Are you-

  1. Redundant
  2. On furlough/flexi-furlough
  3. Kept your hours and job as it was before the pandemic

Just interested to see. I was made redundant last year. So was DD and a couple of other family members and friends. Been looking for several months and none of us been successful yet but some have had interviews.

OP posts:
Contactlesslenses · 05/04/2021 16:24

My friends and family are mostly NHS or in teaching, my partner works on the railway. All secure in their jobs, I don’t personally know anyone majorly affected work wise by Covid.

Camomila · 05/04/2021 16:26

3 - kept my job and normal hours, wfh. Same for DH.

TakeYourFinalPosition · 05/04/2021 16:26

3... but I’m self employed and it’s been up and down.

I don’t know anyone who has lost their job yet, but plenty of people who are on furlough still.

DynamoKev · 05/04/2021 16:26

I ran my own limited company before the virus but the combination of Covid and IR35 changes meant my entire workstream dried up and there is still very little on offer.
Lucky for me I was able to get a "permanent" job instead though and can work from home so I have been doing so. So none of your options really.
I've had to close my company down.

Dizzy1234 · 05/04/2021 16:26

Made redundant last summer, non covid related, business closed.
Had 6 weeks off then started work for my old company's biggest customer, I hate it if that helps 😉

Alfiemoon1 · 05/04/2021 16:27

3 was made redundant at the start of the first lockdown got a job 2 weeks later in caring never done it before then got a temporary covid related job which I enjoyed but kept applying for permanent positions got one nearly 6 months ago but don’t really like it but the hours are good and it’s wfh. Dh has worked throughout

SamW98 · 05/04/2021 16:27

This is first time I've ever been unemployed in 30 years since leaving college. The first time I spoke to the DWP to claim UC I actually felt so ashamed that I burst into tears

emilyjeff · 05/04/2021 16:29

3 Had just started a new job early Feb 2020, did about 6 weeks in the office then been wfh ever since

BigPaperBag · 05/04/2021 16:35

Full time permanent in the same job as before lockdown. Just about to move into another full time, permanent job. They are both in the NHS.

Peccary · 05/04/2021 16:37
  1. Busier than ever as work is directly covid related, no furlough in the company bit a shift to WFH or hybrid for non lab staff. DH works from home in critical infrastructure

Sister has been on furlough and only just found out she has a job to go back to on 12th, works for a retailer in administration and closing branches. I know a few others on furlough.

We do not underestimate how fortunate we have been, jobs secure and DD in early years so no home schooling

HalfShrunkMoreToGo · 05/04/2021 16:39

4- Worked throughout, had to take a pay cut during first 6 months of the pandemic while working 100% time to conserve company finances, but have now had a 20% pay rise and in line for a promotion in the next few weeks if things go well

Harpydragon · 05/04/2021 16:39

I lost my job in April last year. Found a part time role a week later that then went on to become a full time role in August. It was supposed to be until January, but when we all had to work from home again in September, the writing was on the wall and I lost that job at the end of October. Found another job 1 week later and remained with that until I started a permanent role in March this year. I have also been parcel sorting at the post office to supplement the wages of the 2 temporary jobs as they were low paid compared to what I was used to. My 2 temporary roles were found through job agencies. I couldn't afford to be proud and turn down work so took what was there. The post office has been a godsend supplementing wages.

It has been really hard. My mental health has suffered and so has my weight! The stress of not knowing how long a job would last for, if I would have any money coming in next week or not has been awful. My husband has been working throughout but he has an illness that means he needs to take time off work and we can't guarantee his full wages every month.

I have applied for 100's of jobs, had about 10 interviews and finally got a full time role. Not a great year all told but we survived.

ConnieCaterpillar70 · 05/04/2021 16:43

DH and I run our own business, but we're literally hanging on by our fingertips while working longer and longer hours to try and get trade in whilst our retail showroom is shut. We face making 8 staff redundant and having to start again from scratch ourselves.

For the first time since this pandemic, we're really starting to panic.

maddiemookins16mum · 05/04/2021 16:43

@DramaAlpaca

3 - exactly as before, still in the office
Same here.
TopBitchoftheWitches · 05/04/2021 16:46
  1. Work in retail.
Hoppinggreen · 05/04/2021 16:50
  1. Got a job during the pandemic due to Freelance work drying up.
Dentistlakes · 05/04/2021 16:51

3 - I work in a field which is quite busy at the moment due to covid

Flappityflippers1 · 05/04/2021 16:53

I got a new job that couldn’t be more perfect, after COVID killed my business that I’d only started 6 months prior. Feel extremely lucky.

My brother has been made redundant however, and know several friends and family members who have been furloughed

Ylvamoon · 05/04/2021 16:53

4 lost my job thanks to covid-19... was lucky enough to find a new one very quickly!
(My notice ended on a Tuesday and I started my new job on a Wednesday!)

wonkylegs · 05/04/2021 16:58

I'm self employed but busier than ever my sector has been booming the past year.
DH has also been busier than ever but he's an acute hospital consultant so not that surprising really.
A relative was made redundant/ fired (depending on who she tells the story to but apparently her employers didn't mean for her to go an work from a foreign beach when she was supposed to be working from home)
Another relative was made redundant (hospitality sector) but has opened up a new business with his partner and although it's been really tough and stressful it's going ok so far.
I know of some redundancies, a couple who have taken early retirement but no one still on furlough out of my immediate friends/family.

Hesma · 05/04/2021 17:00

3 but I teach

Els1e · 05/04/2021 17:01

I was made redundant last year in June. Got another job in July but it’s a 1 year fixed term contract, so I shall be looking again in a few months. Not looking forward to it.

sunflowersandbuttercups · 05/04/2021 17:02

None of the above.

Self-employed. Business has had peaks and troughs since the first lockdown started. It's just starting to pick up again now.

Luckily DH has worked throughout as I wasn't entitled to any government help.

Myexisadick · 05/04/2021 17:04

On furlough for the second time but I’ve found a new job so I’ve resigned. I work in the motor industry

caringcarer · 05/04/2021 17:04

My work has continued as normal. My dd lost job in first wave my dh this third wave. DH earned much more than me. Luckily we have btl income to survive on until DH gets another job.
