Are you-

  1. Redundant
  2. On furlough/flexi-furlough
  3. Kept your hours and job as it was before the pandemic

Just interested to see. I was made redundant last year. So was DD and a couple of other family members and friends. Been looking for several months and none of us been successful yet but some have had interviews.

OP posts:

Was furloughed right at the start of Lockdown 1 due to uncertainty about covid risks and pregnancy. Unfurloughed for a few months around June 20 but WFH. Correctly on Mat Leave since Oct 20. The rest of my small team has all been on flexi-furlough since Xmas.

septemberismyfavouritemonth · 05/04/2021 19:21

Been wfh since March 2020 but had a 10% pay cut in September and not due to go back up again until July

pudseypie · 05/04/2021 19:35
  1. I am one of the 65,000 retail workers in the UK who have lost their jobs over the last year. My employer went into administration so didn't even get my contractual redundancy or notice pay, just the basic claim from the government.

  1. But I have a new manager who is terrible so looking elsewhere - I'd rather be furloughed than work for her!
Monkeytennis97 · 05/04/2021 19:38
  1. Teacher.
SpiceRat · 05/04/2021 19:41
  1. Twice. I’ve been unlucky.
PeonyRose80 · 05/04/2021 19:47
  1. 🥺 after 20 years!! but managed to get new job with a payrise! start in 2 weeks.
murasaki · 05/04/2021 19:48

Retraining has really benefited my department- I manage the admin for a psychology department, and our conversion course figures have gone through the roof.

Which brings a whole other set of issues, but it's clear a lot of people are looking to change career.

Parker231 · 05/04/2021 19:50

3 - wfh. Looking forward to seeing colleagues in person again although the plans for the future are two days in the office and three days at home.

Auntycorruption · 05/04/2021 19:52
  1. Increased hours and above inflation pay rise. Started WFH March 2020 and no move back planned.

I did do flexi furlough during school closures but that was my choice and left work building up when I went back.

I don't know anyone who has lost their job due to covid.

Babyroobs · 05/04/2021 19:56
  1. Have kept my job and working the same hours although unsure if temporary contract will be renewed due to the charity funding it struggling due to covid.
I am looking for other jobs and have 2 recent interviews both successful.
LondonSE · 05/04/2021 19:59
  1. same hours and WFH
Kitkat151 · 05/04/2021 20:00

WFH for over a year same job same hours

MondeoFan · 05/04/2021 20:00
  1. Second lot of Furlough for me. First time 6 months off work, Second time 3 months off work. Going back next week
BeautifulBirds · 05/04/2021 20:05

Very lucky.

Went back from furlough to full time, should have been part time.
Plus got a promotion.

Very lucky indeed.

thevassal · 05/04/2021 20:06
  1. - kept one job and hours and taken on a second one (contractor type work) because bored not being able to do anything.

I only know one person (out of all friends, family, FB acquaintances, previous coworkers, etc) who have lost their jobs or been on furlough throughout covid, and he is a builder and was only on furlough for the first two months, and carried on doing cash in hand jobs even then. Know people in quite a variety of jobs too. Shows how different different people's experiences are.

therocinante · 05/04/2021 20:08
  1. Very lucky and grateful for it. My DH was made redundant in lockdown 1 and hasn't been able to find a job in his field since.
hibbledibble · 05/04/2021 20:09

3 - increased my hours

I am a doctor so have been in demand. There are downsides in that I was working a gruelling rota over the first peak, and in harrowing, unsafe conditions. Most of my colleagues became sick, many severely so, and some died. We saw horrific things. But we still have jobs.

tiredmum2468 · 05/04/2021 20:18

NHS worker so have worked throughout

However we have lots of friends who've been made redundant in the retail sector or have spent large amounts of time on furlough.

It's been a difficult time for some many people

Worstyear2020 · 05/04/2021 20:19
  1. last year but found another job straight away. Been wfh since first lockdown.
llamaparades · 05/04/2021 20:21
  1. Same hours but small pay rise

Other half lost his job at the start of the first lockdown but now has a new job which he enjoys a lot more and pays 3x his old job did.

Fr0thandBubble · 05/04/2021 20:44

I suppose 4 in that kept job and hours and have been given two Covid-related bonuses. I know how lucky I am though - was on the opposite side of things in the 2008 Credit Crunch and it was awful.

GrasswillbeGreener · 05/04/2021 20:45
  1. Self-employed, part-time music teacher, have lost some students but gained more. Learning that lessons can work online will mean less last-minute absence for transport difficulties and minor illness, more options for making up lessons that need to be missed.

I've also started the process of resurrecting a former career that I'd thought was closed to me, 14 years since I last worked in it and 11 since I let registration lapse. Don't have a job back yet but have a willing mentor in a department that not only expects to have a post for me in some months time, but have said they really want me to be available for it when they do.

Best of all I'll be able, I think, to combine these two fairly different jobs and indeed there could be opportunities to blend them, sort-of, in the future. (memo to self - walk before you run!).

My sister, however, has been furloughed most of the time, with odd bits of work (arts industry). She'll be restarting next month on what sounds like reduced hours, having had to sign a contract with both reduced pay and poorer conditions. I've felt really bad for her.

Gufo · 05/04/2021 20:48

3 - WFH throughout. I've hated it and longed for furlough!
