Okay, not fond of a lot the man has to say. However, his sons, admittedly grown of course, are receiving death threats over Meghan.

It is angry language but she has plenty to be angry about. And she says it is not her job, or the job of any person of colour, to educate white people so you can do your own learning - we all can.

I'm not offended by what she says.

Nor am I because I can’t take anything written in such overwrought language seriously.

So what are you saying? That you refuse to be an ally to people of colour because one of them angrily (and correctly) accused huge swathes of people of racism?

FrippEnos · 29/03/2021 17:57

Isn't Sharon Osbourne the woman that made the joke about the sleeping man whose wife cut off his penis and put it in the trash disposal?

If so this has been a long time coming. But then they all found that funny.

I haven't read the whole thread and I don't think anyone should be receiving death threats, but Piers Morgan wouldn't have lost any sleep if MM or any other of his targets had received death threats as a result of his 'journalism'.

Alsohuman · 29/03/2021 18:08

I’m not saying that at all. If I wasn’t an ally, the piece you linked to would hardly persuade me. The torrid and insulting language helps nobody, least of all its writer.
justsaymaybe · 29/03/2021 18:32

@BuggerBognor I completely agree with you.

enigma16 · 29/03/2021 19:07

But Piers Morgan is OK to use "torrid and insulting language", all in the name of free speech?

Why is it that people like him are allowed to be as insulting as they like and people love and defend him, but people of colour are not allowed to get angry and always have to patiently and carefully explain themselves so they don't hurt white people's feelings. That is what the 'white women's tears' comment is about.

If you found that article too 'insulting', how about this book: www.amazon.co.uk/White-Tears-Brown-Scars-Feminism/dp/194822674X?tag=mumsnetforu03-21

So I think that we can conclude that nobody has a fucking clue what specifically SO said on 10 March that was racist.
It’s racist.
How?
**
Explain.
Shan’t.

More like:

Explain it to me.
Educate me.
No not that sort of education.

I don't like the source/words used.
I won't read it.

Stamps foot.
🤣🤣🤣

I did read it. That’s not education. It’s an overblown rant and completely defeats the object if its aim is to win anyone over. But that isn’t the aim of that piece, is it?

justsaymaybe · 29/03/2021 19:35

@MunaZaldrizoti

Is the son the far right dick who works for Turning Point?
I've no idea what Turning Point is, but even if he is a "far-right dick" does that mean he deserves death threats for his father's opinions?
enigma16 · 29/03/2021 19:41

I think it's sad that both of you BuggerBognor and Alsohuman feel so attacked by that piece. I don't. The piece is not attempting to 'win anyone over' (the fact that you think people have to be 'won over' in order not to be racist is really sad) but a cri de coeur from an exasperated woman after a lifetime of racism and its apologists. You could try getting over yourselves and just listening and trying to understand where she is coming from and perhaps you wouldn't feel so 'discriminated against'! Hmm

Unsure33 · 29/03/2021 19:42

No one should receive death threats for an opinion . There are laws for when comments go to far .

We should never become a vigilante society .

I agree with the footballer this morning . Everyone on social media should be capable of being identified and be taken to account if necessary . It would shut a lot of them up.

I agree with you. I think you will find that certain posters on here do not seem to keen on being anti-racist I am afraid.
Unsure33 · 29/03/2021 20:18

If I don’t like someone because of my experience of them and that person is a woman and old and not a man , does that “infer” sexism ? And ageism ? Am I indicating that by my words without realising ?

Unsure33 · 29/03/2021 20:20

Of course you absolutely be against racism but still comment that you don’t think PM was being racist . He just does not like MM.

gingganggooleywotsit · 29/03/2021 20:22

Sorry, but Piers lives by the sword, he dies by the sword.

gingganggooleywotsit · 29/03/2021 20:23

I’m sure he didn’t care about all the abuse and death threats Meghan has no doubt received due to his ‘stories’. In saying that, two wrongs do not make a right I suppose

I don’t feel “discriminated against”. And I have no interest in “getting over myself” because I’m unimpressed by a piece of prejudiced writing which, far from educating anyone simply insults them.

You suggested it as a means of understanding a black woman’s viewpoint of racism, ie “winning over” the reader. It doesn’t achieve that aim. I’ll stick to real writers like Maya Angelou, Alice Walker and Toni Morrison who have done an infinitely better job. It’s a shame we’ll never know what their take on it would have been.

DioneTheDiabolist · 29/03/2021 20:37

I found that article very educational, sharp, funny and well written. The author made her point extremely well.👏👏👏

But hers is not the only explanation. If you really want to be educated @Alsohuman and @BuggerBognor, there are loads of patient, easy to understand explainations on the net. Find one from someone you are willing to listen to.
