Inspired by the previous thread.

Where in the UK can you buy a 4 bed, 2 receptions detached house with a garage & garden?

We were all set to put our house on the market last summer to upsize... and then we didn't.

Now there's a huge influx of people from the SE moving here, which has pushed up prices. In a way this is good because our house is worth more but we want to upsize so we would have to take on a larger mortgage than originally planned.

Are there any areas left in the UK where a 4 bed detached is £450k or less?

The Wirral. Easily. Lovely houses. Grammar schools. Countryside. Beaches. Close to Liverpool and Manchester and Chester.

GoToSleepBabyPlease · 05/04/2021 22:53

Loads. You'll need to go to the Midlands or higher though.

SirSamuelVimes · 05/04/2021 22:53

Well, loads of places. But you know that. What are the other criteria? What are you looking for from the area?

Dixiechickonhols · 05/04/2021 22:55

Ribble Valley in Lancashire. Usually near top in best places to live surveys.

Bagelsandbrie · 05/04/2021 22:55

South Norfolk.

Thedogscollar · 05/04/2021 22:56

Most places in the North of England and probably all of Scotland.

FilthyforFirth · 05/04/2021 22:56

Lots of places in Hampshire..

HollowTalk · 05/04/2021 22:56

This one?

SnarkyBag · 05/04/2021 22:56

Northamptonshire and upwards

KerfuffleShuffle · 05/04/2021 22:56

All the lovely parts of Sheffield (bar Whirlow and some parts of Dore and Ecclesall). Fab access to peak District, 2 great theatres, loads of lovely bars and restaurants and fantastic schools of you choose the nice areas, even pretty good schools in less nice areas.

ameliajanes · 05/04/2021 22:57

Most of Wales, Scotland and England except the south east.

PiersMorganBigMLittleOrgan · 05/04/2021 22:57

In the south? Around Swindon.

Ro198 · 05/04/2021 22:57

@FilthyforFirth where in Hampshire? I was looking there previously and struggled to find anything

AnyFucker · 05/04/2021 22:57

North of England apart from hot spots. Easy.

grafittiartist · 05/04/2021 22:57

East Yorkshire

B33Fr33 · 05/04/2021 22:58

Definitely the Midlands. 360k the four bed I'm planning to rent out. Though a small garden but near a nature reserve (near as in you can see it). Midlands is also good for transport links if you need those. But there are other things to consider

KerfuffleShuffle · 05/04/2021 22:58

Nearly all of Lincolnshire (maybe not the old town part of Stamford) which has some lovely towns and villages and still a grammar school system.

PiersMorganBigMLittleOrgan · 05/04/2021 22:58

Norwich as well.

JaceLancs · 05/04/2021 22:58

South Ribble - recently voted one of the best places to live/grow up in

Babdoc · 05/04/2021 22:58

Yup, there’s a modern 4 bed 2 recep, with garage and garden in my village, under offer at the moment for £275k, OP. That’s pretty standard in my part of Scotland. If you didn’t mind a dodgy area, you could get one for quite a bit less than that too.

ludothedog · 05/04/2021 22:59

@Thedogscollar

Most places in the North of England and probably all of Scotland.
ALL of Scotland? Grin it's a big place you know! Some places you will manage to get what you're looking for but certain places in Scotland will be more expensive.
wonkylegs · 05/04/2021 22:59

Rightmove search of 40 mile radius of my house gives over 3000 houses that are 4 bed detached £450k or less
NE/NYorks border

BashfulClam · 05/04/2021 22:59

Scotland

UrsulaBee · 05/04/2021 23:00

North Lancashire.

We’re in a 5 bed detached. In a quiet village over looking the sea and only 30 minutes from the lakes.

We paid just under 400k

KerfuffleShuffle · 05/04/2021 23:01

Peterborough if you want a city with quick commuter links to London - only 50 minutes to kings cross.
