Repetitive TV about Duke’s Death

At a risk of being sent to the Tower, whilst I think it is sad that Prince Philip has died, am I alone in being amazed at the constant repetitive TV about his life.
It’s just going over snd over same old stuff. And I’d like to watch some normal TV !

IABU - YES
IANBU - NO

@EveWasReframed

There's a double episode of Friday Night Dinner on at 9pm, on Freeview ch 30.
better crack on and make some crimble crumble then
Clawdy · 09/04/2021 18:53

I'm assuming HIGNFY won't be on? Sad

ICantBeDoingWithThis · 09/04/2021 18:53

@RolloTomassi

He's been consort for 70 years! He was always going to get dominant coverage. It's only a day, I don't mind at all. Sure it'll all be much calmer tomorrow.
Sadly it won’t be calmer tomorrow, they will be covering this for days and then it will be non stop arrangements for the funeral, then the funeral itself. It’s far far too much.
Nanny0gg · 09/04/2021 18:54

@ICantBeDoingWithThis

I feel sorry for the Queen and his family but I knew when this day came it would be wall to wall coverage on every news channel and some others for days and weeks. No offence meant but I didn’t like the man, he made many many offensive comments over the years and all we’re generally hearing is what a great bloke he was. IMO he really wasn’t. He had an extremely privileged life (like most of the rest of the royal family I know) and he didn’t seem to have much compassion from what I could see and no sense of being a man of the people. I won’t be watching the news now until he is no longer featuring on it.
He also did quite a bit of good, He was actually popular with those who met him and was (as far as he could be) a man of the people

I'll be sad to miss Gardener's World; I might do some online seed shopping instead...

LondonPainter · 09/04/2021 18:54

@Clawdy No and I was looking forward to a bit of Helen Lewis Sad

Thisisnotreallymyname · 09/04/2021 18:55

There's other bloody channels out there.

I'm sure you can find something

PanamaPattie · 09/04/2021 18:56

I wonder if anyone is watching. It's just a loop of the same news.

ICantBeDoingWithThis · 09/04/2021 18:56

@Nanny0gg - Sadly that’s not what I’ve heard from someone who worked around him. He was said to be very rude and completely out of touch with reality and had no understanding how most ordinary people live.

bluebellation · 09/04/2021 18:57

Agreed, I don't see why it has to be on both channels all night. But now the BBC's run by one of Boris's mates, what can you expect.

Shopliftersoftheworldunite · 09/04/2021 18:57

@Nanny0gg tbf, quite a lot of the country has been at a standstill for the past 13 months - would we even notice?

Strange you should say this. I work as a courier and they've said Monday will be incredibly busy, not far off Christmas volumes. Could the lack of good TV be the reason?!
mogtheexcellent · 09/04/2021 18:58

Think yourselves lucky. When the Queen mum died there was less internet tv and she had the cheek to die just before the wet Easter weekend. It was non stop.

Some of the documentaries are interesting. Hopefully it won't be all weekend.

Susie477 · 09/04/2021 18:58

YANBU.

I obviously sympathise with Queenie & her family, but I’m bored of hearing about the old boy already, and we’ve got at least another week of this public grief-fest to come.

Ginuwine · 09/04/2021 18:59

I am more moved by the death of Earl Simmons (more popularly known as DMX) but there you are.

No I don't think repetitive coverage is an issue. It's one day, and he was a very prominent public figure in the UK.

Cactus1982 · 09/04/2021 18:59

I was just thinking how repetitive it all is. There is very little new footage, it’s been the same stuff on a loop for hours. I suppose lockdown makes it difficult for them to get out and interview people on the streets etc.

kessiebird · 09/04/2021 19:00

My DS and her DP settled down to watch Aintree and they'd recorded three hours of Prince Phileep 🤭 seriously I did like him and its sad. I just said to her it's either 30 days of mourning or watching Netflix...

Stellaris22 · 09/04/2021 19:00

YANBU. And BBC using both 1 & 2 to air the same thing is very annoying. Why does it need to be on both channels?

MoonCatcher · 09/04/2021 19:03

Even Radio 6 is playing sombre music

Operasinger · 09/04/2021 19:03

I must admit, I felt sad when Captain Tom died even though he'd been in the public eye for just a short time. Captain Tom seemed like a nice man, the kind of man everyone wants as a granddad.

On the other hand, I found Prince Philip to be cold and aloof.

AllThatFancyPaintsAsFair · 09/04/2021 19:04

He was 99 yrs old and had a privileged life which I'm seeing on every channel when I put the telly box on. Ffs!

You need a new telly box or to subscribe to some more channels Grin. On mine it's only the few main ones that have the rolling news

Stellaris22 · 09/04/2021 19:04

I doubt the BBC are showing an accurate portrayal of him anyone.

Definitely won't be airing the time he told a woman who lost two sons in a fire that smoke alarms are a 'damn nuisance'.

LesterKnopf · 09/04/2021 19:04

I don't get why they can't put normal programming on iplayer instead and give people the opportunity to watch what they want. It's the masterchef final.......

DynamoKev · 09/04/2021 19:06

YANBU and I dare say he wouldn't have been that keen on this ridiculous festival of news luvvies and live appearances from places where nothing is happening.
