Friend who had IVF is an anti-vaxxer

Aibu here?

My friend who has not long ago had IVF doesn’t want the vaccine because she doesn’t want to ‘put chemicals’ into her body yet she’s been pumped full of hormones and drugs during IVF.

Aibu to really really not understand her position. It makes me think of anyone from the 90’s who did pills (ecstasy) saying the same thing. It’s an utterly bonkers view point!

It's like my friend at work who ensured we all used Fairtrade tea and coffee (good thing too) and then would snort coke all weekend. Definitely not Fairtrade.

Laughingstock91 · 04/04/2021 07:49

@MaLarkinn yes she has. Because I think after everything we have been through in the last year, you would think most decent people would want it to end BY GETTING VACCINATED!!!

notdaddycool · 04/04/2021 07:50

I guess it’s down to risk and reward, if you think your personal covid risk is low I can understand, but not agree, with her thinking. But she’s a loon.

GappyValley · 04/04/2021 07:50

If you had said ‘she spent her 20s taking any old drugs she bought from dodgy blokes in dodgy clubs without a second thought but now won’t take any safe, proven and well-trialled vaccines’ we would all agreed she is mental and clearly not thinking logically.

But instead of dodgy club drugs, you’ve said IVF drugs, like the two are analogous

And that makes you look like the one who doesn’t understand drug safety, not her

MaLarkinn · 04/04/2021 07:50

Vaccinations have always been a choice.

You haven't merely mentioned IVF, you've used it as a stick to beat her with.

ClarkeGriffin · 04/04/2021 07:51

I would ditch her as a friend because of how stupid she is. Simple as that really, plus she doesn't actually care for the lives of her children.

It's very weird that someone who needed ivf to have kids, so struggled to have children, is OK with them dying from meningitis, measles, tb, mumps etc. And if they don't die, they may end up with problems like deafness, loss of limbs etc. It's strange behaviour, being desperate for children, but being OK to gamble with their lives. I'm sure many parents of kids who can't have the vaccines because of other issues who take your hand off if they could protect their children. Then you get idiots like this who think they know better than scientists. Hmm Funny how she was willing to accept science to get her kids.

Very, very stupid person and not one I could be friends with.

Laughingstock91 · 04/04/2021 07:51

@GappyValley nope, because she thinks all vaccines are unsafe. And that’s wrong.

If you don't think your friend is even a decent person then perhaps you need to stop being hypocritical and judgemental and not be friends anymore.

MaLarkinn · 04/04/2021 07:54

Lots of decent people don't want to get vaccinated op.

Are you at the end of your tether with these lockdowns?

GappyValley · 04/04/2021 07:54
@GappyValley nope, because she thinks all vaccines are unsafe. And that’s wrong.
So what have ivf drugs got to do with it then?

The point you’re CLEARLY trying to make in your op is ‘eurgh, her logic doesn’t make any sense. She pumped herself full of those weirdo ivf drugs - what’s even in those anyway?!?!?! But now won’t take any safe vaccine’

You’re back peddling now to try and make it about her not thinking of the greater good, but be honest, that wasn’t your original point.

You’re trying to suggest that by taking something unsafe to get pregnant but not safe now she has children is hypocritical

And that just shows your ignorance around IVF as much as hers around vaccinations

Laughingstock91 · 04/04/2021 08:00

@MaLarkinn I actually believe people have a moral responsibility to get vaccinated. I think most people are fed up with being locked down while not seeing loved ones.

OP posts:
Laughingstock91 · 04/04/2021 08:00

@GappyValley no, I’ve been clear all along that I think my friend has a shit attitude

So I’ll ask you again...

What has that got to do with IVF?

Worldwide2 · 04/04/2021 08:01

I think you need to focus on your own life and stop being so judgemental. It's up to her what she wants to put in her body. Just because she's had one type of medication doesn't mean she's then obliged to have everything else. It's absolutely her choice.
Get over yourself.

Worldwide2 · 04/04/2021 08:04

@lassolarry1980 👏🏻 👏🏻 👏🏻

MaLarkinn · 04/04/2021 08:05

One of my morals is to not judge my friends and their choices so I'm not all bad Grin

I haven't seen my family since all this began either. They live in a different country so I'm hoping and praying vaccines don't become mandatory for travel.

B1rthis · 04/04/2021 08:07

Are you serious?!
Your friend has been trying to be a parent, highly likely to have spent years trying. Ivf means high chance of miscarriage and a long expensive road of heartache.
Your friend is trying to reduce all chances of affecting her pregnancy and if not taking any vaccines until she's stopped breastfeeding is her way, then maybe you should think of why?!
Or even help her with research and support.
Ugh.

Laughingstock91 · 04/04/2021 08:08

@GappyValley because as I said in my OP, IVF involves being injected with synthetic drugs. There really is no difference as it’s still putting ‘stuff’ in your body, which is my friends issue.

OP posts:
Laughingstock91 · 04/04/2021 08:11

@B1rthis oh please! The vaccine is about keeping people alive too. And she isn’t breastfeeding anymore as her non vaccinated kids are 2 & 4.

So you don’t understand IVF drugs then

You’re the one coming out of this thread looking stupid, not your friend.

You said in your op she was ‘pumped full’ of hormones AND drugs
Which drugs do you mean that weren’t hormones?

And how was she ‘pumped full’ because I’ve only known ivf clinics give really tiny (less than a millerite) at a time doses

Laughingstock91 · 04/04/2021 08:11

@Worldwide2 but the problem is her anti vaxx decisions affect the rest of us don’t they?

OP posts:
Laughingstock91 · 04/04/2021 08:14

@GappyValley but it’s still the point isn’t it? My friend has now decided to act like a purist about her body because she’s an anti- vaxxer. It’s still hypocrisy. IVF is still synthetic hormones.

OP posts:
Seriouslymole · 04/04/2021 08:14

I find it interesting that people can’t see the difference between long established drugs (e.g IVF) and something that literally didn’t exist 12 months ago, so evidently hasn’t had the long trials that other things have. I find it hard to believe that you cannot understand why people would be reticent about having it even when they are fully vaccinated for everything else.

Hopefully your friend has better friends.

Garlia · 04/04/2021 08:16

Your ignorance about IVF is outstanding.

Again, if you feel so hateful towards your friend, why on earth have a relationship with her?

Laughingstock91 · 04/04/2021 08:16

It’s like there is moral outrage on here because I have mentioned one persons IVF as an example but zero moral outrage about thousands dying and someone refusing a vaccine to stop more dying. It’s totally bonkers!
