I’m 7 months pregnant and DH and I finally have a girls name we love. It’s pretty unusual and we don’t know a single person with it. It’s something like 900th in popularity. We haven’t told anyone this name.

My friend just got a new puppy last week and posted a picture on Facebook of it announcing this same name! I immediately messaged her and said I was really sorry but that was the name we had chosen for our DD and can she choose something else. She just did the laughing emoji react to my message and then sent back “Haha that’s hilarious we chose the same one! It is a cool name though!”. She didn’t agree to change it, that’s all she said. But I assumed she understood and would do the decent thing.

Anyway today she posted again on Facebook that she had made an Instagram account for this puppy... and the name was still the same!!! What should I message her next? I thought she understood last time and now it’s just awkward to have to say it again

I’m desperate to know the name.

Leprechaunsundays · 08/04/2021 16:49

It’s not that I think people will get them confused!! Of course they won’t. But it’s a name we worked really hard to find and we wanted something unusual. Now it won’t be because the dog has it.

🤣🤣🤣🤣 Hilarious. My sister had a baby girl not long before I was due and called her the name I had picked without knowing. What can you do?!?

VettiyaIruken · 08/04/2021 16:50

You're being daft I'm afraid. Use the name. Nobody cares about the name except you so use the one you love. Other people aren't going to care that a dog also has that name and neither should you.

Hankunamatata · 08/04/2021 16:50

Handing you a grip.

One of my kids has name that's popular for dogs. He loves it as he thinks all dogs are named after him.

NaughtyNell · 08/04/2021 16:50

Jesus christ what a thing to get worked up over Hmm

Homehaircuts · 08/04/2021 16:51

You don't even know the gender? Uabvu to except your friend to choose another name for her dog. She got there first. Annoying for you but it's one of those things hey Hmm

GrandTheftWalrus · 08/04/2021 16:51

So you don't even know if you're having a girl?

I have 2 girls names and 2 boys names picked for this one. I know there is all manners of animals with the same name. Doesn't bother me because its just a name!

No wonder your friend laughed at you.

Totally mental!

Of course not

Dogs are way cuter than kids

Itsokthanks · 08/04/2021 16:51

I would've replied with a laughing emoji too because I'd assume you were joking and not actually expecting me to change my dog's name.

elenacampana · 08/04/2021 16:51

😂

Homehaircuts · 08/04/2021 16:51

MissConductUS · 08/04/2021 16:51

Imagine how all of the women named Alexa felt when Amazon came out with their voice assistant. Yet none of them have been confused with a $30 Echo Dot.

And your daughter won't be sharing, any more that you have to share your name with thousands or millions of other women.

Hankunamatata · 08/04/2021 16:51

You worked really hard to find a name ffs. Handing a bigger grip

KirstenBlest · 08/04/2021 16:51

My cat has a unisex name. Tough shit if you want to use the same name.

Iloveacurry · 08/04/2021 16:51

What’s the name?

SweetToffee · 08/04/2021 16:51

I think Wolfhound is a lovely name for both human and dog 🐶

You don’t own a name.

Mistressinthetulips · 08/04/2021 16:52

It's also not a name you've loved since childhood or anything, you've just come up with it you will come up with another one Smile

elenacampana · 08/04/2021 16:52

I’ve just read your update - you don’t even know you’re a having a girl!

Ohhh OP - behave yourself and good luck with the rest if your pregnancy!

LostArcher · 08/04/2021 16:52

One thing you realise as you get older is that friendships change. There is a distinct likelihood that by the time your kid is five, this person will be in an outer circle of friends or not even in your lives much at all. Your daughter will love the idea of a dog named after them (they are egotistical so will assume it is that way round). Dogs generally get called all sorts of nicknames. Really, this is a fleabite in lifes's rich tapestry - let it go and make fuss of puppy just as you expect fuss of your newborn. My cousin named her daughter the female version of my son's name with the same nickname - they've met once and son can't remember that occasion. Honestly, there are bigger things than this.

GrandTheftWalrus · 08/04/2021 16:53

We won't get to find out the name.

Wolfiefan · 08/04/2021 16:53

@SweetToffee erm the OP can’t have my name. Not unless she lives in a different country. I have an exclusion zone so no other females can be Wolfie in the U.K.

Grin

DrSbaitso · 08/04/2021 16:53

Leave it while she still thinks there's a chance you were joking.

Use the name if you like it. It really is OK.

FOJN · 08/04/2021 16:54

It's a very trivial things to get upset about. You're about to take on the most responsible role of your life and worse things WILL happen, I think you need a little perspective. It will be a non issue if you have a boy so stop worrying about something you can't control and might not happen.

HarrietSchulenberg · 08/04/2021 16:54

Nobody will care. It sounds as if you think she's stolen your intellectual property. I assume the name was already in existence and you haven't made it up from scratch?

When your child starts school there will probably be 2 others in her class with the same name anyway.
