IANBU - NO

I think bbc running it simultaneously on 3 channels, all of which are freely available, is too much. Fine when news broke but not all evening.

LindainLockdown · 09/04/2021 19:44

As it was exceptionally easy to do I have also registered my dissatisfaction with the BBC as shown above, but ITV are just as bad.

Famproblems1 · 09/04/2021 19:45

Agreed, I was looking forward to eastender.

Still I'm glad channel 4 didn't jump on the bandwagon and cancel Hollyoaks.

ICantBeDoingWithThis · 09/04/2021 19:45

@Stellaris22

I doubt the BBC are showing an accurate portrayal of him anyone.

Definitely won't be airing the time he told a woman who lost two sons in a fire that smoke alarms are a 'damn nuisance'.

Exactly, it’s not an accurate portrayal at all. It’s so OTT and a complete airbrushing of his history.

The last unpleasant incident that sticks in my mind is when he was front row alongside war veterans with other royals stood behind him, all lined to have a photo taken. In a very aggressive manner he barked something like ‘take the fucking photo’ to the photographer. Everyone else looked embarrassed. If he couldn’t hide his anger in that situation, have 2 minutes patience and try not to ruin the event for everyone else, what must he have been like in private with his staff?

LIZS · 09/04/2021 19:46

And bbc4 is off air.

TrickorTreacle · 09/04/2021 19:46

I can understand the non-stop reporting when Princess Diana died, but not with the Duke.

He was no Princess Diana tbh.

Stellaris22 · 09/04/2021 19:46

Well aware it's 'one day' and I can switch to Netflix. But I'd rather there was a concise tribute (like they haven't had these prepared for years anyway) rather than just repeating things.

Why do they need both BBC 1 & 2 showing the same thing? It's stupid and OTT. Not what I pay a license fee for.

MrsJBaptiste · 09/04/2021 19:47

@doctorhamster

It won't interfere with line of duty on Sunday will it???
Mother of God, it better hadn't!
HipHopGirl · 09/04/2021 19:47

FML Gardeners World has been cancelled

flyingtartar · 09/04/2021 19:47

I'm by no means a royalist and think we need to look at alternatives when the Queen goes, but I find it a bit depressing that people are complaining about this - not so much on here, because that's what it's for, but actually complaining to the BBC. That is our national broadcaster and this is a significant national event. He was part of public life for over 70 years and our monarch has lost her husband of that length too. If it can't dominate the airwaves for one day (I'm sure it's just today and funeral we'll get wall to wall coverage) well - what's it all for anyway then?

I don't know - i don't want to watch any more of it but I feel a bit queasy about the idea of people seriously complaining about this.

TheFairyCaravan · 09/04/2021 19:47

People have been moaning because Gogglebox is still going to be aired. I’m quite relieved tbh.

Moulesvinrouge1 · 09/04/2021 19:48

I’m amazed that most people watch enough telly to care in this day and age. I have probably watched ‘live’ tv once in the last year? Most watch streaming services or iplayer as and when I want or need. Am truly shocked people actually tune in to live tv!

ICantBeDoingWithThis · 09/04/2021 19:49

I expect Piers Morgan will be adding his two penneth worth soon and saying what an awesome chap he was. 🙄

randomer · 09/04/2021 19:49

"the dead have many friends"

SpanishImposition · 09/04/2021 19:49

Prince Philip would have been the first person to say this coverage was too much. He undoubtedly sympathises with you all from beyond the grave!

2beesornot2beesthatisthehoney · 09/04/2021 19:50

Totally over the top sane programmes on both bbc channels and no bbc4 . ITV just as bad . Going to add my complaint too.

phodopus · 09/04/2021 19:50

It's only been a few hours. If it's like this tomorrow I might agree with you.

We have more access to entertainment than at any point in history. You have books, music, Youtube, streaming services, the smaller channels continuing normal programming, social media, plenty to do that isn't watching the major channels so I really don't think it's a big deal if coverage is a bit monotonous for a few hours.

WhyDoesItAlways · 09/04/2021 19:50

Wow, I didn't know people still watched TV!

I remember being royally fucked off that BOTH daily showings of neighbours was cancelled when Diana died. I thank my lucky stars every day that streamed TV was invented so I don't have to put up with that's crap.

ICantBeDoingWithThis · 09/04/2021 19:50

I like to watch BBC News 24 and would be interested to know what else is actually happening in the world, Myanmar, the George Floyd trial being 2 of them.
WeekendCEO · 09/04/2021 19:51

I expect Piers Morgan will be adding his two penneth worth soon and saying what an awesome chap he was.

Oh god no. No doubt he will somehow blame Meghan for this too. 🙄

Nanny0gg · 09/04/2021 19:51

@bluebellation

Agreed, I don't see why it has to be on both channels all night. But now the BBC's run by one of Boris's mates, what can you expect.
This would have been decided years ago

As I said, same for Churchill and will be worse when it's the Queen

supermoonrising · 09/04/2021 19:51

Establishment propaganda. Nothing else of importance happened today.

Jumpers268 · 09/04/2021 19:52

It has literally been non stop today. Don't tend to watch TV during the day, but on every flippin' radio station and every 10 minutes a big speech about it. Honestly the dude was almost 100 years old and a bit of a knobhead.

Thatwentbadly · 09/04/2021 19:53

@Clawdy

I'm assuming HIGNFY won't be on? Sad
@Clawdy no, we have to wait until Tuesday for the repeat.
ICantBeDoingWithThis · 09/04/2021 19:53

@WeekendCEO - Exactly, I’m thinking he’ll blame Meghan for Phil’s death, after all everything wrong in the whole world is her doing the way he goes on.
