Live in a beautiful seaside town in the SW.

Yesterday, in the 5 minutes of getting out of my car I saw the second home owners from Oxford in their holiday home opposite our house had arrived and a whole family get out of their car with their suitcases arrive at their gran's house two doors down.

Just...bloody...WAIT!!!

@MiddleParking

If following the rules is now considered arrogant then yup - that's me!

Follow them all you like, no one cares. Trying to police other people’s adherence to them (when you don’t even know what they are) is what’s arrogant.

Not sure how I've policed anyone - just said to wait.

It’s lovely to hear that people are on the move and enjoying life again. I can’t see how visitors to your lovely seaside town will have any impact on you. You seem to be determined to stay at home yourself, so won’t come into contact with visitors.

And who gives you the power to tell people to wait? Have you not registered they might actually NOT be breaking any rules?

ihatethecold · 27/03/2021 08:06

I’d love to have a second home. 😎

OP, you need to get back to normal life. It's been a year...

@Blueeyedgirl21

I’d rather stick pins in my eyes than go to the SW after reading posts on here, honestly makes it sound like a place full of snobs and insular are you local types, the scenery isn’t even that good, we will be visiting family in the highlands this summer - better than being packed in being judged paying £5 for an ice cream in Devon
I wouldn't put any weight on the SWers posting on here. I live in a beautiful rural-coastal part of the SW and I don't know anyone who has this attitude... oh actually one work colleague but she's also grumpy about every aspect of life!

No need to start criticising the place though. There's places I can't stand but I can see how people find them scenic/beautiful.

No - I'll be at work, with children whose parents work in the shops and cafes etc in the area.

With no vaccine...

It has started...the moaning and jumping to conclusion behaviours of people living in "beautiful seaside towns".

It has most definitely started Grin

Livelovebehappy · 27/03/2021 08:07

The reality is that a lot of people who live in ‘beautiful seaside towns’ saw how great it is without those horrible tourists coming, and are now dreading things going back to normal. Get a grip. You don’t own those seaside towns. You own a very very small part of it if you have a home you own outright. Otherwise you own absolutely nothing. If you don’t like tourists, don’t live in a beautiful seaside town. Move elsewhere.

oohmamama · 27/03/2021 08:07

@flamingflamingos

Oh fuck off OP. I legally own my second home in a "beautiful seaside village" and if I want to go there, I will go there.

People like you are the reason there is no community spirit left with your greedy selfish "my town" mentality.

When you say 'go there', I presume when you're allowed. Which is fine. No issue with second home owners here at all.

Ah a key worker too Hmm
God it's like a game of Mumsnet goady bingo
I actually visited the southwest last summer
It was very pleasant
Mercifully met no one like the OP
and mate you should try Cardiff
Cracking city
Oh but you can't
Because our rules say you can't come here currently
Rules are rules

Graciebobcat · 27/03/2021 08:08

Why are people bothering going anywhere at Easter? All that has changed is people can meet up to six others outside and open air sport is allowed. Big deal. Nothing else is open, what's the point?

Blueeyedgirl21 · 27/03/2021 08:08

@oohmamama oh I’m sure you won’t, I’ve not got enough money to spend probably either! But do remind yourself where you live actually isn’t that special. There’s a reason people only visit for a week or two.

Not at all - I love summer here!

It totally comes alive! it's a lovely contrast to what can be long wet winters!

millenialblush · 27/03/2021 08:09

@Blueeyedgirl21 yes I agree. I felt scared going to our families Cornish home last year when we were allowed after reading the anti-tourist posts on here. Luckily the SW economy doesnt need tourists though...

OP one day you will look back and cringe at attacking people for breaking 'the roolz' in order to see their family, when the risk is so low and the government are seemingly taking the piss out of us.

Pretty much is, plenty of nicer places in the UK to spend your money.
Silvercatowner · 27/03/2021 08:09

Such drama. Honestly OP you aren't in a Hollywood blockbuster.

Very special to me - I hope you love where you live as much as I do.

When you haven’t had anyone local to meet with in a pair over the winter, the rule of 6 is now allowing you to go and see family/friends. That’s why people are doing. Not everyone lives with a partner or children, not everyone has friends locally. MN needs to understand that.
PandaFluff · 27/03/2021 08:10

If gran is on her own then it might be a support bubble?

Blueeyedgirl21 · 27/03/2021 08:10

I work with kids who’s parents work in shops and cafes too.... oh and major hospitals, who treat people like you who’s local ones are shit, and universities, who educate people like you because there aren’t any where you live.... so it works both ways

User133847 · 27/03/2021 08:10

The rules were specifically kept until the 12th to stop people taking the piss at Easter. Alas, some people are too special to follow the rules.

flamingflamingos · 27/03/2021 08:10

@oohmamama I'm allowed whenever I like, I own it, there is no legal definition of "second home" in UK law, I've "stayed home" in whichever home I wanted to.

Do you honestly want to live in a world where the government can legally dictate to you that you cannot enter your own property? Get a grip will you.
