To ask her to change it?

I’m 7 months pregnant and DH and I finally have a girls name we love. It’s pretty unusual and we don’t know a single person with it. It’s something like 900th in popularity. We haven’t told anyone this name.

My friend just got a new puppy last week and posted a picture on Facebook of it announcing this same name! I immediately messaged her and said I was really sorry but that was the name we had chosen for our DD and can she choose something else. She just did the laughing emoji react to my message and then sent back “Haha that’s hilarious we chose the same one! It is a cool name though!”. She didn’t agree to change it, that’s all she said. But I assumed she understood and would do the decent thing.

Anyway today she posted again on Facebook that she had made an Instagram account for this puppy... and the name was still the same!!! What should I message her next? I thought she understood last time and now it’s just awkward to have to say it again

My parents solved the problem by using a crap first name for me. If anyone chose it for their dog, I'd call the RSPCA.

Jesus wept.

If you keep on with this entitled, shitty narrative you won't have to worry about what your friend has called her dog, because you won't be seeing her anymore.

This HAS to be a wind up.

Summerdayshaze · 13/04/2021 00:50

I honestly think it’ll be nice. She can play with pup as they grow up together. It’s a cute coincidence. Two little Bowsers.

Best wishes for the rest of your pregnancy, OP. X

If one of the Kardashians names their baby the same then it will probably become very popular

Or one of the "Instagram influencers" uses your name for their baby or dog or cat or budgie then it might also become popular

I am glad you are going to use it anyway, as she will be your baby and so will be special to you both SmileSmileSmileSmile

Good luck with the rest of your pregnancy SmileSmileSmileSmileSmile

Did you bother to read all the OP's posts? She's already over it.

Well this has given me a chuckle this morning! 😁

@Leprechaunsundays

It’s not that I think people will get them confused!! Of course they won’t. But it’s a name we worked really hard to find and we wanted something unusual. Now it won’t be because the dog has it.
@Leprechaunsundays . . . i guess she also worked extremely hard to find something unusual . . . and to have found the exact name you did means she also deserves to keep it, just like you do !

But honestly, your friend appears nice as her response did not come across as rude or standoff-ish

Talkwhilstyouwalk · 13/04/2021 21:09

To be fair on OP, I'd be secretly annoyed in this situation, especially since I'm not really a dog person . It is an unfortunate coincidence but I'm pleased you are still going to use the name and I'm glad you are over it without too much awkwardness unless dear friend reads this thread. I wish you well with your pregnancy OP, exciting times ahead! X

As well as stealing your child's name, I think her cat stole air from your garden.

Spaceprincess · 13/04/2021 23:29

Is it Balonza?

MakeMathsFun · 13/04/2021 23:55

I think we should all keep guessing and get a prize if first to be right.
My guess is Barbarella.

@Leprechaunsundays

If we have a boy this time we’ll still keep the girls name for next time. I really thought nobody else would pick it as it was so unusual. I feel like now she’s picked it for her dog and even made an Instagram account for the dog, it might become more popular now because other people will have heard of it. So not only has she ruined it for this baby, but also for our next baby in case we don’t have a girl this time,

I actually think she maybe found out somehow even though we never told anyone.

Wow your crazy!

How on earth is the name "ruined"? You sound entitled and young.
AlwaysLatte · 14/04/2021 00:35

If you didn't invent the name then YABU. And I'm sure your child will be genuinely thrilled to share a name with a cool doggy friend.

Enough4me · 15/04/2021 00:35

Jewel?

Harmonypuss · 15/04/2021 03:50

Am I at fault for naming my spaniel after an American TV law enforcement character?
I really like the show and love this character's cheeky demeanor and whilst watching one evening I thought his hair resembled my dog's ears (apart from the colour, character's hair blonde, dog's ears black), I'd never heard the character's name before so thought it would be nice to be the only person whose dog looked round when sitting at the vet's and his name is called (far too many Sam's and Ben's at our practice).
The thing is, my dog is 7 now and even if the powers that be at CBS were to find out I'd "stolen" this name, I think it's a bit too late to do anything about it, although his middle names are Trouble Nuisance Pain and he does answer to those too 🤣🐾

My son has the same name as my friend's cat, I'd chosen the name and where lives in a different part of the country now and had recently rescued a cat that came with that name. It doesn't matter

crossstitchingnana · 15/04/2021 07:35

My eldest has the same name as my brother's cat. Cat was named first. Guess what? This only lasted a few years because the cat, as they do, died. Don't sweat it have the name you want. Your daughter will probably love it if she has a "twin"! 😄

Imouttahere · 15/04/2021 12:10

Your friend hasn't made a stupid decision that she needs to "come to her senses" from. You may not even have a girl to use the name, but use it if you can. My dog is Marley, ndn's eldest dc has same name but different spelling. Try and relax about it. Blame those hormones. I'm sure you'll look back at this and laugh one day
