Are you-

  1. Redundant
  2. On furlough/flexi-furlough
  3. Kept your hours and job as it was before the pandemic

Just interested to see. I was made redundant last year. So was DD and a couple of other family members and friends. Been looking for several months and none of us been successful yet but some have had interviews.

My redundancy was not COVID related. My company was taken over by a huge US firm in 2018 and they wanted to cut costs by offshoring the majority of the work to India and Romania

I have many friends who are furloughed but they mainly work in either retail or hospitality

Peace43 · 05/04/2021 17:10
  1. Got a new job with better pay
LawnFever · 05/04/2021 17:13

3, kept my job which has changed a bit but never been furloughed and worked throughout all of this from home

DrDreReturns · 05/04/2021 17:13
  1. I don't mean to rub it in but I've been promoted and had a pay rise in the last year. I was furloughed in April and May of last year. My sector ( IT / e-commerce) is really busy.
coogee · 05/04/2021 17:18

Busier than ever. Redundancy is unlikely.

But then I've been busy before but still added to a redundancy shortlist. So, you never know.

Rockbird · 05/04/2021 17:23

Redundant but about to start new job.

BrightBean · 05/04/2021 17:23
  1. Being made redundant. Only person in the whole company going through consultation. Company has exceeded all targets in the last year and they haven't furloughed a single person. I'm in a quite senior position, get paid very well and oh... pregnant and due next month Hmm
LadyCatStark · 05/04/2021 17:23

3 for me and everyone I know.

LemonSherbetFancies · 05/04/2021 17:26

I'm surprised at all these replies. I wonder if it's because Mumsnet is quite middle class as everyone pretty much seems to have done OK.

Yes, I think you're right.

Also, it's the internet - people can say whatever they like. I also think many people don't want to post if things are shit, in case they end up getting loads of unwanted or unhelpful advice!

JensonsAcolyte · 05/04/2021 17:32

Made redundant after first furlough. 0hr contract and never enough hrs so a mixed blessing.

Got a new job on twice the hours/wage. Got promoted (yay). Furloughed again. Back for Xmas. Started an apprenticeship. Furloughed again. So it’s been a mixed bag.

Dh has been wfh the whole way through and got a huge promotion/pay rise (equal to my whole FT wage 😬) in January.

So we’re sat at home feeling like millionaires with no where to go.

We’ve been much luckier than both but my MH has taken a bashing, I’m not good at being at home.

JensonsAcolyte · 05/04/2021 17:32

...luckier than most, not both.

Fuzzywuzzyface · 05/04/2021 17:33

Was in the process of being made redundant, placed on furlough and then formally made redundant. Started a new job a couple of months later.

Animum2 · 05/04/2021 17:37

Working normal hours but the division I work in has been moved to another location up North so I am now WFH training new starters in our new office and at the end of May I will likely be made redundant.

Animum2 · 05/04/2021 17:39

For the past year I have worked on and off from home or the office, DH who works at the same place has WFH since August and has been offered a new role WFH for the same company

Littlechickenlegs · 05/04/2021 17:40

After having to leave my last employer I'm relishing every second of time the severance package has given me. I will be returning to study, also at their expense. Flippancy aside I think this is the perfect opportunity to evaluate your career and decide if you want to go in another direction.

speakout · 05/04/2021 17:41
  1. Self employed and twice as busy during Covid.
Groovee · 05/04/2021 17:42

I started a new role in August. Have worked my hours throughout.

Absolutely. I've used my redundancy package plus savings to take time out to spend supporting my Y11 son and to retrain for a totally different career. I've realised my days of being glued to a desk for 10 hours a day 5 days a week are behind me and I wouldn't have had that opportunity otherwise
Constance11 · 05/04/2021 19:09
  1. but was on furlough for one month last June.
I know a couple of people who have lost their jobs, both architects.
pointythings · 05/04/2021 19:11
  1. Just moved from one full time NHS job into another. Never been busier than since COVID hit.
linerforlife · 05/04/2021 19:13

Business is booming for my OH who owns his own company. I am have been on Mat leave but am returning to same job and the same hours are there if I want them. There have been no redundancies or furlough where I work.

MadeOfStarStuff · 05/04/2021 19:13
  1. Worked throughout but currently at risk of redundancy
Shinyletsbebadguys · 05/04/2021 19:18

Redundant since midway through the first lockdown . Then unable to seek work because DP who had been made redundant got a job working away. Between school closures and the closing of pretty much any childcare options and no friends and family I was stuck.

Started looking a month ago and was offered a role last week which thank goodness is better and more interesting and higher paid.

We have had a hell of a year and things have been truly dark at times. Feels like we are coming out of it. I don't think I've ever been so grateful to work.
