I've gone to M & S and Sainsbury's this afternoon, and there are no Easter eggs left . Literally none at all. Why??

OP posts:
Flowers24 · 03/04/2021 22:28

Tbh we get egg , wine , biscuits and sometimes flowers for our parents.

dividedwefall · 03/04/2021 22:29

God I couldn't be bothered with having to buy everybody Easter eggs. They are for kids! Or at least always were when I was growing up.

Benjispruce2 · 03/04/2021 22:32

Never heard of buying eggs for adults apart from partners maybe.

Tomasinabombadil · 03/04/2021 22:33

@Tomasinabombadil

Oh no! I’ve got a Tesco click & collect order for tomorrow evening and have put a couple of Easter eggs on it, I don’t often eat chocolate, just thought I’d treat myself as I’m on my own.☹️ Since first lockdown I have been doing an order every 2 weeks which would have been last w/e., but changed to 3 weeks this time.🙄 I’ll put a note asking the picker to make a substitution with a bar of fruit & nut chocolate.😂
Just thought I’d let you know, I picked up my Tesco click & collect order at 7:30pm today and Yippee I’ve got 1 large Lindt Lindor egg with truffles and 1 medium Cadbury egg with mini eggs and a ceramic mug. There’s enough chocolate to last me for the next 3 -4 months.🤣 They are substitutes but I don’t care. When I mentioned to the young lady at the collection point that I wasn’t expecting any at all because of reading all the comments here, she said that not all the click & collect orders for Easter eggs were fulfilled. I’m a happy Easter 🐇 now.🙂 Enjoy the rest of the Easter break everyone with or without your choccy eggs.🙂

I thought everyone bought eggs for family members? We buy parents, grandparents, aunties , uncles etc , it's not just for kids

pickaxer · 03/04/2021 22:34

I don't buy everybody. I have in past bought and sent for my 2 nieces and 1 nephews, but not this year, on rare occasion if seeing extended family Inhave got the little ones ( under 12's) eggs. I stopped due to our finances and them not sending anything for my kids Blush

My DC are both adults and I buy them an egg too.Grin It's no big deal and certainly not a headache. It's literally just shopping.

I only buy for one child at Easter and he got a book.

Benjispruce2 · 03/04/2021 22:35

Yes my dc are 17&20 and I buy for them, but different to parents though.

Easter eggs for adult family members sounds absolutely exhausting. I feel like so many of these new traditions, like this one, and pinterest-perfect Halloween decorations, and Elf on the Shelf, and Christmas Eve boxes are just new ways to pressure women, often working and barely holding up as it is, to stand up to an absolutely unachievable standard of parenthood (but really, of motherhood).

Bet that nobody can name one bloke who has bought an egg for multiple adults in his own family, let alone his wife's family.

If it was just for kids you wouldn't get the really nice posh eggs that would be wasted on them. Grin Or the enormous £42 Lindt Bunnies.
JesusIsAnyNameFree · 03/04/2021 22:37

Lol, did anyone mention this thread is mentioned in an article on The Guardian?

Flowers24 · 03/04/2021 22:37

We've always bought for family members for years , thought was normal!! I've bought about 10 eggs for various clos family members, i.e parents and others

JustLyra · 03/04/2021 22:38

Why do people always assume that because something isn’t something they’ve never done it must be a new tradition?

The 80 pound ostrich egg from hotel chocolat...

CricketClub · 03/04/2021 22:38

@ArcheryAnnie

But hey, you’ve got the money to plan and buy in advance (so have i), but fuck those who haven’t eh?

Eggs are very very cheap. If you can't afford £2 at some point between Boxing Day and Easter, then not having a chocolate egg is the least of your problems.

So true. They've been in shops for months. From 99p in ALDI.
Sparklingbrook · 03/04/2021 22:38

How can dropping a couple of Easter eggs for family in your shopping trolley be 'exhausting'? Confused Grin

JustLyra · 03/04/2021 22:38

*ever done. Not never

Benjispruce2 · 03/04/2021 22:39

Well whatever floats your boat. I don’t want chocolate looking at me so DH gets told every year not to buy me one.Grin

Ooooh not seen that one. Doesn't sound like something you'd buy for the children. Grin

It’s Mumsnet. Anyone over 16 isn’t meant to expect anything for their birthday, Christmas or any celebration event ever.
Flowers24 · 03/04/2021 22:39

It's hardly exhausting, I bought mine 2 wks back in one go on an early morning trip x

CricketClub · 03/04/2021 22:41

Unless you've got your eye on this that is! Shock

Bargain at 69 quid now! You'll be waiting 1-2 months though, apparently!

melj1213 · 03/04/2021 22:41

I have just got home from work in a supermarket, after closing at 10pm.

As I'm doing the "We're closing soon" announcements at 9.45pm, I had a woman in her late 40s/early 50s come over to customer services to ask where the Easter eggs were. When I told her we had been sold out since Wednesday she was incredulous and instead of accepting she had left it too late proceeded to ask if there was any chance I could just check "the back" to make sure. Reader, I did not check the back and the customer did not get her egg, instead she left muttering that it was ridiculous to have no eggs left at 15 minutes before closing on the Saturday of Easter Weekend Hmm

Flowers24 · 03/04/2021 22:41

Ouch!!
