To ask her to change it?

I’m 7 months pregnant and DH and I finally have a girls name we love. It’s pretty unusual and we don’t know a single person with it. It’s something like 900th in popularity. We haven’t told anyone this name.

My friend just got a new puppy last week and posted a picture on Facebook of it announcing this same name! I immediately messaged her and said I was really sorry but that was the name we had chosen for our DD and can she choose something else. She just did the laughing emoji react to my message and then sent back “Haha that’s hilarious we chose the same one! It is a cool name though!”. She didn’t agree to change it, that’s all she said. But I assumed she understood and would do the decent thing.

Anyway today she posted again on Facebook that she had made an Instagram account for this puppy... and the name was still the same!!! What should I message her next? I thought she understood last time and now it’s just awkward to have to say it again

Must be a slow news day...

boon · 10/04/2021 23:24

Are you for real???!!!

Pinkyavocado · 11/04/2021 00:26

Please don’t message her again she’ll think you’re stark raving bonkers. She obviously thought you were joking, as I did.

I can’t actually believe this post is serious .

Bumshkawahwah · 11/04/2021 01:10

The name I liked for my DD was already the name of my IL’s dog and I hummed and hawed for ages about it. I really loved the name and in the end, went for it anyway. Probably my in-laws thought we were odd, note I couldn’t find another name we liked half as much. We did live on the other side of the world from the dog, which made it easier.

Leprechaunsundays · 11/04/2021 06:29

OMG I am dying that this is in the news Blush I’m worried about my friend seeing and also the rest of our friend group, I’m sure they will figure out it’s about me Blush
I am so glad I did not reveal the name

Nobody will care. It sounds as if you think she's stolen your intellectual property. I assume the name was already in existence and you haven't made it up from scratch?

Does anyone else remember a similar thread where the OP claimed to have made up a name? She claimed someone had stolen it. It was an unusual but not unknown name.

OP

Get a grip, people use names, you may never have a girl.

sanityisamyth · 11/04/2021 07:15

"According to this list the 900th most popular name is Amber"

My Labrador is called Amber and I know of quite a few girls/women called Amber. Definitely not unusual for either species!

Allwokedup · 11/04/2021 07:43

If it’s amber it’s not an unusual name at all! Remember Amber from clueless!?

PeapodBurgundy · 11/04/2021 10:23

I think this may be one of those moment where pregnancy hormones make you slightly crazy, but you don't realise until after the fact. (I did this myself with both pregancies).

I can appreciate this would be frustrating, but your friend shouldn't have to choose another name. Either accept the name will be shared, or choose another. Smile

lockdownalli · 11/04/2021 10:33

Amber?!!!

There were three Ambers in my DDs class Grin

Snausageandmash · 11/04/2021 11:24

This actually made me laugh out loud 😂. Ridiculous.

Ifixfastjets · 11/04/2021 12:41

My guess is Casey.
And you should use it anyway.

JuliaHulia · 11/04/2021 12:45

I think the name is Erica. I totally met s dog caller Erica once and I've only met one human Erica in my life. If it's the name op then I think you should stick to it!

luckylavender · 11/04/2021 13:12

You don't even know you're having a girl. I cannot believe you asked her to change the name. Honestly.

luckylavender · 11/04/2021 13:15

@Leprechaunsundays

This makes no sense

If we have a boy this time we’ll still keep the girls name for next time. I really thought nobody else would pick it as it was so unusual. I feel like now she’s picked it for her dog and even made an Instagram account for the dog, it might become more popular now because other people will have heard of it. So not only has she ruined it for this baby, but also for our next baby in case we don’t have a girl this time,

I actually think she maybe found out somehow even though we never told anyone.

So you have a boy this time say, but she's still ruined it for you..

JuliaHulia · 11/04/2021 13:38

What if you only have boys?! Then she will have changed her dogs name for nothing. Not that she is going to change her dogs name based on her original response....

Leprechaunsundays · 11/04/2021 16:55

It’s not Amber Grin

I couldn’t say the exact number without giving the name away. It’s already been mentioned in one of the lists posted but I don’t think anybody has directly referenced it yet. I’m not going to say what it is!

OP posts:
Talkwhilstyouwalk · 11/04/2021 17:21

Don't blame you OP! You keep that name to yourself. Don't be too mortified about the media attention, you started a good thread Wink

Dee1975 · 11/04/2021 19:49

Why should she change it?

MakeMathsFun · 12/04/2021 09:52

I am curious to know what name you chose. About 18 years ago there was a spate of calling girls names like Mimi, Gigi, Booboo, Fifi, Puppy, Tiger, Tutu, Flossy and Fluffy. While most of these are indeed (nice) female names, as a collective they do fit a certain profile (dare I say it!). Individually they do not, except perhaps for Puppy, Tiger and Fluffy, which do tend to have a canine influence.

Enough4me · 12/04/2021 16:25

Juniper or Crystal?

NCforsafety · 12/04/2021 16:30

Are you actually joking?!?!?

MumofSpud · 12/04/2021 16:36

You really think she a) found out (when you told NO-ONE) and the b) used it out of spite??

In the kindest possible way- your pregnancy hormones are erratically dancing on your common sense!

MumofSpud · 12/04/2021 16:41

@OwlinaTree

Seems OK to me. I've had pets called Simon, Jessica, Sophie, etc, and known people with those names. So what?

Simon! What type of animal was Simon?

I lolled at this too for some reason! Simon the snake?

My son & his girlfriend have a sausage dog called Simon (I would have used Sid)
mumsiedarlingrevolta · 12/04/2021 20:45
