So where can you buy a 4 bed detached for less than £450k?

Inspired by the previous thread.

Where in the UK can you buy a 4 bed, 2 receptions detached house with a garage & garden?

We were all set to put our house on the market last summer to upsize... and then we didn't.

Now there's a huge influx of people from the SE moving here, which has pushed up prices. In a way this is good because our house is worth more but we want to upsize so we would have to take on a larger mortgage than originally planned.

Are there any areas left in the UK where a 4 bed detached is £450k or less?

Staffordshire. It's beautiful, but no one knows about it. Don't tell anyone. About 1.5hrs into Euston, if that is relevant.

Scotland’s a big place! Doubt you will get all of what op requires in Edinburgh for that price.

MichelleScarn WiFi in Scotland? Surely not Grin.

Tbh I was canvassing for ideas.

We live in the Cotswolds now and our family home is worth more than £450k. It was the other thread that got me thinking.

My job is portable, I can get a job. There will be the hassle of interviews, yes, but it would probably do me some good.
That said, I love Wales but I probably

What a silly question!

Pretty much everywhere apart from expensive pockets (central London obviously but there are expensive pockets everywhere).

I live just outside manchester and you'd struggle to get it here. House prices are bonkers and going up all the time.

Yorkshire. Ours is exactly as you describe and has been valued at 300k.

East Mids, we just bought a new build 1600sq ft detached 4 bed house, 2 reception rooms plus study, double garage, driveway for 4 cars, £365,000. You can get something bigger and higher spec going up to £450k, or something similar in one of the more picturesque/naice neighbouring villages and towns (our town is particularly cheap!)

Not a chance where I live, 1 hour north west of central London. I'm interested that many on this thread think it's only London where you can't.

DumpedByText · 05/04/2021 23:22

Flintshire in North Wales, you'd get an amazing house with that money.

orangecinnamon · 05/04/2021 23:22

Parts of South Hampshire, parts of West Sussex coast. Herefordshire, Leicestershire , parts of South Wales. That is only where I know people have bought recently.
There are lots of places . Someone once linked to a website where you put in where you want to be commutable from and it comes up with suitable properties.

The problem is that people will deem certain areas unsuitable for whatever reason. Schools, proximity of social housing , commuting distance whatever. Once you add in whatever you won't compromise on then finding housing naturally becomes an issue.

weenawoo · 05/04/2021 23:23

Lincoln, plenty of 4 beds for much less than that in lovely villages that are under 20 minutes from town

WithASpider · 05/04/2021 23:23

Midlands. Specifically Halesowen. I had a look a couple of days ago and saw a few that need some upgrading for £350k.

Wow! I love it. Back to my Scottish roots, perhaps?
CrazySheepLady · 05/04/2021 23:24

You can do better for less money in the north east. Wynyard is considered pretty exclusive.
