Just that, really.

I’d honestly rather trap my tits in the car door. Not a fucking chance!

1Morewineplease · 07/04/2021 19:03

No.
I speak as an older person whose MIL needed care during a long journey through dementia.

Notavegan · 07/04/2021 19:03

No thanks

somuchpainouch · 07/04/2021 19:06

Would I bollocks. Grin

mygenericusername · 07/04/2021 19:06

God no. The other side of the world from my twat off a father in law wouldn’t be far enough though. I’m trying to get him on the first Mars mission. Selling point: there’s no need for any information on engineering, general knowledge or how a house should be run because he knows FUCKING EVERYTHING

PrtScn · 07/04/2021 19:06

My aunt lives in one house, my other aunt is next door and the first aunts daughter lives in the house next door to the other aunt. My sister lived next door to one of my cousins whose parents lived opposite. No drama or problems.

Littlebutload · 07/04/2021 19:06

Oh god, even the thought of it! Definitely not for me, I woudnt even want to live in the same town. We bought a house 80 miles from them and they seemed to be under the impression our house was their city getaway accommodation whenever they fancied, soon put a stop to that.

This needs a Mumsnet diagram.
tinkyywinky · 07/04/2021 19:08

Yes. I get on great with them

StoneofDestiny · 07/04/2021 19:08

Got great in laws. But no way.

Aprilshowersandhail · 07/04/2021 19:08

The same country is too close imo.

DamsonTrousers · 07/04/2021 19:08

I lived with my in laws for a year when we looking for a house to buy. Was supposed to be a couple of months between the end of our tenancy and moving into our own house - then the sale fell through. Ended up staying until we found something else.

We got along fine but I think everyone was ready for us to move out by the end. It helped that they have a large house with a separate living area, so we could maintain some element of independence, but even that had its limits.

Ofallthethings · 07/04/2021 19:09

No, nor my own parents. I think families need a bit of space from each other, regardless of how nice they all may be.

MischiefManagedAlways · 07/04/2021 19:09

Absolutely not. They only live 10 minutes away and that's suffocating enough.

ineedaholidaynow · 07/04/2021 19:10

No, but wouldn't have wanted to live next door to my parents either. My DM does live close to us since DF died (10 minute walk) but she has mobility issues, so can't walk to us.

One PP mentioned an interesting scenario, if you live next to in-laws and you then get divorced, and you stay in the family home, that might get quite awkward

SirPhillipsgroupie · 07/04/2021 19:10

No, that would be hell! So would living that close to mine!

WhySoSensitive · 07/04/2021 19:10

I don’t even want to live in the next county... so no

CloudFormations · 07/04/2021 19:11

I would, because my in laws are amazing and I love them. Would very much depend on the relationship though!

Whammyyammy · 07/04/2021 19:11

No chance.

Mary46 · 07/04/2021 19:11

No. My mam would not get boundaries or space! Think bit distance is healthy.

Spudbyanyothername · 07/04/2021 19:12

Yes and so would DH

MarieIVanArkleStinks · 07/04/2021 19:14

Familiarity breeds contempt.

Totallyworthit · 07/04/2021 19:16

Not a chance.

I know a couple who had PIL move next door to them, they thought it would be great because they did childcare for them 3 x a week anyway. Not sure what happened but they young couple had their house on the market within 12 months to get away from them!

CrimeFiles · 07/04/2021 19:16

No no no no no.

WildfirePonie · 07/04/2021 19:16

No way in hell.
