Okay, not fond of a lot the man has to say. However, his sons, admittedly grown of course, are receiving death threats over Meghan.

So educate me.

No. If you want to be educated a quick google should bring up enough commentary about Sharon Osborne and her racism.

Lollipop888 · 29/03/2021 13:30

@Pyewackect

Death threats for having an opinion that differs from yours is a form of fascism.
Exactly, was just about to post the same myself.

It’s scary the way this country is going that it is deemed ok to threaten, or cancel people who differ in opinion to others. And it’s disgusting to pick on innocent members of their family.

Debate and rational discussion seems to be a thing of the past....

Quite possibly. But on the specific occasion which provided the reason for her sacking she wasn’t racist. Why wasn’t she fired in 2018 when she was most definitely racist?

The thing about free speech though is that it's used by people like Piers Morgan as a licence to abuse, belittle and bully. That's not opinion, it's just personal insult. I've lost count of the times, and the manner in which, he's essentially called MM a liar. It comes across as a personal vendetta. Look at his twitter feed. It's littered with successive diatribes against one woman. To listen to the way he bangs on and on about her, she's basically Satan. Weird.

Well.... Katie Hopkins thinks migrants are 'cockroaches' and gun boats should be fired at them.
That's an opinion. That differs from mine.
Is that OK?

Call it facism, cancel culture, whatever you like but there is a line that shouldn't be crossed.
PM crossed that line like it or not.

Roussette · 29/03/2021 13:39

p.s. Of course, death threats are very very wrong.

enigma16 · 29/03/2021 13:42

No, of course they shouldn't be getting death threats, and those who send them are very wrong to do that.

But that doesn't mean people are not allowed to express anger and criticism of PM about his abhorrent and bullying behaviour, including the disparaging and disrespectful comments he made about Alex Beresford over the weekend. I don't follow his sons' social media but some posters here have said that they publicly post similar stuff too. If that's the case then I think people are perfectly entitled to challenge them publicly. Not death threats, obvs, but disagreeing with what they are saying.

There will be many in society who share that view. Cancelling out people in the media who vocalise those views does not make those people in society go away, it breeds resentment and intensifies those views.

Allowing people to air their opinions, however abhorrent (unless illegal), allows for healthy debate and greater understanding on both sides as to why those views are held. Hopefully we all learn to live together more peacefully.

Boris Johnson gets criticised for what his father does, so it's no surprise Piers Morgan's family get death threats for what he says.

While being blamed for your relatives' actions is not fair, there is a BIG difference between criticism and death threats!

DeeCeeCherry · 29/03/2021 14:09

MM received death threats too, didn't she...?

But PM is a White man so his voice will be heard the loudest in his relentless determination to bring down a woman for the crime of ghosting him years ago.

PM is a sexist, hate inciting, obsessive misogynist in plain sight. Yet widely supported by women who would claim to support a woman's right to say NO to a man's attentions, and to support women's safety - but clearly, only as long as it's the right type of woman in their eyes. If it's not then she deserves it.

PM's sons tweeted in defence of Sharon Osbourne. Twitter is troll land, didn't see any death threats but I'd be surprised if there weren't loads of people who've received death threats on there.

Sharon Osbourne is both racist and homophobic. She's a controversial figure

PM has accused Black Women of being racist. Yet deem him racist against MM, against Black Women, and there's a rush to say 'No he isnt'. That trigger of White male privilege being ever right.

'I received death threats' is set to be the latest 'go-to' to shut down discussion of offensiveness towards non-White, non-heterosexual, non-Christian etc, and put the entitled bigot in the right.

As ever in this case, entitled patriarchy underpinned by women as it always has been, will trump all.

I'm sure google could help you out wrt Whitewashing and racism.

TheGlassBlowersDaughter · 29/03/2021 14:22

Well this thread illustrates everything that is wrong with the 'fans/squad'. They only pretend to care about threats. Luckily the legal system does seem to be catching up with those who make online and RL threats, and those who bully.
There was a fascinating article in The Times or The Guardian last year about how the government is monitoring all these different factions who try to dominate online discourse and try to justify bullying, doxing and death threats. It made me feel quite hopeful that they won't be allowed to continue unabated.

Alsohuman · 29/03/2021 14:23

I’m sure you could explain what you mean. That would be extremely helpful.
DioneTheDiabolist · 29/03/2021 14:25

I could @Alsohuman, but I don't see how that would be at all helpful to me.

Fine. I’ll just ignore you then. You’re clearly not interested in any meaningful engagement.
