To ask her to change it?

I’m 7 months pregnant and DH and I finally have a girls name we love. It’s pretty unusual and we don’t know a single person with it. It’s something like 900th in popularity. We haven’t told anyone this name.

My friend just got a new puppy last week and posted a picture on Facebook of it announcing this same name! I immediately messaged her and said I was really sorry but that was the name we had chosen for our DD and can she choose something else. She just did the laughing emoji react to my message and then sent back “Haha that’s hilarious we chose the same one! It is a cool name though!”. She didn’t agree to change it, that’s all she said. But I assumed she understood and would do the decent thing.

Anyway today she posted again on Facebook that she had made an Instagram account for this puppy... and the name was still the same!!! What should I message her next? I thought she understood last time and now it’s just awkward to have to say it again

No she's picked it. She didn't know you had already picked it in your head.

That's just the way it goes, it's bad luck for you.

I would probably still use it if I liked it, but the fact you have specified it's the 900th most popular name makes me think you want something unusual.

Back to the drawing board then!

HotToddyColdSauvignon · 08/04/2021 16:44

This has to be a reverse. Otherwise - you’re a PFB to be and need to shush!

Pumperthepumper · 08/04/2021 16:45

She’s not done it to spite you though, she just likes the name.

I’m desperate to know what it is though!

TapeMeasureBlues · 08/04/2021 16:45

Anyway best of luck welcoming your daughter Fido to the world Wink

Mylovelyhorsee · 08/04/2021 16:45

Sure sure. Happy Easter!

KatharinaRosalie · 08/04/2021 16:45

What's the problem? Me and a friend also have a dog and a DD with the same name respectively and nobody has mixed them up yet.

Leprechaunsundays · 08/04/2021 16:45

I’m just really upset because it took us so long to find a name like that and now if we do have a DD (we’re not finding out the gender until birth) she has to share it with a dog!! I just thought being my friend she would respect my wishes

🙄🙄🙄

EveryDayIsADuvetDay · 08/04/2021 16:46

I could DM you the name of my cat - she won't mind sharing if you use that for your baby Grin

Wolfiefan · 08/04/2021 16:47

Then you are truly batshit. Grin

Mumoblue · 08/04/2021 16:47

How often are you gonna hang out with your friend’a dog?

YABU. And I’m speaking as someone who has a name that people often give to their dogs.

No, her dog has to share its name with your DD if you have one.

If anyone is 'copying' it's you.

Stevearnottsbeard · 08/04/2021 16:48

So you don't even know if your having a girl? What happens if she miraculously changes her puppy's name and you end up having a boy, she'd have changed it for no reason!!!

MiddleClassProblem · 08/04/2021 16:48

How many people in your world will know the dog too?
Does it really matter?
I’m sure she shares her name with a whole range of animals in actuality... and other children.

How odd would it be if she now changed the name publicly on fb!?!

jessstan2 · 08/04/2021 16:48

Seems OK to me.
I've had pets called Simon, Jessica, Sophie, etc, and known people with those names. So what?

Mistressinthetulips · 08/04/2021 16:48

I would be put out too Op but no way would I ask her to change! If it helps, I used to have a pet named the same as one of my dcs.

Hang on, so you want her to change it on the off-chance you have a girl?
ilovesooty · 08/04/2021 16:48

I'm not surprised she laughed. Of course she doesn't have to change it.

wellyjellymelly · 08/04/2021 16:48

You don't own the name. She can name her dog whatever she wants. There are bigger problems in the world! Crikey!

Norwaydidnthappen · 08/04/2021 16:48

You don’t know the sex of your baby anyway so if you have a boy, this won’t even be an issue. Also, it’s a dog so it will be dead within 15 years anyway. It’s not like you told her the name and she used it for her baby, it’s a dog.

Shesellsseashellsontheseashore · 08/04/2021 16:49

Sorry, you can't expect your friend to change the name, you don't even know you're having a girl?? So it's 50/50 whether you need the name or not.
My friend had a baby boy 2 months before I did. She announced the name and it was the same name we had chosen. When my son was born (didn't know beforehand) I messaged her to explain our name choice and it was all fine. We are still friends, the boys socialise and the world still turns.

draughtycatflap · 08/04/2021 16:49

Is the name Puppaney-Rae?

MolotovMocktail · 08/04/2021 16:49

Hahaha that’s bonkers. I have met several dogs with my name. I don’t have a monopoly on it!

vodkaredbullgirl · 08/04/2021 16:49

What's the puppy's name?

Oneearringlost · 08/04/2021 16:49

This isnt real. Please reassure me NO ONE could like the OP?. I mean, really???
